We all know that there are a few (me not included) who keep their ear to the ground regarding the form of a lot of the up-and-comers in the u/18s, sanfl and wafl, and track it pretty closely.

We also know that a lot of uneducated bullshit gets flung around by people who have heard someone else's opinions and maybe watched a bit of youtube.

SO, for a little bit of fun and the opportunity to earn some respect from your fellow BF posters - let's see everyone's predictions for at least the top 6 draft positions (where us Carlton people should have most interest).

Feel free to do a bit of research prior to November 28.

In particular, I'm very interested to hear the thoughts of Gilly and Jeremias.

I'll get the ball rolling:

1.Watts
2.Rich
3.Naitanui
4.Hartlett
5.Hurley
6.Ziebell

Don't be shy now. :)

Sorry to disappoint, but mock drafts are either for the very brave or the very stupid....mugs game, you can't win ;).

not sure any picks are lock-ins just yet. If I were to have a dip it would at least be after the TAC finals and Draft Camp (and possibly even trade week) ;)

You change your mind on a daily basis Gilly, so i'd imagine you'd have a real struggle putting your mock draft together. :)

Still having trouble separating mock drafts from best available lists mate? ;):p

The top 10 is more of a guessing game in many ways.

1. Watts - Assuming he nominates
Melbourne need players in all positions but a key forward of this potential is a rare. I think there will be more bargain midfielders and rucks later in the draft. If they get Warnock then a key forward is even more likely.
2. Rich - Cox + Seaby gives them plenty of depth in the rucks (forgot the rookie listed ruck). They need to refresh their midfield (kerr gone?) so Rich is a given.
3. NickNat - Losing Warnock could be a problem so NickNat + Bradley could be two pinch hitting rucks that float forward. Cult hero and a local boy.
4. Vickory - This is my tip for a bolter, they need someone to replace Lade. Vickory looks likely to be the pick of the bunch here.
5. Hurley - I think the bombers need to replace their defensive stocks and Hurley is almost as good as it comes at the moment in defence.
6. Ziebell - I personally think we will recruit the best available player left, Ziebell is your man. He is a clearance machine and will complement the Simpson, Houlihan and Stevens types. It may also free up Judd in later years.
7. Hartlett - Once again, I think you should draft the best avaible player and Hartlett should be the right person. Very versitle and could be a jack of all trades.
8. Trengrove - Richo is not getting much younger and I think they could use a forward. (This is another potential bolter, in some peoples eyes)
9. McKernan - Maybe a replacement of the again Micky O...
10. Yarren - At the start of the year I thought this guy would be close to the top 5, some people see him slipping lower. I just picture this guy sitting in the forward line with Volt, Kosi and Milne and being a dangerous forward line.

This all could be way off the mark. The main player that will change the order are Hurley and Vickory in my eyes.
Will Port pick Vickory or their local boy?
Will the bombers pick up Hurley or Ziebell?

If he ladder stays as is, I can see it panning out like this:

#1 Melbourne - Daniel Rich

#2 West Coast - Hamish Hartlett

#3 Fremantle - Nicholas Natanui

#4 Port Adelaide - Tyrone Vickery

#5 Essendon - Michael Hurley

#6 Carlton - Jack Ziebell

#7 Brisbane – Tom Swift

#8 Richmond – Sam Blease

#9 Collingwood - Steele Sidebottom

#10 North Melbourne – Shaun McKernan

#11 Sydney – Steven Hill

#12 Adelaide – Nick Suban

#13 St. Kilda – Nick Heyne

#14 Western Bulldogs -Ayce Cordy

#15 Hawthorn – Lewis Johnson

#16 Geelong – Jackson Trengrove

PP #17 Melbourne – David Zaharakis

PP #18 West Coast - Chris Yarran

#19 Melbourne– Jordan Lisle

#20 West Coast– Clancee Pearce

#21 Fremantle - Michael Walters

#22Port Adelaide– Rhyce O’Keefe

#23 Essendon– “token soft aboriginal flanker”

#24 Carlton- Jack Watts

Melbourne - Watts
WCE - Rich
Freo - Natanui
Port - Hurley
Essendon - Hartlett/Ziebell
Carlton - Hartlett/Ziebell

Melbourne will take Watts if he nominates, and he probably will for fears of moving interstate in 09.

WCE will take Rich, no question about that at all.

Freo probably doesn't need Naitanui at this moment in time, but he is probably the best available and is WA boy.

Port is the most difficult pick. If i was them i'd want a good strong FB/CHB to go with Carlisle, their midfield isn't a worry atm with Boak, Salopek, Cornes and Burgoynes. But you can never have too many midfielders - Hartlett is also from SA so that is enticing. The Port pick will decide the next 2 picks.

Essendon will take Hurley if they can, but chances are Port will snag him first. If Hurly is unavailable, i think they will go with Hartlett. They need a standard elite midfielder ala Judd etc. Ziebell is more around the ground. They already have Reimers for that kind of work.

We are lucky to have pick #6 in this draft. After that the quality drops off a bit more. Any one of Hurley/Ziebell/Hartlett i will be happy, but if i had to put money on it id say we'd end up with Ziebell.

This seems to be the common theme in the top 2 but i am not convinced either pick are as simple as people make it out to be. Personally i had the same feeling a month ago, Watts 1, Rich 2, both fairly locked in but right i believe it's up in the air some what.

Anyone of Rich, Naitanui, Watts or even Vickery could potentially go number 1. Either Naitanui or Rich will go at number 2 and the Dockers will take one of the WA boys if available, if not, i believe it's up in the air with my favourites being Ziebell or Watts.

Watts hasn't been in sparkling form the last few weeks and is far from the safest pick in the draft IMO, he could still be a chance to slide

Id also just like to add that whoever we take > whoever we dont.

That's just crazy talk. No way known the player we haven't taken yet but probably will is a better all-round prospect than the kid we will doubtless overlook. Far too early to tell. Some people...........

I agree its a grey area, but you have to look at what the teams need. Melbourne need forwards, and they need a marquee player. A #1 pick is going to attract attention regardless of their playing style/attributres. No matter who they draft they will get extra members just from having that player on their list. Why not kill two birds with one stone and draft a forward?

WCE, if they lose Kerr, will have a very, very shit midfield. Rich is an amazing midfielder - problem solved.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the Dees take Rich. Surer bet, and then take some KPP's in the teens.

Last thing you want to do before the lockout is stuff the number 1. Rich might be seen as a safer bet.

Will be interesting to watch.

I'd agree, I can't see Watts going number one. My tip is Melbourne will get Natanui with pick 1. On pure raw talent alone he offers alot more.
