Guys, i know i am new to this caper, but please take your anger to another place.:thumbsd: We all want what's best for CFC, there's no point getting frustrated given that all will be revealed tomorrow night.:D

My take is that Watson will fall to pick 18, he seems like a likely type. Has a great set of hands and can really penetrate the lines with his left boot. Noted in an article by Jay Clarke that he "Has some Brian Lake-traits. Ready to go next season."

Not sure whether WH will take the punt on him (i.e. @ 18) or wait to see if he can fall through to pick 34?

Thoughts...
Definitely wont be around at pick 34.

The boy reminds me a lot like Benny Graham. Wouldn't be too displeased if we got him, however only if he is the best available.

If you wish to discuss football department resources and player development then we might find an area where Collingwood box us around the ears a little bit.

This has been a major issue for the Blues, our player development has been below Collingwood for a while. This means that a core age brackets is a little lacking, we should see some signs of improvement in the coming years. Having a solid group of mature aged players, then topping up our list with young talent.

Those dark Carlton years are slowly becoming a distant memory.

Collingwood stated that they were interested in Hampson at ten if Browne was gone.
I know who's going on my ignore list...
Already on my mine, but sometimes I take a look to laugh at the flog's word for word imitation of ThePanther's pathetic logic and trolling.

Funny about that, ThePanther is the only one on my ignore list ATM. He's so frustrating.

His rightful place is in my signature.

That is, of course, until his moronic buddy Invigoration comes up with another pearl of wisdom. It's really only a matter of time.

Agree with this. I'm sure he believes he's god's gift to Big Footy.

Anyway, back on topic.........who do we want again at 18?

Need to fill a big hole that holding us back big time....key position defence. There are other things we need but not to the same extent. Look after the priorities first. No KPD (decent one of course), no premiership. To me, has to be Watson.

Whoever we draft isn't going to make a difference to how we go next year. Darling is the guy with the most talent likely to be around pick 18 and we should definitely pick him up. In a couple of years when he is ready to come in and play full forward we can shift Waite to defence, it's not such a big deal and it would be a good problem to have. None of the key defenders in this draft are going to come in and be any good next year, including Watson. Hurley was fantastic in his first season when compared to first year players but he wasn't exactly an all australian contender. If Austin doesn't come good and Bower doesn't step up this season then it's going to be a similar defence to last year and whilst that isn't ideal, its managable, which we proved by making finals. We can always trade for a key defender at the end of next year if we are so desperate for instant results.

People querying Darling's height of 191cm are being ridiculous. He is easily tall enough to play key position. If he plays up off the field then we'd turf him, but the potential upside he'd offer is easily worth pick 18 in the draft. Lets be honest, we are talking about pick 18 in a compromised draft not pick 1 in a super draft.

In two years time we could potentially have Henderson and Darling as our key targets in the forward line, which if Darling lives up to his potential, would be scary as. Waite will be in defence plugging the hole at chb and we could easily have traded for another key defender too

If not Darling go Issac Smith, he could be anything too.

Why not McCarthy?

We can always get a defender at 34 or 42 if a classy ball user slides.

These picks aren't likely to have elite talent, but that's approximately where Garland was picked in 2006.

Jimthegreat and BlueGibbs2011 if we pick Watson...

SAY WHAT?
You are bound to hear a few favourite phrases from recruiters on Thursday night as the teenage meat market unfolds. To make sense of it all, here's The Adjudicator's guide to debunking the draft speak.

They say: Late bloomer.
Mr A says: Talented as a 10-year-old, this kid spent years at the skate park and dabbled in graffiti. When his old man threatened him with part-time work, the boy said he wanted to go back and play footy. The fear of a job in the real world is driving him.

They say: Project player.
Mr A says: Gangly teenager who grew 20cm in year 11 and now can't get his arms and legs to work in unison. Will spend three seasons adding 20kg to his frame before his back gives way and his AFL dream ends.

They say: In and under.
Mr A says: The boy makes Justin Madden look fleet of foot. He will bash and crash in for 100 games before the pain catches up with him. Think Brock McLean.

They say: Outside player.
Mr A says: Doesn't like watching horror movies on his own in the dark. In fact, he hates the dark. Pace to burn but usually used to get away from any form of physical contact.

They say: Can play anywhere.
Mr A says: They tried him in defence and didn't man up, they used him as a forward but he can't kick straight, and he's not fit enough to be a midfielder or tall enough to ruck. Need to find somewhere to hide him.

They say: He's never rushed.
Mr A says: Hard to tell if he's awake sometimes. Socks down, jumper out, probably grow a beard and go surfing for weeks on end during the off season.

They say: Super competitive.
Mr A says: Once threw a tennis racquet at his sister's head after she called a ball long.

They say: Talented all-round sportsman.
Mr A says: One of those annoying kids who was good at everything he played. And knew it.

They say: Born leader.
Mr A says: Nerd. School captain, did all his homework on time, helped old ladies with their shopping.

I am of the belief that the mature core of Maxwell, Cloke, Swan, Ball, O'Brien, Didak, Jolly, Shaw and Brown may have assisted with Collingwoods second take.

You talk of going postal if Hughes doesn't select a KPP, yet at the same time you are first in line to pat yourself on the back for thinking we should have taken Pendlebury over Kennedy (when we had just selected an astoundingly good mid with pick one). Astoundingly hypocritical. I'd still take Kennedy now with the wisdom of hindsight.

All you have highlighted there is that we have used our first round picks to best effect...a bit of a reach for a project in Hampson that is yet to come to fruition and the traded Grigg who time has shown to be taken at about the right rung in a shallow draft. Hughes needs no excuses because time has poven the majority of his selections correct.

What would you have done differently with your 20:20 hindsight and your disproportionate use of exclamation marks?

If you wish to discuss football department resources and player development then we might find an area where Collingwood box us around the ears a little bit.

I don't have a problem with Hughes and I think he has done a good job, but credit where it is due. Hine did take a bit of punt in 06?...and all of Reid, Brown and Dawes have now been solid citizens in a flag year and are still a few years off their peaks barring accidents. I actually don't think that there are that many dud recruiters out there IMO. They all have their hits and misses.

I hear what you are saying, but it could just as easily be Watson in a couple of years time holding down CHB with Waite staying forward. Whoever we take will require a bit of work. What tips the balance for me is that I would much prefer a young defender coming in working under Brown than I would a young forward working under Barker. Although that is probably unfair to barker.

Don't care which KPD falls to us as long as he's decent. I picked Watson as he tested well, has good size (albeit though against under 18's), quicker than we thought and is a beautiful kick.

Don't fill the biggest hole we have we won't be winning any flags. One big key to a premiership side is a good defence. A midfielder won't help that won't help that. Skill of a recruiter is to structure the best side over all for balance not just "bulk up" one area.
