With much speculation on what the club should do at the end of the year I must admit I was surprised how many young blokes we have on the list.

8 - under 20
8 - 21 year olds
7 - 22 year olds
1 - 23 year old
3 - 24 year olds
1 - 25 year olds
5 - 26 year olds
1 - 29 year old (Tivendale)
4 - 30 year olds (Johnson, Bowden, Brown, Simmonds)
1 - 33 year old (Richo)

10 - Midfielders
12 - Midfielder/Flankers
3 - Small forwards
8 - Key Forward/Key Defenders
4 - Defenders
3 - Ruckman

Do we draft more young players or look at trading some 2nd and 3rd round picks for some GOOD players?

IMO we don't need anymore 185cm to 195cm 18 year olds.

We just need to hit targets and make the right decisions.

We should probably concentrate more on the Coaching department than players?

Thoughts???

it all depends on what players they are looking at trading for ..

1. our first pick in the draft should NOT be traded under any circumstance
2. the 18-23 age group in 4 years time is going to when they are in their prime, so we should be adding to it with the best kids possible

How about forgetting trading for an established star without trading our first pick. One win and the ferals think we are close ffs.

what the hell are u on about ??? no one said trade off our first pick .. no one said we are close ... your putting words in our mouth

dont trade any picks.

trade fringe players for picks

draft 2 kpf 1 ruck 2 mids

psd./rookie draft.. 1 ruck 1small defender 1mid

keep collard

WE DONT NEED OTHER CLUBS HACKS

IMO WCE will take anything at the moment. Kerr is just baggage to them.

Lets have a crack at him for our second and third round picks, he may just be the inspiration our young fellas need to kick on with:thumbsu:

Those players mentioned need 1st rounders to go. You only trade out of the 1st round if you are close. Go figure.

no one said trade our first rounders .. i said WE SHOULDNT trade them

Why do people seem to think we need to either keep and use every pick, or trade every single pick we have? How about we trade if we get a good deal, and we don't trade if we don't get a good deal?

Very true on the other club hacks call. will spew if we trade for players. drafting kpf 1 ruck and 2 mids means 5 delistings! So far i would have tivendale, hyde, pettifer, and casserly(unlucky with injuries) - who else.

Personally i think best available, best available, best available, best available.

We have a good spread of youngsters. I agree with the previous poster: BEST AVAILABLE!!!! .....and NO trading of picks for established players. But, if we can trade up a pick by off-loading say a King well so be it.

Tall forwards and rucks are still a glaring problem. Morton is not a FF like he was forced to play as one today and Cartledge 5 hit outs!

All well and good to recruit 5 more young'uns but which of our allready untried youngsters will be pushed aside for the newbies or will the newbies brcome the new untried?

I say do what is required(except our no1 pick) to get a gun midfielder to lead our current young blokes.

Those players deemed not up to it are moved on and a new batch brought in. It is called list management.

Coughlan seems to fit that bill. 26, hard inside midfielder.

Not interested in landing a big name. I think our list is coming through quite nicely at the moment. Just imagine if we keep drafting with the picks we have from now on how strong our core will be in 5 or so years.

Thats exciting.

tivendale
hyde
pettifer
casserly (as you said unlucky but 3 years & always injured doesnt look gd)
johnson ..should retire the club is more important than him
coggs ( i love the guy but dont think he will come back)
king just too short for the only role we have for him - small defend
howat,,,,,,,, i know rookie list but must go
silvester,,,,,,see howat

i feel the above named players wont be at richmond in 2010
thats 9 players.
perhaps we could keep coggs for 1 more year and see
and recruit casserly on to the rookie list

We should try and get Biglands, Lade and Fletcher from WCE

Seriously, Adam Thomson from Port would be great.

We definately need Coughlan in there to help out Tuck.

Definately keep Cogs, was absolutely gunning it til injuries set in.
I'd dangle Shultz, Pettifer and Polo out over the trade waters to see if we get any bites (although if i was another club, i dont know whether id bother)
I can't see Howat, Tivers or Hyde getting a regular game in 2009 and beyond
I guess King is the other concern. ever since that little bit of media at the start of the year, he's struggled. Love him, but im not too sure if there's an exact spot for him in the backline with newman, mcmahon & raines the main ball carriers. (might be worth trying him as an on-baller?)
I think we should go for kerr, he's still only young and hopefully what hutchy says is true and he wants to come to melb, definately don't give up any draft picks!! (having said that, he's one of the players in the AFL i'd seriously consider giving one away for....)
I think gus graham needs more game time. I like Patterson's endeavour, but he just lacks a bit of polish, and simmonds isnt getting any younger....

I do like the direction we're heading in, think it might be another 12-18 months before we can start thinking genuinely about top 4-6 chances...
