Jack Trengove is a highly touted SA midfielder. He is considered an inside midfielder and had a great U18 carnival, but the doubt over his loyalty remains because of his homestate (a la Scott Thompson).

Butcher on the other hand is Victorian, and is a 196cm KP forward. His carnival wasn't great, but he has a lot of promise and a Watts/Butcher combo looks like the next Riewoldt/Koschitzke. Apparently very arrogant, but can he back it up?

Obivously Scully is Pick 1, who out of the above is Pick 2 or 3? (Freo may pick Morabito if they get Pick 2.)

Who's doubt ? Yours ?

Also, not that it's widely known, but Scott Thompson left because of Daniher.

Anyway, it's Trengove or Morabito for me. Probably Trengove, but Morabito will be a star - despite the exagerated comments regarding his kicking. Most are good, it's just the odd floater, but he more than makes up for it.

If we beat Freo as our percentage is greater does this mean we will jump above them and lose the number 1 pick?

Depends if we win another game after that and therefore above the priority pick threshold.

If we beat the Dockers, finish 15th but on only 4 wins = picks 1 (priority) and 3.

If we finish 15th on 5 wins = pick 2 only

If we finish bottom on four wins = picks 1 and 2.

On paper winning 5 games looks so bad.

I think The best option for Melbourne would be the taking Scully and Butcher. I know that they have Jack Watts from last year but adding Butcher will do one of two things.

1st. Worst case scenario. He will be "insurance" in case he or Watts don't work out. In the event that Melbourne selects two mid fielders they will be putting all their eggs in one basket with Watts.

2nd. Best case scenario. They both will work out and Melbourne will have one of the best forward lines in the comp with a Roughead/ Franklin type scenario.

Good midfielders are a dime a dozen. But it is extremely hard to find top quality KPP. Though if Melbourne did go for two mids then they should also be very happy with the Scully/Trengove option.

It is looking like Freo is likely to win against Port at the moment, so you guys are going to finish 16th with pick 1 & 2. Congatulations.:thumbsu:

We really do get some w***ers on this board.

Isn't Trengrove reasonably tall?

That is the question. Can someone please enlighten us.

After Scully, if we are punting pick 2 on another mid then we need one with decent height as a midfield marking option. This is one area where we get killed and afaik both Blease and Scully are reasonably short, McLean and Jones don't play very tall either. Someone close to 190 cm would be damn handy running the corridore. If Trengove is another dwarf then I am in the Butcher camp (I think).

PS early draft talk shits me but our picks are virtually locked in so I guess it doesn't matter now. Who looks good around pick 18 lol.

I was under the impression that Trengrove was about 190 cm.
Then that is definitely a selling point for a midfield bereft of quality talls.:thumbsu: Grimes will be a good marking target in the guts for us at some stage but he'll need help.

Just imagine a forward line of:

HF: Bate Watts Petterd
FF: Aussie Butcher Jurrah

..with a few others bobbying in and out it would be rather potent.
But then again you do need players to kick the ball rather than turn it over..If we do not get Butcher we need atleast another KPF as Miller and Newton are not up to it. Or is that what Bailey is doing with Martin?

Morton is bloody tall for a mid, 192 cm. Can't wait for him to fill out and have more confidence putting his body on the line.
Yep but I suspect that he will do his most dangerous work on the wing. We need corridore runners who can take grabs as well. Also Morton is not the fastest runner and that makes you a sitting duck in the corridore where you have tacklers on both sides. Don't let me fool you though into thinking I have any idea about the draft prospects because I have nfi. Pick 18 could still grab us someone decent though so I am pretty sure we will cover a lot of bases no matter who we get at pick 2.

Trengove is a complete clone of Bartel if you ask me. Tough, skilled, and surprisingly strong overhead. Lacks a bit of pace but makes up for it in other areas. Watching the carnival Jimmy B is the player who I draw the best comparison to. Both Scully and Trengove have enormous capacity to be leaders and are apparently two of the best trainers ever seen for their age. I am so excited at the prospect of the two of them donning the red and blue for many years to come.

I sense my Butcher push is losing momentum.
His carnival had shades of Juice Newton, which didn't help his cause. The recruiters get paid to make tough decisions and if they go for him I'd support them, but picking the best U18 midfielder from Victoria and one of SA/WA will excite me as well.

Scully to wear number 9
Trengove to wear number 13
Scully must be a near certainty to wear 9. Although there must be some chance that any of 1,3,7,11,23 and 31 could be open. Trengove's too boring to wear 13, recruit someone else or give it to someone with some flair. Maybe the Walpiri Wizard can have an upgrade.
