I was very disapointed at first when we picked up Hurley. I wanted Rich or Sidebottom. Now, I have been thinking more wisely and less about excitement. Hurley will be a vital factor in rebuilding the baby bombers. He looks extremely determined and talked well in his interview with Jason McCartney. He doesn't look much of a bragger and someone who talks a lot. He looks like someone who just wants to focus on training and doing his best. Rich would of been a vital assett and would of had the same significance to Essendon as Hurley does, if not less. Our backline will be invincible in the near future. Ryder, Hurley and Pears are going to be unstopable. Ryder can take the quock talls. Pears can also take the fast and strong talls. Hurley will be that player like Scarlett who takes the main forward and creates play out of the backline. He is already huge and will be ready for 2009.

Not overly happy. I cant get it out of my head that had we taken Rich at 5, maybe Trengrove would have still been there at 23.....
Hope to be proven wrong but I cant see Hurley matching up on athletic forwards eg. Franklin

That's becuase Ryder should take the athletic forwards like Franklin and Riewoldt. Hurley should take the man mountains in time, and run off them.

Ryder really needs to step up next year and convert some of his talent into performance. I hope he is carving up the weights room.

With our potential backmen all being all under 21, it will give them time to develop as a team down back.

I'm very happy with Hurley, as I would have been with Rich. It's obvious that we needed Hurley and couldn't risk there not being another class defender available at 23.

I would have thought he was one of our stand out performers in 2008.

Hes the best key back i have seen in the draft since Ryder so we could potentially have a super back line especially down the spine. I havnt seen KPD go as high as both Ryder and Hurley so we potentially have the best spine in the backs for the future and we all know that the backline is what wins you finals and premierships. Its not how many goals you kick its how many goals you save. All the recent GF sides have had super solid backlines.

Zaharakis is a gifted mid and a leader for the future, hes another AA so we have the best defender in the carnival and probably a top 2 mid in the carnival.

Wish we picked either Allwright, Pearce, Deboer instead of Still or passing.

^^ Ryder could play any position on the field but was picked by the dons as a FB/CHB/Ruck. Im saying at of all the recent KPD picked up we have go both the highest picks of the KPD. (Hurley and Ryder)

I'm quite happy that we drafted Hurls. We have a young, but potentially strong backline, that could really become a force within a few years. Hurley may well have been the last piece of the defensive puzzle.

He was drafted solely as a ruckman, and Sheeds converted him.

I'm happy with grabbing Hurley who can play either on back or forward line. Our forward line is pretty good (Cant complain)..cant wait to see Gumby and Neagle out there to! :) Hurls will help out without a doubt in the backine..I'm excited :thumbsu:

Im happy with the pick, with Mal gone and Fletch with a year maybe 2 left, can help him and Paddy.
