Possibly a tall defender will be be considered too with pick 26 or 28 (Monaco/Litherland) given Wilkes and Spangher will both be removed from our list and the curtains are closing on Glass' career.

Go for Litherland if thats the case, he has awesome closing speed and one of the best spoilers in the colts this year. It was obvious to see if you watched the games, he commanded the Claremont defence. Pretty sure he got in the top 10 for 20m sprint. Not bad for a bloke his height.

If Blayne Wilson was available though, you wouldnt go past him. I don't rate Monaco, but I hope he proves me wrong.

Any picks used outside the top 40 are almost purely speculative. I personally think 3-4 of the end of first round compensatory picks will be used this year which pushes our third pick out to 31-32 and what would have been our prospective 4th pick out to 48-49. This doesn't include the 17 year olds that have been taken out and a couple of the prelisted players that may have been taken to that point (1-2).

So although the reality is we arent in a great position list management wise we aren't losing out on too much and we couldnt have done very much more during trade week. If through delistings and retirements we are able to take 3 live draft picks, brennan as a FS, Keep stevenson and maybe make another psd pick to go with our new rookies we will still have a lot of list turnover.

Some, and I agree with this POV, regard this draft as a very deep one (notably Royal Eagle). For example, Alex Fasolo (EF) looks a good player to me who may be selected in the 30's or even 40's, or Litherland who the poster above mentioned and there are numerous others just from WA. If we had more picks we could have got players like Fasolo who I think will be better than a number of the current players on the list, but because we have so few picks we will have to pass. I don't believe Adelaide's draft position is a conclusive statement about the draft as a whole. They've traded players in for positions where they saw they had a need. Adelaide's strategy may be one of a coach trying to save his immediate future. This year's draft even though it is severely compromised seemed like a good chance to change and strengthen the list going forward, and limiting ourselves to 4 or 5 changes (includes Brennan) is missing the opportunity to my mind.

They only really have two draft picks. They traded them all in. Its a decent draft even with a fair bit of talent taken out already

Gaff is probably my favourite for pick 4 atm but i dont expect him to be a very damaging player

I doubt we (or any of the clubs for that matter) would rate Gaff so highly if they didn't think he could be damaging through his skills and decision making.

Not very damaging. Some players just aren't that damaging and are more accumulator types. Doesnt mean they cant be guns.

With Gaffs co-ordination, good kicking and understanding of angles in side steps and running, with abit of muscle can become the left foot Shuey.

His running is a little Shuey like from the Shuey AFL draft videos.
Shuey with more muscle now is hard to catch.

Not very similar to shuey. Shuey is elite on both sides. Gaff is a very good left footer. Doesn't kick as far as shuey. Pace is similar but isnt as agile or hard to tackle as the shue. A lot less inside than shuey as-well. Has a bigger tank though.

Elite skills and decision making in traffic = damaging player. Gaff definitely has the potential to be that damaging. Don't be fooled just because a bloke isn't breaking DC records etc.

Gaff tested very well in the speed and endurance tests. Ran a 2.88 second 20m sprint and ran 15.3 beep test and ran a 10 minute flat 3km time trail. In the end that put an end to the doubts about his potential improvement.

As far as Gaff being damaging goes. His smarts, disposal and obvious speed means he will always use the ball well. Just don't expect him to burst away from packs or find him cutting up teams forward of centre all the time.

Pace, agility and long accurate kicking are the most important characteristics to be a damaging AFL player. These arent Gaffs strongest areas. Fitness and a footy brain would be his best assets. He could still be damaging at times but he's no rioli, no hill, no judd in this regard.

You're right, we should go for Judd or Hill at pick 4.

As long as you're not overly slow you can still be an extremely damaging AFL player. Gaff has adequate pace, albeit an average cruising speed, and from what I've seen is an excellent kick.

Sidebottom doesn't have breakaway speed, he does kick crap loads of goals and is a freakish finisher.

Would be happy with Heppell too. I don't think the Goddard comparisons are fully accurate, I think ideally as a midfielder he could be a lot like Mundy. And I'm not just saying that cause of the hair.
