Draft pick 12

Re: draft pick

I meant where in Tas?

Plays club footy for Glenorchy (debuted at 16) who won the grand final on the weekend. kicked 4 goals 3 with a couple out on the full if my memory serves me correctly.

Played most games for the Devils this year but made himself unavailable for the 'farewell' match so that he could play the first final for Glenorchy.

Played in the Tassie U/18 side for the carnival and was relatively quiet although did kick 5 against one of the Vic sides in his best performance.

Re: draft pick

Here's some details of a guy I wouldn't be surprised to see given a spot on our rookie list for next year. He played in the ruck for the NSW/ACT team at the U18 champs and has also played a few games this season for the reserves as a top-up. Might be an inch too short for an AFL ruck but with good leap that may not be an issue (and he's taller than Jesse White).

IIRC he's also been employed this season by the Swans to do some development work with school-aged kids so they'll know a fair bit about him. Even with Pyke and Orreal as non-AFL background developing rucks, you'd think he'd be an ideal type for a rookie spot.

Main drawback to him at the moment is that his surname is pretty apt to describe his build!

Well being 7th in Australia in high jump U 20's should well and truly cover the inch or so he's short in the ruck.
Having played in our reserves do we have dibs on him?
What round pick could you see him going?

Re: draft pick

Sounds more like a rookie pick than a national draftee. And no, we don't have dibs on him because he's played with our reserves but if he falls to the rookie draft, we do have dibs on him as a local (priority) rookie.

who should we draft with pick 12?

i would like to see us get someone like a vickery or zeibell. would you like to see us draft a midfielder or another tall?

there are many variables and we should take them if they fall as low as 12. in a heartbeat. bf might predict the phantom draft, but different teams have different priorities and we must seize any chance we have.

You will not get Vickery because if he is available at Richmond's pick they will take him as they are really impressed with him and we need another ruckmen..

To add to that his father works for the Tigers and I know some one who is friends with him at his school, Haileybury, and said he is a passionate Tigers supporter and wonts to play for them if possible.

with the barry hall and o'keefe rumours going around, we will get those high draft picks.

if they leave, we will need goodes at chf and mol will get an extra year. the changing of the guard has begun.

we need guys like white to step up, otherwise we need to draft well. its high time the team dynamic changed and we planned for our next flag.

Lol. Baz and RyanO will only be let go if a ridiculously unpassable offer has come by. They're 2 of the most important players at the club, and aren't going to go unless we get compensated pretty well for it (read: advantage to us). Nobody's going to take Baz after this year.

Maybe someone like Lewis Johnstone, Steele Sidebottom or Sammy Blease

If you get two picks inside the top 12, it will be good for the club. In the end the club is about to hit a serious rebuild phase and O'Keefe has currency and will not be in your next premiership side (realistically it takes 5 years to rebuild a side)

You know they made a semi-final- and one could argue 1/2 a game out from being in the Top 4- and getting a prelim final spot. Not sure they're screaming for a massive over-hual.

LOL, only if you follow the Essendon model.

In the next 3 years they will lose Hall, MOL, Barry, Kennelly (probably-Ireland?). That is 4 really key players. Whether a club likes it or not they will enter a serious rebuild. You cannot stay in the 8 forever. Getting draft picks this year (especially seeing it is a strong draft) will benefit the Swans long term.

All of the 4 player's you've listed have been out for quite a considerable amount of time and been replaced. Going out all together, sure, we might drop, but we have got replacements for them.

Name those "replacements"..and if one is Playfair you are struggling

Haha. Nah, Playfair's been more of a connecting player for us taking marks outside and inside the 50. I meant more that we've been able to cover the impact them not being in the side has had. There's always going to be a hole once they leave, but not big enough to not be able to be covered with what we've got running around in Canberra every week (if you want to know any more about that, we've got our reserves 2008 thread. ask away).
