Review Draft Review

I dare say Dayne Beams leaving completely changed our draft selections. I'm sure if he had of stayed we may have taken a chance on a Laverde or Cockatoo early but we just played it safe.

I'm a little meh about the whole thing but trust what the club is doing. This is what happens with weeks of hype on BF prior to the draft, It's difficult to come out feeling like you've smashed it.

I think also the somewhat novelty of Moore has died of and we don't associate him with this draft. When you look at De Goey, Moore and Maynard that's a good result, albeit somewhat safe.

Add Greenwood, Crisp, Freeman, Karnezis, Scharenburg and Varcoe who are all yet to pull on a B&W jumper, it's looking pretty good for the next couple of years.
If he had stayed we wouldn't have had the early pick in the first place...

i had the impression they really rated him with Hawks and hence if they wanted him he had to go there or they would miss him.

That was the feel I had as well, but I don't know if I'd have advocated the same move for anyone other than those two clubs. At 23 it just feels so early for someone that hasn't gone through the traditional pathway...

I wasn't a big De Goey fan but starting to think we got a Gem, really happy with Maynard & Goodyear, good size mids with pace and style...overall really happy.

With Laverde, thinking take that one big mark out of the highlight reel, reckon we wouldn't be talking much about him. Langford is the one that will develop!

The coverage by Fox Footy drove me insane. During the picks in the 20's and 30's they'd be interviewing some guy and I'd have no idea who is going where. Save the interviews for when the draft is finished, Jesus Christ.

You should of pressed the Red Button as you just would of seen the Picks

Any experts out there keen to put together a team list of our under ~22-23 team, so we can get a feel for what we will have running around for us in a couple years time?

If someone could post Knightmare opinion on the 3 draftees in the OP or somewhere that'd be great

If you want my views you might want to check out this thread which is a yearly favourite of mine:

The basics are that none of the guys we took are guys I would have picked (other than Moore). All were taken in roughly the range they were expected to go. I expected more outside pace than we went for which surprised me.

De Goey while I didn't have him in my top group this year I think can be a 200 gamer and a very good mid/fwd.

Maynard is a chance to make it given the contested side to his game and his sometimes bullet like kick but endurance will need to improve.

Goodyear against the odds to make it but not terrible either as a hard mid who can win it and has some pace, he just for me lacks composure and really needs to improve his disposal efficiency and feel less rushed before I look at him and say "we've got something".

Meanwhile, over at Filth Park, things might be a little bit awkward between the coach and his new first round pick...

Cockatoo at 5 after he played ONE game for the year?

I'm happy with our first 2 picks, think they will be good long term players and Goodyear fills a need.

De Goey will play 200 games

Some people on this board wanted Lever who hadn't played a game at all.

Goes ok but will get smashed by GC and GWS.

75 Pass - Disappointing!

Agreed - McKenzie as a project would have been nice for that pick. Not likely to find someone with more potential (6'5", quick, very good hands for his size, good leap) in the rookie draft. A real head-scratcher to be honest.

Everyone's a genius in hindsight, but it would have been nice to have the 4th rounder we traded to the Lions in the Beams "deal" in our possession after the way the picks unfolded tonight.

I would been Intrested too why we passed on him. Guess Hine likes Gault

Well duh - they've both only had like eleventy-seven first round picks in the past five years. Let's hope they do a better job with them than Carlton has with the 17 first round picks they have on their list eh...

I think we have picked some really good players.
De Goey
Moore
Maynard
Goodyear

We got two good midfielders, De Goey and Maynard could play first round. Goodyear's highlights look pretty good.
McKenzie was overlooked by a lot of clubs, has to be a reason behind it.
Laverde also slipped for a reason, many clubs had the chance to take him but didn't.
De Goey likened to Jack Ziebell/ Bartel
Maynard likened to Jordan Lewis
The key was that Hine read out every player immediately with no hesitation.

That was kind of my point...

I'm pleased overall but I must admit I was slightly underwhelmed at the start.

Stoked about Darcy Moore at pick 9 and I'm starting to really come around with De Goey, and Maynard at pick 30 impressed me based on his highlights reel especially with his aggression, kicking penetration and his tackling.

The only concern for me is Matthew Goodyear because of poor kicking efficiency but if Hine and his colleagues thinks he's worth it then I'm happy as well. However it would have been great to get Tom Langdon's younger brother Ed who ended up going to Fremantle at pick 54.
