I cannot imagine what the draftees must be feeling right now.

The nerves and excitement would be through the roof.

A couple of guys I know who will be taken in the first or second round are getting pretty nervous. I can't imagine the feeling of expectation and hope at the same time. Most have just finished their exams too so this will be another relief if they get drafted tonight.

Sorry Kramer1, it was not really a go at yourself, it was more an observation of how BF can jump on bandwagons.

GHS, Chalwell and Hallahan are Carlton's big bandwagons. There are 100 other draftable players, yet they never seem to get mentioned.

There are a heap of other defenders that never get mentioned, midfielders..... I just find it interesting that BF gets locked on certain players and they almost must be selected at a certain pick, if avaliable.

Yeah no sweat. If I didn't start the Chalwell bandwagon, I certainly have preferential seating on it.

Problem is most of us (self included) know nought, and pretty well every scrap of info available on draftees focuses solely on attributes...they all sound like world beaters, and all of them are likened to a Johnathon Brown or a Luke Hodge, never a Henry Slattery or Jake King.

I don't really mind who we get as long as they are willing at the contest and have above average footskills...two things that can seldom be improved to any great degree post draft.

Gotta marvel at Watson's kicking in his vids though. 60m, direct and to advantage. We sure as hell don't have that on the list at present.

B: Russell Jamison Laidler
HB: Bower McCarthy/Watson Lucas

It's all over because we didn't pick Talia and missed out on a year's development.

Can even switch Waite back and promote Austin if needed.

McCarthy's size at 196 cms would be a fillip once he fills out and develops.

The thing that might turn us against Darling is that we might be able to get a forward at 34 or 42.

Possibly Karnezis who has been likened to Waite.

Rather get a defender because we didn't have trouble scoring this year.

That was the backline that came to mind, forgot about Lucas & Laidler.

Both in the mix for sure.

If we dont start structuring is solid backline with the likes of a Watson/McCarthy we will continue to be 3yrs away from challenging a premiership.

TG is right we didnt have trouble scoring and yes their will still be experiemental forwards down the order. We have the salary cap room (i think*) to lure a decent proven forward in '11' or '12'. But the reacurring problem is our backline!!

Please go priority over the pretty! (fingers crossed)

Could our choice have anything to do with pleasing Jack Anthony in some sense?

Selecting a key back will assure him (should he be picked up) a spot in the forward line, making his preferred destination a bit less clear.

I wonder if there's anything to that... :o

1. This is why I don't get into the whole draft thing and;
2. Single biggest selling point for mine.

He does have a nice kick but apart from his obvious physical attributes I thought his most impressive feature was his commitment to the ball and the contest. Confident in his size I guess and under no circumstances does he take his eye off the ball.

I don't understand the Conca bolt to Richmond at pick 6. He will be a good player but I think there are better options.

Exactly my thinking. The more midfielders taken before our pick, obviously the more likely we get the KPP we are after.

That is exactly what is more than likely to happen BB7 :thumbsu:

Welcome to Carlton ...........

Matthew Watson

I probably assumed this part was ok but thought the long accurate kicking was a standout feature over and above the traits your 'average' defender is expected to have.:thumbsu:

I suspect clubs will pick mids and the good talls (Cook, Watson, Lycett, Darling, Mitchell, etc.) because they won't be available at their next pick. That's more likely to push another rated mid down to our pick like Robinson in 2008. Unless Cook or Mitchell slide which is very unlikely, I think we will draft an inside mid with pick 34.
