All sorts of considerations would come into play in selecting a player and if a club is comfortable that they all the bases covered, then they take the player they deem to be the right one for the club.

Yes, do consider the fact that a player may have come from a remote community but don't throw out the notion of drafting him, just because of that.
SOS and co would have done plenty of work on SPS, Brodie, Taranto....you name him. Just get the best player for the club.

Sage comments Harker. SOS and recruiters would be ALL over it. But the footy public are behind the times on this particular issue. I think SPS has the highest ceiling. I think he's the next Michael Jordan.

Surely it should be a factor with SPS, just like adelaide recruiting a young dangerfield with strong family roots in victoria should be. But more importantly , the players character should be evaluated as well. Dangerfield, although being the prick who has layed out our captain a few times, is a decent fella. Did he drop his head like henderson in his final year? No. Did he walk out on Adelaide or did he ensure that they were well rewarded for their efforts? Decent blokes will always be worth recruiting, as you will get a decent pound of flesh from them whilst they are playing with you, and then when they "go home"you get well rewarded as well.

This came from one post on this board and it's not even close to being true. He's known for being a gut runner and averaged nearly five tackles a game in the TAC cup.
Brodie is still the safest and most known opportunity. Hope we take him before SPS as no go home factor as he is Victorian, will fix our biggest immediate deficiency and was considered the best until he got injured, but still showed he could play through injury. He has 70% DE so he is a good kick, he tackles, he is a brute.

Exactly what we need.

The thing with SPS is he has been living away from home for a number or years now and appears to be handling it very well.
A kid that wasn't and has he's level of talent wouldn't be making noise about how keen he is to move to Melbourne.

All this noise about SPS and the "Go Home" factor has me perplexed.

Has the AFL issued a licence for a team to be based in Halls Creek?. There is no go home factor with SPS, it is like recruiting a kid from Tasmania or NT
Interesting point mate, and I can't help but agree.. SPS has always been and still is my personal preference; talent to burn and seemingly driven enough to honour his potential. I also like the idea of getting another indigenous boy in, especially with Andy Walker taking on a role at the club.

It is always a strong consideration when recruiting from outside your State, it needs to be strongly factored in. Indigenous boys from remote communities have a much higher drop out rate. A first round pick can become a disaster. I trust SOS and the crew to make the right call on SPS and Bolton and co to have the right programme's in place. The kid seems self assured and confident from what I have seen.

If he has an issue acclimatising to Melbourne, that's an understandable concern.

Pretty sure Picketts mum is a lawyer and his dad in an aboriginal advocate, plus both have moved interstate to support him. Sound like great indigenous role models.

That plus Walker in a full time indigenous support role should see us in the best position to give someone like SPS the best chance of succeeding.

Would be huge for our club if Pickett and SPS became indigenous leaders like Eddie, and would open the door for a lot more success stories for us.

Appreciate you sharing the info Kruzering, its exactly these type of constructive comments we need around here.
Pickett and SPS are both super talented and may just be able to provide that sparkle we've so longed.
Agree that CFC have taken a positive step forward in player welfare and integration, Andy is a great choice, a champion Bagger and respected by all.

Been tossing up between Taranto and SPS. Looks like Taranto will be gone, so SPS it is. Love the way this kid moves. Such a low centre of gravity, he's changing direction with his hips and legs before his body lets on. Makes him so look so evasive. Only concern I have is over his hammies. Not great to see a young fella have this injury and his short burst legs might give him some problems in the future. Hopefully the docs are all over it and got it covered.

Matt Balmer thinks Scrimshaw still in the picture for pick 5, basically he thinks it is between he and SPS. This along with ms3 post makes think if we don't get SPS then it will be Scrimshaw.
