I would have thought Rich and Trengove (maybe Lisle), but Port just snatched him from under our noses, so in the end Hurley and Zaharakis isn't such a bad combo.

EFC was never going to grab Trengove after selecting Hurley or they would have selected a Lisle type player at 23.

Merv stickied four threads in anticipation of the draft.

The one he didn't sticky was the "whinge thread". And it was so obvious too because after every draft the whingers come out for a crack

Knights said that for pick 5 he was following a plan that was in place before he arrived in the job. Replacing key position stock was always on the agenda and he made special note of Fletcher. We have drafted a raft of potential midfielders in previous drafts. Do we keep doing it until Bf is unanimous and forget the other issues?

Every time you guys whinge about rich v Hurley you are only say one thing.
...
You swallowed all the Bf swill on the draft board about Rich. Which really infers your perspective was as short as your posts and the arguments you put forward here. Hurley is a replete footballer and what we needed.

Adjust

We should be happy that the recruiting team and coaching staff followed through on their plan.

The plan was fix up the spine before Fletcher/Lloyd/Lucas retire.

It is clear that Dodoro rated Yarran and that Knights rated Sidebottom but it was more important to draft a key back at this stage.

I congratulate the club for following through on their plan.

Excellent stuff.
Now run along to your board and talk about him before you end up tripping over your tongue here and injuring yourself.

No need to get angry I am just surprised a slow defender has so much hype. I was scared we would grab him

Since we're going on misconceptions. Yarran won't amount to anything as he has attitude problems and will sook and go back to Perth in a couple of years. He also doesn't chase hard so defenders will have a field day running off against your forwards.

Not angry at all but your opinion means nothing to us here as your posts on BF are renowned for being born from little to no knowledge of football.

Therefore you are left with nothing but feeble attempts at trolling which is going to get your into trouble.

You were given a warning with the tripping over your tongue analogy, i have now spelt it out for you.

birley, brearley, burley, burly, cearley, curley, curly, durley, earley, earlie, early, erly, girlie, gurley, hurly, kearley, kerley, kirley, murley, pearly, perley, sherley, shirlee, shirley, shirlie, shurley, surly, turley, verley, werley, wherley, whirley, worley

point 1 (the red highlight): i can't believe I din't know there were 6 ways to spell Sherley/Shirlee/Shirley/Shilie/Shurely
point 2 (again in the red): I so hope we set him up with a model with the aforementioned name
point 3 (blue): if i may quote Homer Simpson
"rhyming Homer with homer *mwah!*

well that was my amusement for tonight

^^^ ok seriously don't like you

i'm thrilled with Hurley selection and can't wait for the day he shuts your teams forward line down. and goes Michael O'Loughlin on your face when he kicks the winning goal, because that's right, he's capable of doing that despite his lack of speed

and I think that you and your pessemistic, uninformed opinions should go and pick fights with other pessemistic uniformed haters

EDIT: Not you Spikey.

Oh at I am loving the fact that we royally ****ed up Carlton's draft plans by taking Hurley, they were waiting to pounce on him at pick 6, no doubt whatsoever!!!

Got a pretty handy midfield now, pity they have nothing resembling a key defender and only have one key forward. They would have been thinking that Hurley was going to be the full back in their next premiership team!!

:D:D:D:D:D

It's my understanding that our recruiters rated like this:

1.Nick Nat
2.Yarran
3.Hurley

Hurley will go alright, so will Yarran. Must have been some questions over Rich for him to be overlooked...

Well done Bombers on getting Hurley.
Carltank must be spewing, which is, of course, a fantastic thing.
If Gumbleton can get his body right, you guys have the makings of an awesome defence.:thumbsu:

You reckon Gumbleton will play back? I'd have thought Pears, Hurley and Ryder would be enough coverage.

Also, can you please lose that sig?:p

If he can get his body right, Gumbleton will play wherever he damn well feels like. Big year coming up for him, but if it all falls into place, you will have a cracker there and I still think CHB will be his best spot.
(can change to sig to 4-4 if you like?)

Hope you're right, RIG. Hurley's 20 meter sprint time won't matter when we play the blues. Yarran's defensive pressure + Fev's defensive pressure, we'll just have to make do with Alwyn Davey.

That's an interesting one.

That'd mean Ryder would probably go forward, giving us a lot of X-Factor there, and giving him the chance to take some massive marks without fear of letting his man get loose.

(I'd settle for 4-5;))

Obviously you know your list way better than I do, but I've always liked Ryder as a floater in that he can play back, forward, pinch hit in the ruck and so forth. I see Gumbleton as a genuine CHB and reckon that's where he will play his best football.
Anyway, Hurley will be a very good player. I think Knighta is on the right track for you guys. May take a few more years, but he'll get you there.

Totally agree with you on Ryder, i hope some of the prospective keys on our list can come through and we can unleash him anywhere.

On Gumbleton, like most people i haven't seen a lot of him, but something that stuck in my mind was in the Sheeds/Hird MCG farewell game one of your blokes took a mark as on the flank right in front of where i was sitting. Gumby tried to spoil, but was already caught well out of position, and the bloke played on around him because he just didn't expect it and was expecting to be able to just turn around and stand the mark.

To me it just showed little defensive awareness.

It stuck in my mind because it happened right in front of me, I'd be happy for someone who has seen more of the bloke to shut me down and assure me that he has that side to his game...

After the initial disappointment of skipping Rich and Yarran, I'm stoked we got Hurley. The drafting got me thinking, and I remembered when Fletcher was out of the side this year we struggled immensely clearing our defensive half due to lack of defenders with quality foot skills, IMO Hurley will help to rectify this.

Hurley looks like he's carrying a bit of puppy fat to me and losing that while training in an elite facility with specifically structured drills will also help him with his pace and athleticism.

Something a lot of Bomber fans have been crying out for is someone with a bit of mongrel and grit.

I reckon Hurley will give us this along with a player with a defensive game, an elite 50+ mtr elite kick etc etc.

I'm very happy Hurley is a Bomber

Nope clubs drafted for need rather then best available otherwise Rich would have gone #1 (if the dees needed a mid rather then a forward)
Bombers needed a defender,Blues a small forward,port went local..

Remember also there were questions over S.Black..something about him being too slow;)

Some people seem to forget that you don't have to be the fastest or the fittest guy out on field, to be the best.

James Hird wasn't the fastest nor the most skilful guy out there when he played, but he was always the Best out there!
