Cant see skinny Tony Notte on that list ...wonder what he is up to

Todays west said that Notte decided against the draft to focus on his football in the WAFL. Not sure if that was such a good move.

Worth a spot on the rookie list.

Someone might have picked him up and it most likely would have been a Melbourne team. But the thing is he's not going to be playing in the AFL anytime soon so he might as well stay home in the WAFL than move all the way over just to play VFL reserves.

Unless he re-did his contract we would have been required to pay out the full contract.

You sure about that?

Am fairly sure that if he gets recruited elsewhere - we only have to pay the balance of the outstanding contract.

Hence if we take him - we just have to pay the contract.

It's possible (i don't know) that his employment contract can survive the delistment - i.e he can still be an employee of the eagles without being on a list.

It's only how the AFL treat it for salary cap purposes that matter.

And the fact that he hasn't nominated for the ND - suggests he doesn't want to go elsewhere.

Id go for Newton then. Is strong overhead, accurate infront of goals, as dynamic as Cripps but proven he's a quality mid/ forward at colts level. Excellent left foot kick and one player i would be happy to pickup with our third pick.
Would you really say he's as dynamic as Cripps? Cripps plays like more of a 'small' for mine, quick and ferocious at ground level and keeps his feet very well.

Anton Hamp. What are people's thoughts on him?

On a totally unrelated matter, it is staggering how many draftees have likened themselves to Andrew Mackie...

The West 13/11/2010

"Darling's prospects soared after he earned All-Australian selection as a bottom-age player during last year's under-18 national titles, but he has since slid down the pecking order.

At 190cm, doubts have been raised about his ability to hold down a key position at AFL level.

Off the field, an attack in Subiaco in September that left Darling in hospital with a fractured skull, which followed his suspension from a Perth private school late last year after a drunken incident on a Kalbarri camp, have marred his image.

It is now predicted he could be taken from picks 15 to 20 or as late as a second-round selection following a season with the Falcons in which his form tapered."

Let's hope he slides to 26, what a draft that would be.

Sheehan's 30 prospects - in alphabetical, not predicted order - are as follows:

Shaun Atley
Harley Bennell
Josh Caddy
Reece Conca
Lucas Cook
Jamie Cripps
Jack Darling
Sam Day
Andrew Gaff
Josh Green
Daniel Gorringe
Mitch Hallahan
Kieran Harper
Dyson Heppell
George Horlin-Smith
Ben Jacobs
Jed Lamb
Scott Lycett
Tom Lynch
Luke Parker
Jayden Pitt
Jared Polec
Dion Prestia
Billie Smedts
Brodie Smith
David Swallow
Seb Tape
Mitch Wallis
Matthew Watson
Aaron Young

A lot of good talent in there.

Ive heard the Eagles are interested in the 2 East Fremantle Colts boys Menegola and Chalwell. Pic 29 is the last pic. Is this to early for these players or would they look at them for a Rookie spot?

I would think that 29 is too early ( especialy for Menagola ) but here is the thing the chance of either of them being available for rookie selection is slim.

However having said that its our last pick so we may do as we did last year and take a player we want regardless of what the pick number is. We selected Golden Showers last year as he was a designated needs based selection rather than best available. So the selection of Chalwell at 29 if Mitchell is gone would not surprise me.

Selection 26 is the interesting one do we get a slider for example Cook or Darling if so then I would expect pick 29 to be a Newton,Fasolo, Cripps, Andreoli or even a Luke Parker selection.

I am expecting we take two mids and one KPP with our three picks. This expectation is based on nothing more than a gut feeling.

Those WA boys sound great. They dont want to go home after 2 years. I saw this thread on Chalwell. He seems to look the goods.

Do you really think Weedon was that much of a needs pick rather than best available?

From what I've heard he was unlikely to get past pick 30.

I was proud of coming up with the nickname "Piston", but I have been clearly bettered here.

Dare anyone ask how he got the name Golden Showers?:o

Edit: Are you talking about Weedon or Stevens?

Stevens was taken with our last ND pick last year, we used our 2nd ND pick on Weedon ............. which I can understand the GS nickname??????

He would've been referring to Weedon.

You're right that if he gets recruited elsewhere we only have to pay the balance of the contract - but I'm not sure that the same applies if we rookie him.

Usually if you terminated an employee's contract then gave him another job you'd only have to pay the difference, but the AFLPA collective agreement seems to provide that in the case of AFL players that only happens if another club takes them on.

My guess is that Houlihan will have agreed to terminate his contract on the understanding they'll give him a new (rookie) one. Obviously Hansen wouldn't have agreed to something similar.

I have a very strong feeling either Tyler Chalwell or Anton Hamp will join WC at pick 29. But would be shocked if Menegola was picked up. He's only 189cm so will struggle as a KPP, and interestingly enough on his 'meet the players' draft profile on the AFL site, in his own words, when asked what player he was similiar to he answered Lenny Hayes.

Hamp has the exact same build as Swift.

If you're one of those worried about Darling being undersized, you definitely won't wont him.

they won`t be there for a rookie pick so it will depend on how much we rate them and i would not be surprised to see us grab menagola of the two boys this early,it will be a case of use it or lose it.

Yes I do .

I remember hearing about three weeks out from the draft that WC were going to take Weedon and I must say that the news surprised me as I did not rate him at the 22/23 mark. My dissapointment of selecting Weedon come draft day was negated by the fact I was over the moon that Koby Stevens had landed at the Eagles. And yes I felt Weedon was at best a 30+ draft selection. I was told that Collingwood had looked at him @ 30 but that was before Ball became available.. the rest is history.

As a Claremont supporter I had seen both him and Colyer play and I rated Colyer much, much higher. We needed an injection of raw pace and I still believe that Colyer would have been a very good pick up. I also watched Weedon play at the championship and was not that impressed. I still think that both Colyer and Mitch Duncan would have been a better selection @ 22.

That aside he is an Eagle now and I want Weedon to be a success and make it .. but thus far I still have my doubts. I hope I am wrong and I will be the first to put my hand up and admit that I was wrong... in fact I would be wraped if I had to do that as it would mean that the selection had been vindicated.

I also rated Black , Carlisle, Duncan, Bartlett and Crichton as being much better players than Weedon.

I can assure you that I am not just saying so with the benefit of hindsight as swannies and I had some long conversations on the matter.

We were both dissapointed that Black and Duncan slipped through our clutches.

bit early to pass judgement as most of the players you mention have done nothing yet to say they are a better choice just your opinion which has very little bearing on who the club rates and selects.

Was asked the question and I answered it.

Sure its only my opinion. We agree on that.:thumbsu:

You dont have to support my views ..... but that what forums like this are for........ to share opinions.

The fact that you dont agree with me is neither here nor there.

Well yes we agree again..... that my opinion has little bearing on who the club rates and selects.... thats stating the obvious .. but thank you for drawing it to my attention.

time will tell I suppose whether the club got it right or wrong ,like Notte who was given 4 yrs on the list or McKinely who took 3 yrs to make his senior debut, these guys where taken with picks in the 20`s.
