Yeah, that's draft tampering, straight up.

Had you just stuck with contract talks (via manager), that could have stuck.
Yes, absolutely draft tampering. He was one of the a few that missed some testing at the combine and will be re-tested but that will be done by the AFL for the benefit of all clubs.

I have started to feel a little disappointed when I see that the GCS take Taranto in PDs so i guess that means that I want him with #5. A true goal kicking mid would be great esp if we can nab an inside bull with #25 would provide us with a great foundation for our mids. Im expecting us to finish bottom 5, maybe bottom 3, next year. I am also expecting us to trade our 2018 1st rd pick for a top 10 selection in 2017 as well as possibily trading out Gibbs for the Crows 2017 1st rd pick so i can see us targeting kids to round out the side next year with x3 1st rd picks so I say target outside players then. But hey wtf would I know??? .....

I think GCS will take SPS with Pick 4, Brodie with Pick 6, Bowes with Pick 8 and Scrimshaw with 10, which would give them a really nice blend. Would all be excellent players that offer something very different.

Im hoping that we at least bid on Bowes (and Setterfield) with our pick to keep them honest. We owe neither team anything and if anything the gcs owe us for the JOM help and the GWS for the KJ debacle (could have had 2 M Pete !!!!! Grrrr)

Recruited to a side which had the majority of its premiership core already playing together
Won a premiership in his first year. Yes an icing player more than a core player.

We've got the basis of our Premiership core (if) already playing together...Cripps, Doc, Weitering, Curnow, McKay, Plowman, Marchbank, Pickett, Silvagni.

SPS will be part of our core...just as Cyril was part of Hawthorns core. Without Cyril and Bud exploding in 08, Hawthorn wouldn't have been the Hawthorn we now know.

When i posted that reply, i actually thought Cyril started in 07, which was Hawthorns take off year. So my reply wasn;t as right as i thought it was.

But SPS isn't a cream on top guy anymore than Cyril was, or Joel Selwood was. He is(hopefully) a maker, not a taker.

Kobe mutch pretty much a lock as our second pick if cards fall where they should. we ate into Isaac Cummings as well. the gws link never goes away

With a nice chianti and some fava beans ?

So you watched one game and are willing to put a line through him? I watched the Vic M / Allies game on the weekend and could say the exact same thing about the "safer options" Taranto and Setterfield and Scrimshaw as well. If they didn't have hype you wouldn't have noticed them.

You could also go back and watch Bontempelli in his draft year and watch him struggle at the champs and make a strong case that the doggies should never have drafted him
I had seen other WA games sorry I didn't make that clear but this game I sat down to specifically watch him because all I hear about is that he is a gun. In my opinion he is not what we need as a footballer. You can have your own and I'm sure the recruiting team have their own as well.

And just to add as I'm quite put off by your rather rude comment -'the point I was making is that I was watching to see what he did when he was out of a contest or when he didn't have the ball - something you don't pick up in YouTube highlights. I was analysing his running patterns as best as possible from the available camera angles and to be honest he was OK but he didn't stand out. From what I've seen he looks like a flashy, brilliant player when everything is going well, but whenever VIC metro got on top he went missing. Just my view. I look forward to another snarky response

And who's the most 'Bontesque' player of this year's draft? Hint - it's not SPS! ;)

SPS stating he'd prefer to play in Melbourne will probably put them off...especially with O'Meara and Prestia leaving.

Like most on here, I have changed my mind about who we should pick with #5 over and over (and over).
I originally wanted Scrimshaw because of his size and that dreaded word 'potential' to be a Bontempelli type. The height to absorb a tackle, break the arms free, and release the ball to a running player. Also he has tidy looking skills.
Then I switched to wanting Brodie because of his beast like attributes around the stoppages and how I thought this would be a welcome addition for Crippa.
I then moved onto SPS because of his silk, his beautiful kicking on either foot, and how well he interviewed (alleviating some of my go home factor concerns).
Now I think I have finally settled on Taranto. Why? Well there are three main reasons for this.

1. Goal kicking midfielders are rare and priceless. Being able to go forward and take a big mark and impact the game when it is on the line is hugely important and is the mark of a gun player.
2. He has a basketball background and made a late switch to footy. This means he has enormous upside in what he can produce. The fact that he is a natural ball winner already with his limited exposure means he will likely translate well in the AFL environment. Those who aren't massive ball winners at junior level rarely progress that aspect at the higher level. Taranto finds it naturally and I like that. Not overly quick but makes good decisions and works pretty well in traffic.
3. A recent interview he was in on the AFL website: this showed him to be a a humble, down to earth kid.. bust most importantly I sensed the vibe that he doesn't even realise how much potential he has. Put him in an AFL environment and I suspect with his work ethic that he will flourish.

With draft day looming soon I doubt I will change my mind again! However, I think any of these four guys would be a great addition to our team.

Taranto or SPS would be such an awesome pick for you guys. If years later the pick doesn't work out no one in the industry would say they would have done anything different I recon.

Taranto for me after a Setterfield match

At 25 I want Galluchi, Fisher, Mutch, Sproule, McCredie

Coming out with a Taranto, Galluchi combo would make my day. For the Italian factor

Feels like this draft day will never arrive.

Bartel endorsed Taranto today on SEN. Resisted temptation to liken him to himself.....

Side note: get the feeling Jimmy won't be coaching anywhere next year. He has sunk some coin into footy boots and says he likes the backroom/list management stuff more at the moment
