Please read the following post by a cluey North fan regarding Watson being plug and play...All signs point to Watson, which I'd be happy with! Bigger build, great kick, could slot in rather quickly!
There will be a huge load of circle jerkers saying "I told you so!" and "Watson will be ready to go" if we draft him ahead of McCarthy.TBH I hate the "ready to go" description of the talls.
They are all crap.
There has been hardly any talls in the last decade that have been ready to go from day-dot.
Especially defenders.
Hurley did O.K, but then again, I wouldn't associate that years performance with the "ready to go" attitude most people plaster them with.
The reality is, most of these talls weights are misleading, they are carrying a good 5-10% more puppy fat than a seasoned key position player, and thus, are all realistically around 10kg's lighter, or at a significant disadvantage in strength.
I think Watson will do O.K as a third tall next year, but will struggle on the mobile types.
If he gets given a job on an athletic tall, such as a Pavlich, Franklin, Goodes etc, expect him to be eaten up and gobbled out.
For his first couple of seasons at least.
Bring on Thursday, it will be an interesting day.

The game may be going towards fast and agile, yet there is still a match-up for Watson in most sides stocks of young forwards. We already have quite a few options as faster, versatile hybrid defenders and they aren't as hard to find (e.g. Litherland, Monaco, McInnes in this draft alone), and none of them have a canon for a leg

Pretty sure TG has already posted that but thanks anyway Aph.
Interesting to note that Sheehan doesn't have McCarthy in his top 30, but says that there are at least 10-15 more players who could easily feature in his top 30.

Yes you are right BB7. It is a few pages back & I just found it now.
Sorry TG
Sheehan also doesn't have Isaac Smith in his top 30.
I tend to agree with him, he is a good prospect but has only played 6 VFL games and has shown flashes of brilliance. I'm not sure on his disposal, whilst it can be penetrating it looks a little flakey for mine and I am far from 100% sold on him.
Considering we are 95% sure of the top 3 and 100% sure of #1, I dont see the point in doing the reverse order this year.
It's f*cking stupid.
Also, does he even watch VFL for his rankings?

LinkI've seen 5 of Smith's games and think he looks great. Remember how raw he is - despite his age. Was playing country footy a couple of months ago. Has shown he has talent and has all the athletic capabilities to suggest he'll be able to do it at AFL level too. Smedts, McCarthy, Cook are other possibilities for the Cats, they are in a good position.
LinkI think if they want Smith he would have to go at 15 because North would take him at 17 otherwise. Having said that I think McCarthy will still be on the board at 23 and Lucas Cook is another big chance.
LinkWatson is bigger, loves the contest, the big spoils and the body on body stuff. McCarthy is very cool headed, can zone off and run, although is also a solid mark. Watson has the bigger body, McCarthy more athletic. You decide!![]()

My source for Colts footage fell through this year Cosmo, so I won't comment on youtube footage...his testing was good and appears to have performed well in the colts finals series which is encouraging. But he appears to have also been played as one of those undersized ruckmen in junior ranks, they tend to slide a bit (e.g. James Craig last year).
