We could in theory change a Dean bid at pick 1 to a bid at pick 6 at the earliest by bidding on Uwland, Patterson and Annable.
I dont think pick 1 is realistic

Tigers could also turn pick 3 into pick 8

I dont see eagles being too dicky about bids early when they want to get a few of their own kids through this year and next

Duursma, CDT, XT, Robey, Sharp, Grlj, Cumming and then probably Schubert should really be the top 8 if Essendon and Melbourne aren’t total idiots.

After that Dovaston, Lindsay and Farrow should form the next selections 9-11 on talent in my view.

Marsh and Greeves I have sliding and there’s upside picks Barker, Phillipou and Oskar Taylor around this mark too.

I’d happily trade our later picks if it meant moving our third pick from the third group to the front of the second group, where I’d take Dovaston or a slider from the first group.

well... yeah? nosh? I was just saying that in my opinion that next group of players after Sharp and Cumming are pretty middling, and the likelihood of us trading up I would hope would be live in the event one of those 2 looks like they'll slide
I agree, that trading up ahead of time, for a top group slider doesnt make much sense.

I think if the Eagles go for 9, it'll be because they want their pick of the next group. Maybe there's 1 or 2 they like much more then the others. A slider would be a bonus.

Cant believe people actually think this type of blackmail happens
Sure there are things that do happen like the eagles wont bid on lions kids due to the trade they have done or other intangibles but i doubt the above happen.

There would need to be some dressing up of it of sorts
something like #13 + #34 + #51 +F3 for #9 + #41 + #54 + F4
Sydney did this to the Giants with Rowsten, and followed through if reports are true.

What makes you more qualified than Melbourne and Essendon recruiting/list manager team?

As far as we know:
33 main list
5 Cat As but expect Champion to change from Cat B to Cat A as well as addition of Robertson to make 6 Cat As minimum
1 Cat B (Champion) but expect Champion to move opening the 2 spots for Evans and Walley

I expect our draft strategy to be 13,34,41 for 9 and 54.

1-Duursma
2-CDT
9-Best available
Match Williams with 54, deficit if needed
Match Banfield for free or Cat A
Evans and Walley Cat B
Take pick 1 in the rookie draft
Add Robertson & McCrae Cat A via SSP
One spot for train on

Are you hoping Carlton do that deal because they think you will bid at 2? Otherwise im not sure they do it but it could work.
I suppose im interested in if Williams gets bid early (im not sure hes worth say 19-20 but this draft is spec at that stage so I can see someone doing it) would you rather pay more to match or let him go.
Is Hutchinson on the rookie list or the senior list? I cant work your exact list numbers out (I know we are short on list spots but thats different).

It will still cover it

They can cover a bid at 19 yes but then it wipes out the rest of their draft hand after that basically. Although I suppose if they think both walley and banfield get through to the rookie draft then that doesnt look too bad.

It would be more for a specific player they want. For example if sharp or farrow get past Melbourne I can see them doing it-or maybe for dovaston. Other guys not so much.

Not really I think it’s just a deal that works for both clubs. Points farming, then Blues can turn 13 into Adelaide’s F1 or however they want to go about it.

I would not match a bid on Williams before pick 34. Good player but incredibly overrated by journos who have simply looked at his combine results, got a boner and haven’t seen him play a single game in the flesh.

Hutch almost certainly still a Cat A rookie.

33 main list
4 Cat A
1 Cat B

Champion (Cat B) likely to be moved to Cat A. Robertson and pick 1 in the rookie draft likely to join him. This leaves a spot for Charlie Banfield and an SSP signing. One will be Cat A, the other (or Robertson) will be on the main list.

Evans and Walley are likely to be added as Cat Bs if not bid on.

Is true

Think swans were asking for Giants Future 1st to swap with ~pick 16, and maybe more

Cats pick 19 ends up 21 if theyre the bidders (assuming blues move both out, suns move 15 out)

650 points required

Lets say 34 and 41 moves into 29 and 34 = 840 pts

190 pts left over. They move back into pick 43

That likely comes in post Ess, Swan academy kids being matched id say

GC, Blues likely bank points up inside the top 40 that all get pushed back to the end of the draft post top bids

I’m truly sorry it’s come to this but history would suggest that they are…

You could conceivably argue that it is indeed a fact and not an opinion.

Melbourne won a flag through the draft

Dont think essendons drafting has necessarily been anything below afl avg

Melbourne had the best part of a decade to throw darts at the board, something had to stick but really they should have got more than one flag out of those drafts.

I think Essendon’s drafting post 2000 has been poor and there are multiple examples of this. I do accept there’s been a lack of insight by list management and the brass to realise where the club is at in terms of a flag window and this has compounded the problem.

Harry's Dad was on the Swan's list, played under Kinnear (who he did rate), and Buckenara (who he didn't) without notching an AFL/VFL game mostly due to injury, Phil Rowston also played under Les Parish, a known entity in the AFL at that time. Harry a bit of a jet as a junior and played quite a bit in front of Swans connections, which is to say Swans were more taken with Harry's quality + his connection to the club than them trying to one-up their derby rivals from what I understand.

You mean Schubert, the unco 197cm fwd with some of the worst foot skills youve ever seen? the guy literally has a hitch in his action

we were stiff with injuries in finals the next 2 years. and our inaccuracy in front of goal cost us.
