I agree. Been my preference from early on of the hypothesized trades.

Should give us a pick of one of Lindsay, Schubert, Grlj, Cumming, Dovaston who would all fit a need.

Dont think as many of those guys are heavily rated top 6 like 4 of the prospects this year but alot can change as seen by Deans move in and Mcguanes serious move out

Walker obviously is, Robinson maybe is but hes also a man child so be interesting if he starts falling away a bit

Think the so called strenght of the draft compared to this one, is in play, but also with the 2 picks for 1 player the picks like F1s may come in a spot more often

Ie Crows have pick 12 next year, blues use pick 6 and 11 to match C.Walker bid 2, then 12 comes into 11

So on the surface as long as they can get Dean and Ison this year, they want future 1sts to prepare for the walker bid

Your right but i dont see it at the moment outside of C.Walker and big maybe in L.Robinson

Next draft is the last before Tassie comes in and guts it. Not sure how many clubs will be keen to trade out of the 1st round in 2026.

Need to find a club expecting a late 1st round bid on their FS or academy kid who can pay with early 2nds.

But they will make Carlton or any club pay overs for it.

Teams can still take draft deficits in to the following years draft.

Carlton don't NEED to trade in another 2026 first round pick. Not if they can take a deficit into the 2027 draft on their first round pick. And they hold Sydney's 2027 first round pick as well.

And there's no guarantee that they'll be able to trade up for sufficient points next year either, with Sydney's and Adelaide's picks.

I don't know what Carlton want from this draft. Do they want a third player? I'd take the chance that no team is going to bid super early on Dean, and that their pick 11 doesn't slide back much past pick 15. All Carlton have to do is put out their own rumour that if the bid comes too ealry on Dean, they are going to pass as they value the two kids they might get at 9 and 11 higher.

Heck they could pass on Dean, pick a kid at 9, still split 11 and get Thredgold with one pick and match Ison with another, if they really want him, and maybe get another kid as well.

Walker a NGA player for Richmond and they love him and most likely will finish last in 2026 and 100% will be bidding on Walker so the cost is going to be very high

Anyway, people are severely overating Sam Cumming as a midfielder. Doesn't get much of it at all. Very good medium sized frwd though. AA frwd.

I would prefer not to trade out our F1 as this will be the last draft before Tasmania and there's Nicks "Temu Hinkley" so I can see us just missing out on the 8 and Nicks getting the sacked.

The issue for Carlton is no one wants to trade out of the 1st round next year. Everyone saw the new cost of trading in players throughout the trade period (multiple years in advance 1st rounders), along with the thought 2026 is a stronger draft.

Adelaide may be the only ones considering it, its a decent draft for SA based lads, so we may bite. On face value the deal doesn't sound great for Carlton, however consider the options below.

Dean very likely goes top 5-6 in this draft. He's an excellent prospect, all clubs would love to have him. (I think Richmond bid)

Carlton fans can decide what they would prefer once the bid comes.

Dean + Ison + Pick 20 odd this year (if they don't trade either or both of 9 or 11 before a bid, they both get swallowed up to some degree)

or

Dean + Ison + Crows 1st 2026 (assist with drafting Cody Walker next year, who's a star & Top 3 talent). If Adelaide slide in 2026 its a better result again.

There may be other lesser picks swapped also, but that's the crux of it.


I can see why Carlton are possibly looking at this option, if the bid comes earlier from WC, it's a no brainer. Carlton need multiple deals up their sleeve on the night for all scenarios regarding the Dean bid, this may be only one of many.

The deal mooted doesn't sound like a win, but in reality, not the worst result to offset an early bid. Of course if the bid is later say via Melb, Carlton have better options, including holding their current hand.

As mentioned by Cal Twomey, this deal will likley only happen on draft night. In my opinion is entirely dependent on a very early Dean bid.

Experienced draft watchers on the Eagles site rate Cumming highly and would be happy using 2 on him.

Don't think there ends up being any trades in the top 8 no matter how much I want someone to pay a truck load to draft CDT at 2. Hopefully Essendon trip over their own balls and throw us an offer we can't refuse but even they're not that dumb. I feel like its a pretty slow draft for live trading outside of Carlton, Gold Coast and Brisbane possibly splitting their picks.

It's not like there aren't any father son or academy kids in next years draft.

There could be anywhere from 4 to 7 or 8 club tied kids in the first round.

Cody Walker tied to Carlton.
Lucas Robinson tied to Freo.
Tanner Armstrong tied to Richmond.
Aidan McCartney tied to both North & Sydney.
Caylen Murray tied to Brisbane.
Ethan Matthews tied to GWS.

Then there's Dougie Cochrane who might be approved to Port.

So there's every chance Adelaide's F1 is just as poor or worse, than this years first round pick.

So there definitely needs to be a fair bit added by Adelaide in any pick swap with Carlton.

Then there's potentially 4 to 8 more club tied players that are second or third round prospects.

Adelaide's F2 could well be in to the 40's when we factor in compensation picks in to next years draft as well

It just doesn't make sense for Adelaide.

Those clubs looking for firsts next year for points will find it Incredibly hard to get one.

Has any club other than Adelaide put one on the table?

Picks in this year's draft are valued very low, and next year they're much more valuable.

Adelaide is not trading out of next year's draft for peanuts.

That F1 is too valuable, I think. Not worth it just to move up a few spots late in the first round of a bad draft.

You haven't provided any reason for Carlton to trade the pick. I've already explained that Carlton can match any bid on Cody Walker with their two first round picks in 2026 and take a deficit in to 2027.

What is more valuable, pick 12 in this draft or the better of Carlton's and Sydney's first round picks in 2027?

If Carlton finish 11th in 2027, their first round pick, right now, would stand at pick 15 due to all the Tasmanian concession picks. And this is a draft where all the Tasmanian kids can be prelisted by the new expansion team (Tassie won the Pool B U16 Championships this year, they have a few good kids for the 2027 draft). This is also a draft where Tassie will have access to prelist 17 year olds in 2026 from the 2027 draft crop.

I'm not sure if the Tassie mini-draft selections apply to the 2027 draft. (They have selections to be spread across 2 years).

Quite frankly Carltons picks in 2027 will be more valuable for what ever points they carry, rather than what ever talent might be left over.

I think they will be planning for pick 2 as the most likely situation

Cochrane is better and most of the time teams don't bid at 1

Pick 2 with 0% (Could still be a 10%)

Is picks 8 and 14 or 10 + 11

Blues would have to be a very strong chance to finish bottom 8

I wouldn't be upset about getting him. He can play 50/50 frwd/ mid if needed. I'm more on Hawthorn flicking 10+22 into next . If not , any of Farrow, NHH or Cumming would be good gets.
