Re: draft pick

I am a Melbourne supporter & it is going to be many years before we are ready to challenge for finals and then hopefully a premiership.
Bailey said that he wouldn't give up our first three draft picks that we have but I'm sure he would be open to the idea of trading picks 17 & 19 or one of them along with a player to boost ourselves higher into the first round.

My initial thoughts were to use teams (Bris, Nth, Adel). Now that that the Swans season has also finished you will have either pick 11 or 12.

For example:
We trade pick 17 & Green or Bruce to either Brisbane, North, Adel or Swans.

in return

We gain pick 7(Bris), 9 (North) 10 (Adel) 11 or 12 (Swans) along with a third round selection being 41(Bris), 43 (North) 44 (Adel) 45 or 46 (Swans).

We get an earlier 1st round pick along with a mid range 3rd round pick, to go with our priority of getting young talent

You gain a late 1st round pick, a very good versatile established player in your quest for premiership glory who has at least 3 - 4 years left in them.

Any thoughts??

no thank you

No we don't desperately need a so-so tall forward who is not really the focal point of a forward line. Hansen is a lead-up half forward. We already have a much better version in O'Keefe. What we desperately need is someone who can become a crash and bash half forward or a lead from the goal square, mark, kick forward in two years time.

Re: draft pick

KKPs that seem likely to be in our range of 1st pick according to phantom that are being posted, that id be quite happy with in no particular order.

Shaun Mckernan- 196cm 95kg, Big guy, rucks well, good on a lead kicks goals.
Jackson Trengove- 196cm 77kg, Loves taking a speckie, good height and pace. Injury concerns
Jordan Lisle- 196cm 87kg, defender uses ball well.

Midfielders/wingers/medium.
Mitch Robinson- 188cm, has good pace, good at ground level, gets alot of the ball.
Sam Blease- 183cm 72kg, Quite quick, line breaker, good skills
Steele Sidebottom.- 182cm 79kg, Hard at the ball, good tackler, uses the ball well.

Check out this link for some footage of draftee players.

I think Shaun Mckernan fits the roll out of any of the realistic 1st round picks we could pick up.
Big boy is not the quickest going around but will be a good target and create a contest.

Hm, unless he is incredibly talented and a huge scope for building his body, I think I would rather stay away from undersized KPPs!

I tend to agree but we also have to remember that Tony Lockett was reasonably thin when he first started aswell. Just because this guy is thin at 17 doesnt mean he wont put alot of weight in afew years time.

For a 196cm KP Forward you would hope that he would weigh close to 100kg. Best bet would be too look at how much his parents weigh.

Nothing a good diet and lots of weights cant fix..
Looks very lively. Won 2007 B&F for his club.

Re: draft pick

I posted this on another thread but what we need to get with our first draft pick is

- Key Position Forward
- Between 191cm and 197cm
- Have a potential weight of between 90kg and 105kg
- Strong Mark
- Good Kick

A young Tony Lockett would be nice but if we can find a player in the draft who can fit my criteria then i will be very happy.

I guess I kind of meant our club LOVES project players, which take time to develop (ie. We don't have a lot of time). We need a player that is ready to go by Round One 2010.

Yeah that would be nice for a change.
Corneluis would be another thats nearly ready made. (physically)

Re: draft pick

I suspect those of you holding out for a KPP in round 1 may need to steel yourselves for disappointment. I reckon the club is far more likely to take another mid with its first pick. Not only has Roos frequently expressed reservations about using high picks for tall players, he's come out since the end of the season and highlighted that he sees getting more speed and class into the midfield as a priority over forward line talent.

Have you seen Cornelius? Kid is a rake!

I would still be happy drafting him but he probably isn't even as filled out as J Westhoff yet so can't see him doing too much damage too early.

Needs to work on his kicking also, missed 3 or 4 gettables in his grand final on the weekend including a couple of real shanks out on the full.

Having said that, best and cleanest hands I have seen in a long time.

A Tassie boy a rake? Thought they bread them big down there.:D
Havent seen him in person, just some footage. Going off draftee listings i think he was around 85/89 kgs..
Surely hed be ready to go by Rd 1 2010.
Glad to hear you would be happy with him if he was picked up.
Wasnt he the go to FWD in the Tas U18?

He certainly was the go to forward for Tas. Sometimes he kicks the ball with brilliant precision, like on the weekend a wind was up and he aimed nearly at the boundary post to get it to swing back for a goal but earlier 30m out right in front he nearly kicked it off his shin and just managed a point.

I cannot stress enough how good his hands are though.
