Competitions Draft Prediction - 23 & 28

Would love Newman to force his way into the team over the preseason.

FF: Newman Kennedy Lecras

Now that's a dangerous FF line.

I agree Newman is, theoretically, exactly what we need. Whether or not he's good enough is another matter. But a fast mid/fwd who is good at ground level, also with good disposal is perfect.

If he was good enough to break into the 21 (very unlikely), I'd have us lined up like this:

Hurn Mackenzie Butler
Rosa Priddis Embley
Nicoski Lynch Darling
Newman Kennedy LeCras

Cox S. Selwood Kerr

Shuey Naitanui A. Selwood/Smith
S: Gaff/Masten

Shuey spending a bit of time forward too, with LeCras and Newman thrown into the midfield occasionally.

Newman also looks like a perfect sub.

23: Waylen Manson

28: Murray Newman

Our list is so balanced that we can afford to take at least one risk, being Manson. Our backline is pretty well shored up and we have a plethora of midfielders, our forwardline could do with more X-factor, which is what you get with both these two.

I'm with you on that. :thumbsu: It's looking increasingly the way to go. nine days to go!

I think that could be very well on the money for your boys. Eagles one of the few clubs that could afford to take a speculative pick like Manson :rolleyes:and Newman is exactly the sort of player you do need.

In a few years time..

HF: Lecras Kennedy Darling
FF: Manson Lycett Newman

Would still love Lockyer over Manson tbh.

Hey insane no need to be rude. Yes I was being facetious but so were you in your reply. It was a completely blanket statement so it got what it deserved. At no stage did I say he will be a KP player although if he fills out he could be one day. Despite what you think he is not all that good at ground level (at least not compared with others who will be available) and growing is not going to help that.

Sorry mate, wasn't trying to be a prick in my first post....People are forever telling me I'm too blunt, I guess I'll listen one day....

As for who to take at 23/28, I'm going to go with....

Sam Frost@23- Firstly I think he'll be available, and secondly I just have a gut feel a KPD is something we're keen on given Glass' age (his versatility is another appealing factor and bonus). He's big, strong and very athletic. Like most good defenders (players in general really) he is very competitive and wins or neutralises most contests he's in. Has presence in the back line and given his good judgement and ability to leap high and early, is able to spoil or mark incoming high balls well and send it back. Kicking looks awkward-ish, but solid enough most of the time.

I have a feeling Lockyer will be taken by Freo at 20. But even if he's available I'd probably still want Frost.

Murray Newman@28- Everyone here knows about him.

Ok time change tact we went tall last year except for Gaff (Darling, Lycett, Mcgovern, Hamp)

so I'll go Nelson and Newman

With Glass having to be managed through the pre season with groin soreness which I think he had problem with during the season it's hard to see him going past next year or even finishing it.

Will draft a key back with one of our picks and hopefully Newman with the other. Seems like a good kid with huge upside.

How many rookie picks do we have ? Go for a Silvagni type like the Dockers did in the rookie draft. We pick players like Broome and others that don't make it while other teams pick mature age ready to play players. Surely there is someone who dominates the state comps who hasn't been picked up. Who cares where he plays you never know what could happen.

There's a VFL KPB who's been in the team of the year a few years in a row, can't remember his name - 25/6yrs old could possibly rookie just as back up. It will be interesting to see if clubs take a couple of more mature rookies as standby's just in case of injuries.

Would be cool if we got someone like Duffy in the rookie draft. Unlikely to slide that far though you'd think.

Our rookie targets so far are Medhurst and Ryan Cook, it appears.

See that's the kind of player we should be after Prem. It's a no risk situation. I like the fact we had a crack at JON. Worth nothing and he was capable of great things but wasn't to be.

Why look at Medhurst and Cook. Wouldn't mind Medhurst but Cook ? Why would we want him ? Free also got De Boar in the rookie draft didn't they ? Tbh they are very good mature age drafters.

A lot of things in this post confuse me!

First of all you say we should go for 'no risk' picks in the rookie draft, but then you applaud us for taking a punt on JON when he was a risk in that he was never likely to make it.

Cook would be in contention because he was excellent at WAFL level all year. He'd be a better pick-up than Medhurst, who has been out of the game for a year.

And De Boer wasn't a mature age selection as such, just one year after he could have been drafted as he opted out the first time around.

I didn't say we should go for a no risk selection I said it is a no risk selection. No matter what you do it's alright because there is no risk involved. It's a rookie list for a reason. A list where you can develop young kids or take a punt on mature players.

But did they pick him up in the rookie draft ? If so its a good selection and when I think back I can't think of many good rookie listed players on our list.*

Priddis the last one. If we could nab a Priddis or Cox every year or 2 in the rookie draft we'd be laughing.

Jarrod Dalton I think you are referring to & good call :thumbsu:

Here is an article on him :-

Dalton Eyes AFL Call-Up

Turns 26 on the 3rd January, 193cm & 92 kgs

VFL Full Back of the year 2 years in a row. There are a few AFL clubs looking at him which does not surprise.

Today's newspaper article backs up what I have been saying on Murray Newman he's a lock for one of our picks.

If lockyer's gone by 23 already then wce will jump on newman at 23.

Then I wouldn't be surprised to see us pick up Manson or even a Elliot Yeo who wce seem to be interested in as well.

Gilligan will be our first rookie pick.

Duffy's pretty ordinary when not in the game, Im not sure i would waste a pick on him.

Medhurst looks to be our last rookie pick up.

Would be absolutely stoked to walk away with Lockyer, Newman and Gilligan.

Really hoping Freo don't take Lockyer with 20, can see it happening unless there's a slider for them..

Where do you see Turnbridge going? Do we expect him to last to our second pick in the rookie draft?

Tunbridge will be a rookie pick.

Elliot Yeo has some strong supporters in wce recruitment team, I wouldn't be surprised if we picked him up at 28.

From an athletic standpoint, Yeo looks awesome. I read he equalled Naitanui's draft camp leap and won the agility this year. Not bad when you're 188cm.

Looks like he was also equal 2nd in that kicking efficiency test, with 6 others. Not too shabby at all.

Been a fan of Yeo's for a while now, have previously posted asking whether he'd by any chance last to the PSD/rookie draft but gotten no answers:(.
In your opinion, is there a chance of him sliding this far and if not, would we be prepared to select him over a Newman/ Lockyer with 28.

Also, any interest shown in Schade? Must admit I've only seen highlights but the most impressive of all the KPD imo. Pace, skill and strong defensivly. A perfect CHB/third tall.
