Rumour Draft Rumours 2025

The only way we’re moving 2 is if we can get a good f1 or end the draft having used 3 picks in the top 10 of the open pool.

Agree Essendon’s f1 surely has to be involved if you move 2. If they love CDT so much it has to be involved. Think 6+f1 for 2 +f2/3 isn’t the worst one. I don’t see how giving WCE more picks in the 20’s using picks this year will entice WCE. Surely WCE recruiters have learnt from last years poor one

Apparently, West Coast are looking for an F1. It's not clear a) whether that is accurate, or b) where in the first round.
EFC F1 for pick 1 should be on the table. This could be a top 4 pick in a stronger draft.
EFC could also add 30 for a F3 to assist Eagles with Bid matching

EFC Bring in Duursma now, Eagles bank an extra F1 and can hit the draft hard again in 2026, plus could get points for academy players this year.

Dons get to develop Willem Duursma and work on pinching his brother from North in 2026.

I personally would do this. It is deeply unpopular on our board though.

I’d listen to it. The only way we move 1 imo is if it sees us with F1, 5 and 6 though. I just think the optics are awful for us trading 1, and the talent isn’t there like it would be in a normal year. If they started out by offering 5, 6, F1 for 1 and 13 I’d at least be picking up the phone.

From the Hun
Carlton currently holds picks 9 and 11 but is weighing up trading both selections as it looks to match bids on father-son Harry Dean and Next Generation Academy prospect Jack Ison. The Blues also have next year in mind, where they will need the points to match an expected top-two bid on another father-son prospect in Cody Walker. While any deals might not be done until draft night, West Coast is in the frame to grab pick 9 from Carlton in exchange for picks 13 and 34.
Such a deal would nudge the Eagles a touch higher up the board, while providing Carlton with a few more points for bid-matching purposes this year.

There have also been talks held with Adelaide, which is pondering trading a future first-round pick for Carlton’s pick 11.
It would leave the Crows with two first-round picks this year — at 11 and 16 — as this year’s minor premier’s look to make hay while the sun shines and push for a premiership in coming years.

AFL Phantom Draft: Who every club will pick in the first two rounds of the 2025 draft

Its not ideal for either party, plenty on the Bombers Board, don't want to trade out of our F1 as believe it could be a very early pick in a stronger draft.

It would leave the Eagles with 2 + 13 which is still a strong hand. Plus a great hand for next year.
In a proper rebuild you likely want to spread out your first rounders over a few years. Especially if this year is considered not as Elite.

I think it comes down solely to how much Essendon want Robey or CDT. I personally don’t see either sliding to 5 and 6. I think it is enormous cope from anyone that thinks it’s a possibility to get one of them, let alone both god forbid. West Coast and Richmond I don’t think would let it happen, it would be negligent to not squeeze the bombers for all their worth if they’re truly that keen on one of the two.

But then again, they might not be. Who knows. Not us.

What happens if bombers call the bluff - who do you want with your first two picks and who do you think richmond take with theirs, setting aside any bidding

Duursma, CDT, and Robey I see as being top 3 locks. I don’t think there’s any world where they slip past Richmond. I think Robey could go at 4 after Richmond try to get something out of Essendon, but if they call their bluff as you say I think they’ll just take him. They’ve put enough of a gap on the rest of the players to just be taken on highest ceiling.

The third part of the Jed Hagan (EF/WA 18's) rumour has come true. Will he be one of the first signed for Tasmania?

From The West Australian Newspaper - "WAFL 2025: East Fremantle forward Jed Hagan to play for inaugural Tasmania VFL side. East Fremantle forward Jed Hagan says the chance at living out his AFL dream was a major factor in becoming one of the first footballers to sign with Tasmania's VFL side for next season"

A few more pieces in the puzzle to go yet. Are Tassie on to a winner?

If Melbourne REALLY want Robey and Pickett we could offer our F1 and 7 OR 7, 8 and GC F1 for 2 and 13.
I'm interested in those trades but I do wonder how the club sees things. I feel like 7 as our second pick is little lower than where we want to be but from a value perspective, it's on the money.

Personally i believe the eagles want Sharp and he is their priority at pick #2
But believe Richmond wont take him and are looking for a bonus asset to trade down and take him at #5

Richmond have put out some info about Grlj & Taylor (which are only really linked to richmond)
But may be bluffing to get sharp through.

Will be good to see what happens

Would Eagles supporters be happy to trade pick 2 to Essendon if they knew Essendon was actually after Sharp not CDT?

Presuming that Richmond then take Robey at pick 3.

It sounded like from Twomey today that Essendon wanting to move up might not be just for CDT but could be for Sharp.

Is there more to this trade, just F1 and steak knives for pick 1?
As you say it could be a top 4 pick, it could also be pick 10 or 12 or although unlikely 18.
They also delay bringing in a quality player 12 months and slows their rebuild.
If it is just the above, there is no real upside for the Eagles. Unless it also includes one of Essendons early picks this year.

From the outside looking in, Grlj looks like he'd compliment Smillie & Lalor perfectly. I'd expect Richmond interest in him is real. That blend of speed & endurance is pretty rare and that's the way football is trending.

I read it as they’re trading up for CDT or Robey, given there’s never been any mention of Sharp to Richmond.

To answer your question, no. Any trade for 2 would be conditional on the club trading up to select CDT or Robey

Without a doubt his traits are whats required at Richmond but they are also required at most clubs
But my point is do you reach for need over talent ?

Richmond is in the 2nd year of our rebuild with probably another 3 drafts to go before we can confidently say we have completed the rebuild and have turned over 25-30 players.

Especially considering we have just about no players left to pay after the departures of
Riewoldt , Cotchin, Martin , Edwards , Grimes ,Graham , Pickett , Rioli , Baker , Bolton and will lose Lynch/Prestia in 12 months time

Richmond should always be drafting the best available Talent in the draft and trading for the needs of the list and targetting the needs as free agents with what looks like becoming the biggest available Cap space seen in the AFL end of 2026

I just thought it sounded like Sharp, the question about who will be Essendon's pick 5 & 6. Twomey said he would throw picks 5 & 6 at West Coast but knowing that it probably doesn't happen they should still try. Riley then said he would do it for both clubs and then asked for Cooper duff? Twomey said not 100% sure on that then mentioned their need for mids and named Robey, Sharp & Cumming in the next sentence before then going into some detail on Sharp.

So Richmond end up second last and end up with the 7th and 8th best players in the draft ?

If there was ever a situation perfect for Richmond to completely blow up this draft and force everyone to pay the maximum for all their NGA and father son players, this is it

Bidmond is gunna go CoCo bananas on draft night, and the draft is going to be exposed for the farce that it is

heaven forbid to think it isnt some part of a draft strategy to bid on players and put other clubs out

a farce woudl be being able to match with rubbish picks like prior years, matching first round bids with first round picks as is expected this year is hardly the farce it has been
