I've settled on (what i'd be happy with anyway..) :

18: Pat McCarthy / Seb Tape
34: Jamie Cripps / Luke Mitchell
42: Angus Litherland / Alex Johnson

All signs point to Watson, which I'd be happy with! Bigger build, great kick, could slot in rather quickly!

Overall, it's comforting knowing that most likely one of Tape, Watson, McCarthy or Darling will be there for the taking..

Spot on with with pick 18 and 34, got to get Seb Tape if he is still there..... I would take Karnezis ahead of Mitchell and Cripps if he still were availble though

To use a line from a great movie...

"Tell him his dreamin!"

Agreed. That would be an astounding result for us which means that it is not likely.

I would love -

18 - Matt Watson
34 - Luke Mitchell
42 - Aaron Young

Again unlikely but one can hope!

Pretty sure TG has already posted that but thanks anyway Aph. :p

Interesting to note that Sheehan doesn't have McCarthy in his top 30, but says that there are at least 10-15 more players who could easily feature in his top 30.

TBH I hate the "ready to go" description of the talls.

They are all crap.

There has been hardly any talls in the last decade that have been ready to go from day-dot.

Especially defenders.

Hurley did O.K, but then again, I wouldn't associate that years performance with the "ready to go" attitude most people plaster them with.

The reality is, most of these talls weights are misleading, they are carrying a good 5-10% more puppy fat than a seasoned key position player, and thus, are all realistically around 10kg's lighter, or at a significant disadvantage in strength.

I think Watson will do O.K as a third tall next year, but will struggle on the mobile types.

If he gets given a job on an athletic tall, such as a Pavlich, Franklin, Goodes etc, expect him to be eaten up and gobbled out.

For his first couple of seasons at least.
There will be a huge load of circle jerkers saying "I told you so!" and "Watson will be ready to go" if we draft him ahead of McCarthy.

Bring on Thursday, it will be an interesting day.

Especially with the reverse countdown, that brings a whole new element of excitement. It worked so well last year!

It actually made it worse and harder to follow IMO. Still, I cannot wait!

The game may be going towards fast and agile, yet there is still a match-up for Watson in most sides stocks of young forwards. We already have quite a few options as faster, versatile hybrid defenders and they aren't as hard to find (e.g. Litherland, Monaco, McInnes in this draft alone), and none of them have a canon for a leg

Agreed. Really don't need to add to the stocks of third tall types...Bower, White, presumably Laidler, Russel at a pinch, Waite if its called for and Thornton if desperate. If we are going for a KPD first up size and strength have to be big factors, even if it comes at the expense of a little mobility. Unless of course you can find that really big, strong, super fast tall guy with elite disposal that's never been beaten in a contest...he'd be handy too. Don't know (from very limited vision) if Tape or even McCarthy add greatly to the dynamic we already have amongst our defenders.

Penny for your thoughts on Chalwell Splendini. Admittedly only know the name because he has come up in a few phantoms, but on limited vision he seems a commanding presence on the field. Good pace, strong in the air, and a fair lump of a kick from what I could see. If the first choice KPD is gone at 18 are we better taking a mid and looking to Chalwell with our second?

Considering we are 95% sure of the top 3 and 100% sure of #1, I dont see the point in doing the reverse order this year.

It's f*cking stupid.

Yes you are right BB7. It is a few pages back & I just found it now (post 491)

Sorry TG :p

Sheehan also doesn't have Isaac Smith in his top 30.

I don't know anything about any of the draft prospects, but from reading posts on here & from those that watch TAC etc, my guess for Pick 18 is McCarthy, Darling or Watson.

I do agree with a lot of what he said but the fact is Watson would be unlikely to play against those athletic talls that he mentioned anyway. I do think he will need a couple of years to have a significant impact but he will always be in the game with his reading of the play and elite disposal.

McCarthy could end up similar to Bower and looks to play a similar role as he does. I like Watson because he gives us something different, is a good fit for our defense and would take a role that no one has been able to stake a claim on as yet.

My source for Colts footage fell through this year Cosmo, so I won't comment on youtube footage...his testing was good and appears to have performed well in the colts finals series which is encouraging. But he appears to have also been played as one of those undersized ruckmen in junior ranks, they tend to slide a bit (e.g. James Craig last year).

I tend to agree with him, he is a good prospect but has only played 6 VFL games and has shown flashes of brilliance. I'm not sure on his disposal, whilst it can be penetrating it looks a little flakey for mine and I am far from 100% sold on him.

It's quite frustrating isn't it? I just don't understand the thought process behind it and why the AFL has persisted with it this year.

I've seen 5 of Smith's games and think he looks great. Remember how raw he is - despite his age. Was playing country footy a couple of months ago. Has shown he has talent and has all the athletic capabilities to suggest he'll be able to do it at AFL level too. Smedts, McCarthy, Cook are other possibilities for the Cats, they are in a good position.

I think if they want Smith he would have to go at 15 because North would take him at 17 otherwise. Having said that I think McCarthy will still be on the board at 23 and Lucas Cook is another big chance.

Watson is bigger, loves the contest, the big spoils and the body on body stuff. McCarthy is very cool headed, can zone off and run, although is also a solid mark. Watson has the bigger body, McCarthy more athletic. You decide! :)

I wasn't aware that Smith has only played 6 VFL games.

Just have to wait & see on Thursday.

Is it televised live on Foxtel?

This is my thoughts as well, but there are many Colts watchers that are currently pumping his tyres. I'm still unsure if it is completely warranted at being a likely top 30 pick.
James Craig also appeared to have a better year and was drafted low down, then again, it seems like he may have a few more strings to his bow than Craig.

First time I've made my thoughts known on this years drafting.

Who I want at 18 depends on basically one person; Austin.

It really depends on how the MC view him for the future and to a lesser extent, Waite.

If they still have faith in Austin at CHB and believe he is ready to start making an impact I would be looking at McCarthy as a first preference and will tentatively nominate Darling as my second.

If they are a bit skeptical OR could see him being used potentially as a KPF then I'm Watson all the way.

Hope it's not a picket fence...

On a couple of seperate vids his physicality really stands out, nice fluid mover and one touch marking...not sure if their is an existing bandwagon, or if I need to charter a private one, but either way I'm on it.

This drafting thing is a lark when you don't have any pesky credibility to get in the way.

Look forward to thursday and be interesting to see if we do go older players like Emma said.

Pick 18- Tape or Watson or McCarthy

Pick 34- Parker, Mitchell, Hallahan, Cripps or Karnezis

Pick 41- Andreoli, Newton or Litherland

Pick 67- Tom Gordan or Myles Sewell

PIck 70- The Wayne Hughes surprise :D
