Competitions Draft Prediction - 23 & 28

Lockyer and Murray Newman would be my choices.

Keep hearing we really want Newman so maybe him at 23.

Also WCE is showing a heap of interest in Manson still, with Freo cooling on him.

But Freo have those late picks so I think they may still pick him up if still around.

Markworth is the other I like.

Iam honestly more impressed by some of the wa boy's more so than the victorians on offer this year, in regards to picks in the 20 to 45 range.

Elliot Yeo is another, that if he was a victorian would probaly be rated a lot higher.
Good to see some respected posters having interest in this kid, seems to be an enigma round these parts for some reason.

Yeo would be ideal for a later ND pick, ie: 45 or 63 if we had managed to retain these selections. Pick 28 would be too much of a stretch although I personally wouldn't be all that disappointed considering some of the other names being thrown around (Manson, Turnbridge etc.)

In your opinion, what's the chances he'd slide through the ND entirely and still be around at our first rookie selection?

This is the first time in a while ive actually not been following the youngsters, last 2 years i was all over it but i think the fact that gws get like the first 50 picks has disinterested me this year

In terms of pure talent, I like Haynes, Crozier and Markworth as guys who could slide to our first pick. From what I have seen I would rate all these guys above Lockyer. They are all forwards as well so we can then take Lockyer as a defender at pick 28. Shane Nelson would also have to be in the mix at those picks if we think we need another midfielder. Manson is the wildcard, if we are sold on his ability to relocate and adapt to AFL we will select him because his talent is undeniable. Then with our 4 rookie picks we can load up on small forwards like Alroy Gilligan, Will Shea or whoever they like.

I was thinking that too. I only saw him at the carnival, but he is a tall and quick guy who reminded me very much of Wellingham. Would be an ideal 45-63 pick as he could be quite good given his athletic attributes and solid all-round skills.

Interested to know how highly the regular colts viewers rate him.

I would prefer that we take some young big bodied hard bastards that could potentially be enforcers for us in a few years time when we are challenging for a flag seriously.

The type of players that can be moved into the middle to protect our mids if things get a little rough.

At the moment who fills that role ?

Yeo is incredible skillwise, 9/10 kicks will hit targets and the only ineffective handballs he has are the ones that come out of the bottom of the pack. He's relatively tall (188) and can mark well against opponents of the same size. A bit on the skinny side (weights room) but is a team player and definitely not a show off. Believed he performed well in the U18 champs but was outshone by O'Meara, Coniglio etc. Averages approx. 20 disposals in colts per week playing in the middle, but can be used over a half back flank.

and become an even slower team?

In his looks perhaps.

Given his champs/ carnival he's a sure thing for the second round IMO.

Pretty much everything really. He didn't stand out imo at the carnival, but you can tell he has it in him to become a very good player given his physical attributes and ability.

Dang, I'm starting to wish we had just one more pick. We can still delist someone still yeah?

He's a full size bigger than Wellingham and is a natural flanker/ wingman at this stage. Can go inside if he want's but nothing like Wellingham can.

1. Best available outside dasher with flair - ideally Nick Haynes
2. Manson - got to take him as he won't be there later / could be gone even
before pick 28

PA are considering using # 6 on Manson ( next pick is 45 ) but Melbourne to use pick 36 on Manson if he is available at that pick .

Manson saying that he would love to play alongside Jurrah at Melbourne , Port may trump Melb with their pick 6

Fair to say at the very least pick 28 will be needed by WCE !

What's a few good websites etc to get info on all the drafts?

I use afl.com.au obviously and this site, but is there anything else?

Contested Footy i think is another i've used in the past.

Any other suggestions?

I'm always looking for more info and never satisfied... but if you search things like 'afl draft' etc into a google news search you might find more than you currently have.

It does come across as a bit of a bluff doesn't it. I think by Port coming out and saying it publically (not that there's a direct quote), his stocks just rose through the roof.

Port Adelaide are DESPERATE for quality mids. To take the risk on Manson with pick 6 would be bizarre.

Well the only club they would be trying to bluff with the pick # 6 card is GWS as they are the only club ahead of them up to pick 6. Maybe they are trying to get GWS to waste a top 5 pick on Manson so another quality option is open to them at 6.

I just can't see the point though, even with Sheedy and Williams love affair with indigenous players I can't see Silvani risking a top 5 pick on Manson no matter how many first round picks they have.

Us using pick 28 on him is paying overs IMO.

for pk 23 ---Fraser McInnes a 197 cm KPD a tall natural defender .

and pk 28---Brad Hill tested well for pace and endurance at combine

QUOTE ;""The younger brother of Fremantle's Stephen Hill enhanced his draft credentials with a series of stunning test results at the combine, with his new record score of 16.1 in the gruelling beep test a highlight.

Hill followed that up by running the fastest time (9:52) in the 3km time trial and was also ranked inside the top 10 in the 30m repeat sprint test.

He showed he has blazing speed to go with his elite endurance, with a time of 2.88s in the 20m sprint, which was in the top five at the combine.""
