I have always felt sorry for the Franklin that Hawthorn called out wrong in Buddy's draft year, as there was some poor kid who for a second thought he got drafted only for it to be pulled away from him seconds later.

Because it was knocked back 3 weeks ago when Brockman was also part of the offer. If they didn't take it back then, I highly doubt they would accept it now after trading for Brockman.

Brockman had no trade value to West Coast because they could have just walked him to the PSD. Hawthorn aren't stupid enough to have thought he increased the trade value of an offer.

Luke Franklin definitely did not think he'd been drafted at 5 by Hawthorn - They never said the wrong name, they read out the wrong registration number, and I don't see why Luke Franklin would've memorised his draft registration number.

Brockman had no trade value to West Coast because they could have just walked him to the PSD. Hawthorn aren't stupid enough to have thought he increased the trade value of an offer.

He obviously had some trade value as he was traded for pick 44 and 63. May not be much but it’s still of some value. West coast were never going to take a deal before draft night. Hold out as long as possible, the only team that can trump hawthorns offer is north. If north pony up 2&3 or 2 and future first, west coast take that. If not take our deal with the brockman pick sent to them aswell

Collingwood want him at 19 and Saints at 21

The only reason we refused it was we probably want McKercher if we can't have Reid. 3(4) doesn't guarantee it unfortunately.

Would be a bizarre selection considering we are likely to have George and Duursma in the door inside of 2 drafts.

If I was a potential draftee I would have memorised the number as it would mean knowing you had been drafted a few seconds earlier.

Luke Franklin wasn't a potential draftee - He was just eligible because he'd played some games in an eligible league. He absolutely wouldn't have, for even one second, considered himself a draft candidate.

And even if he thought he could be a late rookie pick, he'd know that he couldn't possibly be getting drafted at 5th overall.

But mostly he wouldn't have thought about it, like some random ammos player who gets called up for one VFL game and is therefore technically draft eligible wouldn't be memorising their draft number and hanging on every word from recruiters from pick 1 on.
