People say this every year, and it never happens.
This year is a bit different.
The 2 gold coast kids and Annanble would probably be the 3 players Richmond would want if they were available on the open craft. They'd be wrapped if they weren't matched.
They should absolutely bid on them not out of spite but because that is who they want.
Dean isn't too far from that mark either.

I think Westcoast have needs everywhere and primarily just need top talent. They can use 13 which might get upgraded to 9 or 11 via trade to grab a mid.

For all the talk of Duursma being a utility Westcoast will absolutely try develop him as a mid. If they didn't see him as a capable fulltime onballer at afl level, they probably don't pick him 1.
Yep maybe Ideal Scenario is Eagles go

1 CDT - Eagles
2 Sharp - Eagles get the mid (bid on Annable)
3 - X Taylor - Tigers (bid on Patterson and Uwland)
4 Grilj - Tigers
5 Duursma - EFC
6 Robey - efc

Maybe, only question is from a wce position are you neglecting the main issue- the midfield. Duursma is great so he has to go 1, but taking the tall over a mid when your midfield is being belted? It's why I can see you keeping 2 but going Sharp. He'd suit your side to a tee. Get Reid some help in there, I know Hewett is there, but surely you need a prime mid in the top tier, unless you are planning on trading that 13 up the order, but where? Surely it's for a Cumming, or someone like that.
No way WC or any team is taking Sharp that high. Ideally we'd probably like two mids, but the potential of what CDT could be looks too good to overlook imo, especially with the lack of elite looking mids at the top outside Duursma.

The addition of Sharp to the team next year is unlikely to change our midfield fortunes in any meaningful way, going by his SANFL performances, so I'd be happy with Duursma and CDT at 1 and 2.

Cumming won't get past Essendon. He might not even get past Richmond, though that would require them passing on one of CDT and Robey.
One of the media drafts last week had the Giants getting Cumming.
That would be great. Unlikely but great.

I think the big difference now, is you can actually wipe valuable picks off the board by bidding with the DVI being steeper.

Can advatage your club and stop matching clubs getting more of an unfair advantage.

Under the old rules all you achieved by bidding, was potentially getting another club offside.

Why not do it now? Im assuming you mean with Carlton

Carl will wait to see where a bid comes before swapping surely. They may get lucky and a bid comes after 9, so why trade it when they can use it.

Well, we'll see when the draft rolls around. If it does, I concede the point. If it doesn't, I'm sure next year someone will claim the same thing is finally going to happen.

Given the 12 invited to AFL draft night (predicted top 10) he is one that is in calculations.

there is also the off chance that phillipou could be off the board already.
would be good to have up their sleeve if a bid happens from Tigers/ess/dees.

I think the problem for us is that we need to be in that top echelon of players. Once we get down to Melbourne's picks, you're not really getting anyone projected to be better than what you would get at 13. There have been reports of West Coast wanting a third top 10 pick though so I wonder who we're looking at.
On Gettable they were spitballing would WC & Ess trade picks 2 & 13 for 5 & 6 that would be a fair pick swap i reckon for both clubs needs

They are better holding firm and if they have to match with 9 just do it and take 11 to the next best. Why on earth are people expecting Carlton to trade for significantly less. The Adelaide deal is a shocker for them. They’d blow up headquarters if they accepted that.

I think were all living in a bit of fairly land if we dont expect a bid on Dean before 9

Essendon will want to try and push that 11 out past suns 15,18 or our 21 if we keep it

I think if they can get a mid to late F1 and an early F2 along with some points for this year then thats probably a good outcome for them

Not alot looking to trade in

Crows, Pies, Saints only ones mentioned of F1s. Crows trade seems to have cooled as doesnt really work, Pies and saints make it far more difficult in luring Butters/King probably in this case

I doubt Carlton expect to be able to use pick 9.

I think delaying the trade as long as possible just gives Carlton more certainty on what they need to match their bids. And also more clarity to the trading club on exactly which players will be available for them to draft. In the best interests of both parties.

I wonder what Hawks do with 10?

They would obviously have liked to add mature talent this year, hence Merrett. Now theyve missed out do they grab a kid who can contribute to a flag push straight away or trade into 2026, in the hope of going hard at Butters/Humphrey/Merrett?

Talk of them trying to trade out into next years, id say for one of those 3

If they cant then there isnt really a fast fix kid that helps them at 10. I think they will just look to add the best non tall talent

Farrow
Grlj
O.Taylor
Phillipou

Probs a rough order for their pick 10 id say

Most of these 4 have seniors experience and csn have an impact next year, but hawks are a depthy side so hard to break into straught away

My guess is we'll just take best available with a leaning to an outside player

Ideal if you arent the Eagles.

Duursma is going West
Just take Sharp at 2 and be done with it
Upgrade 13 and land Schubert

A clear #1 utility and running transition player

The highest rated inside mid with leadership qualities.

The highest rated KP forward to team up with Shanahan.

I think we want to trade out 11 for a future first. Might need to be a third rounder included also for extra points.
Trading pick #11 that will probably become #16/#17 in a compromised draft for a pick in 1st in 2026 is going to be difficult
especially if you also want something back this year.

I can see Richmond passing on CDT, they did take a few talls last year. Have a feeling if WCE don't take him, could be the weird slider no one expected. Richmond to take Robey and then one of Taylor/Grij/Sharp/Cumming, not sure on the Sharp to Rich though have a few sort of similar types however might just be so far ahead in 'best available' you just take him
If CDT is still on the board at Richmonds selection then Richmond will select him i have no doubt as you dont pass up talent for needs when drafting and he would be rated top 4 no doubt. Only way he gets passed Richmond is if we get an offer to trade back from Bombers , Melbourne or Hawks at #10 and something nice coming along with that pick
