SOS needs to throw out a couple more names, get the other teams looking in the wrong places and hopefully allowing us a better option at 25.

If we are looking for midfielders, talk up the talls and hope someone gets nervous and jumps the gun with their picks in the late first and early second round.

I think that our choice will be between Sam Petrevski Seton and Taranto and I go with SPS also Twomey is right in saying that Silvagni's best and ideal option would probably be Setterfield if he miraculously fell to us .

Setterfield is a high quality 1.90 cm tall very talented midfielder.
Beautiful lateral movement great skill set , big bodied absolutely ticks all the boxes.
Dream midfileder and would be the answere to our problems.
I'd also be very happy with SPS great midfield with much X factor but small.

If the AFL strip GWS of 2 picks can't see Them matching Setterfield at 5.

So, give me some info on this bloke in comparance to sps, Taranto etc etc
I reckon they'd give up Perryman before Setterfield.

They'll probably give up Sproule as well if that happens and they're worried about paying all the points. That said, they've got a few future picks for exactly this scenario. Someone needs to bid fair value for Macreadie to really make them earn it, however.

The comparison to Mundy is apt

Pace is average, winning most of his possessions in close. Has great footy IQ, can go forward, strong enough overhead. Impressive when he doesn't have the ball, loves to tackle and put his body on the line for teammates.

Has had some injury problems over the last couple of years, knee, feet and shoulder. If he is truly over those issues, he would be a better option than say a Brodie, if SOS wanted a more inside type mid

Agree Arrow I was about to say wright down the identical phrase , Setterfield is the better option to Brodie , better skills and the ultimate talented big bodied tall midfielder in this draft pool.

We need Brisbane to force GC to take Bowes at pick 2. They won't take Bowes at 4, if they can get him with 1 of the other top 10 pics. Forcing them to take him at 2 with their 4th is to our advantage.

Brisbane have pick 3, but otherwise, yes.

I think a reform would be to keep the points system but to allow other clubs to nominate how many points they are willing to use pre-draft on a player and then the academy club can match the bid with the points discount included. In effect a draft before the draft but using a points aggregate instead of draft position. It would be messy but it could be worked out.

That's basically the old system, but with points, except now there's not really much reason to have the points.

If the points table needs to be adjusted, so be it, but think of it as a currency that can be traded upon vs. draft position.

They need to bring in live trading of picks IMO.

It's not the same as the old system because the academy clubs still have to pay their fair share as it doesn't favour clubs that finished higher on the ladder. Each bid would have to match the points aggregate of existing picks in the draft but can be accumulated and it allows every club to have a chance at a player instead of just two.

A few GWS fans seem to think Setterfield will be a bit of a flight risk as he is well settled in Melbourne. If we bid pick 5 on him and they lose picks 15 and 37 it will give them food for thought, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't match. They have a lot of list spots to fill.

Please let Setterfield not be matched. That would be a huge bonus

Is anyone of the belief Taranto could be a permanent midfielder from day dot or do you believe he'll always be someone who has to play mid and forward?

In my mind I see him purely as a midfielder. Can't see why he can't play as a relief mid while finding his feet as a forward.

Nowadays, any midfielder that is also a dangerous forward, will be required to be so called rested there, rather than on the pine
