Gaff is an uber professional. Completely different outlook on life to someone like Judd who was always 'happy' to go wherever but still very cagey about moving.

Unless of course the fine thang he's tapping decides she prefers the social scene in melbourne... you know, important stuff!

If he's an 18 year old AFL footballer who wants to lock himself up with just one chick in his early years - I don't want him at the club!! :D

what makes you think he was talking about "go home" factor?
I didn't say it was.

However Worsfold stated that where someone is from isn't a factor with early picks, but it can be with later ones. Go Home factor is certainly 1 part of that.

given that there are 700+ players in AFL and most of those play away from home, what stat suggests go home factor is in anyones thinking? most of the ones leaving are fringe players anyway looking for more play time.

with what worsfold said its more to do with length of development time generally required with later picks.

How does being local or interstate affect that?

I am a little concerned that we will target WA players with our 2nd and 3rd picks this year over interstate options.

Who will be available at these picks?

Cripps (possibly)
Conca (possibly)

But do we need more utilities or half backs?

Andreoli
Newton

Do we want to draft more 2nd tier outside wingers?

Chalwell
Hamp
Litherland

Are these guys seriously better than what will be available from interstate?

To clarify, the club didn't say they'd be targeting WA players, more that it was potentially a factor that they sometimes consider with late picks. The comment was in context of the early pick, whereby Woosh said where they came from was not a factor at all.

They said earlier in the year they were boosting their interstate recruiting power. So they are watching the vics very carefully

emma quayle tweeted today that richmond are considering reece conca @ pick 6.

if they are willing to overlook one of gaff, polec and heppell for conca, maybe we might also given our preference towards drafting local?

Would be very surprised, and appalled. Not of the opinion that Conca is anywhere near #4 value.

Report in the West,
"The Eagles will have picks 4, 26 and 29 while their remaining picks will be used to recruit Jacob Brennan under the father-son rule and promote rookies Callum Wilson, Andrew Strijk and Ashton Hams."
That should read Stevenson not Hams right?

Sounds like a jurno struggling to make a dealine with anything to write about.

Don't think the people at Twitter impose deadlines.

Indeed!

I wouldn't have thought there would be a footy journo with more respect than Emma Quayle.

Recruiting isn't an exact science - so not every one is on the money - but she doesn't write a lot of articles - but when she does they are generally well worth reading.

IMO - she is the best journo going around.

Correct, Stevenson is on the main list with Hams still on the rookie list

I too am concerned that WC will continue to wait till their 2nd or 3rd pick before looking at drafting an OM. I don't want anymore Rosa and Houlihan quality OM's. Therefore, I'd like them to select Polec/Gaff at pick 4 to get quality in this area. The 2 other selections I'd be happy to see used on a KPB and KPF, unless Lycett is available at one of those picks. Not that it's expected.

KPP depth is something that has to be drafted for sooner rather than later, now that Spangher, Wilkes and Notte have been de-listed. Glass' time is just about up too. With KPP development taking longer than most other types, WC should invest in a couple in this draft, unless the talls in this draft aren't up to scratch.

If WC draft positionally wise as mentioned here, I'd like to see another OM selected with our 1st pick next year too.

*An open question for debate: Will Menagola do a Weedon come draft day and go a fair bit earlier than what most expect at present?

Ive seen a lot of colts games and really rate the WA boys, i believe we are better taking local boys. to me there is not much between them, and the go home factor i think is big. Two guys who would have been excellent state players ( both desperatly unlucky not to play) who will develop into very good AFL players are Chalwell and Menegola. Both tested brilliantly, made colts team of the year and dominated the colts GF. Chalwell KB and Menegola KF.

I'm sorry but why would we want Conca at all? Another inside grunt with average speed and footskills but with hardness? Sounds just like Selwood Snr.

We need to be drafting quality in the areas we lack, not supplementing what we already have plenty of with half decent players.

For those who haven't read that Daffy thing here are the West Coast related parts:

Q. Brisbane are consistly linked with heppell, but his a defender wouldn't Brisbane be better suited to Gaff, Polec ,or Atley,

A. Heppell burned in the second half of the TAC Cup season after being moved into the midfield. I expect the Eagles to draft Gaff at 4 and the Lions to draft Heppell at 5 as a midfielder. He's fantastic when he's got the ball in his hands, which is often.

Q. hey Paul Im seeing alot of talent on David Kruse and I rekon he would be a steal for WCE with their secound round pick what do you rekon the chances are?

A. You're right that David Kruse is a talented player. He lollops around the backline like Darryl White. I think his lack of intensity will push him down the list. West Coast won't take him with a second-round pick (26 and 28). They need to build a bank of midfielders who can kick.

Reckons Darling to go at pick 24 as well!
