One of the problems people have with trading away players like Lucas is that we are basically saying "We don't think we will be successful enough to have a go at the flag while <playername> is still young enough to play."

I definatly think Lucas would get a decent return as there are clubs out there that have a good team but just need that little bit extra to make them great.
 
id concider trading lucas after next season as this one is a very weak draft supposedly. but to tell you the truth with the way lloyd has played this year id be trading lloyd before lucas
 
i wouldn't trade him for a draft pick but a classy midfielder would do the job

can't see either happening though

If we could get a first and second round draft pick i would say done deal ..
 
they wouldn't do that and i wouldn't buy a membership if we picked up higgins. all he is-is a soft, cherry picking forward who wouldn't get a kick in a weak side.

what about lucas for gia + 2nd rounder
or
lucas + 3rd rounder for griffen

I wouldn't want to see him go but WCE need another forward lucas would fit that mould, and we need one of the shitloads of midfielders they have.
 
Lloyd has been ordinary since his return. He's not a key to the future. I'd like to see the club act on him while he still has an inflated market value. Unfortunately, it coincides with a weak draft. Is Cotchin and an extra pick in the second round worth the gambit?

How often have you seen a club offer up their captain for trade? It would destroy the fabric of the club, therefore there are two chances of this happening.... Buckleys and none.

That's because he's not very good.


If we end up with pick 4 and I hope to hell we don't, I'd be praying the Cotchin slips.

Cotchin, Stanton, Jetta, Dempsey, Hislop, Reimers, Watson, Slattery gives us the core of a good future midfield.
 
To be honest i dont see too many clubs lining up to give away two picks or a first rounder and a player to get a 29 year old . Lucas is a good player and most clubs would want him but his age reduces his currency. I think if he atracted a mid to late first rounder you would be getting the maximum deal for him.
 
I have never heard anything so ridiculous in my life with the suggestions tio trade Scotty.

He bleeds red and black for us - you don't just throw those players on the scrapheap after your done with them. It would destroy the club.

The poor bloke has been getting jabbed up with cortisone before every match ever since Round 4 just to help his team out - god knows what its doing for him long term but he does it because he loves the club and wants to see us win.

And what for ?
A kid that probably has a 20% chance of being half as good as him. Bloody hell, if Gumbleton turns out to be 75% as good as Lucas then I'll be happy.

Some of you have got no idea.

Touche' marcuz.

By and large they are (thats another topic anyway) however Scotty is getting towards the end of his career and you do whatever it takes, within reason, to look after those players.

I'd take possibly take Griffin and a 2nd rounder, not sure i'd want to give up Scotty for anything less than that.
 
make sure you spell griffen with a "e" as griffin is the dud from adelaide
 
Scott Lucas and a 3rd rounder for Griffen? what the hell is that, the kid is good but he seems to be way overated.
