Draft rumours

This is when trades should be allowed on draft night. GWS could offer Melbourne significantly more assets on draft night (as opposed to trade week) if Petracca was available at pick 2.

Doesn't really work with AFL though because clubs putting players through medicals, can't trade a player and have a medical during the draft.

If Laverde is available I would say we would select him. Otherwise Duggan. Become a bit of a Duggan fan of late.

You guys have been into Langford for quite a while I hear.....if you don't at 8 then we might pick him at 14.

Word I heard was we were in to him at pick 15 not 8. I would be a bit pissed if we got him with 8. Doesn't look a top 10 talent to me.

Have to say - seems to be the most unpredictable draft in a long time. Most analysts now agree on the top 4 (orders may vary) and then it just completely goes all ways.

Some blokes who are top 5/6 in one go 15 in another.

Great for those clubs in the teens

I'm sure in 5 years time people will look back and talk about drafting failures - but i get the feeling their is a bit of luck to this one

I really rate McCartin but I just think the Saints will regret passing on Petracca. Would have the makings of a seriously formidable midfield with him in there.

Apparently Twomey sees Laverde slipping all the way to us at 14? Is that possible?
I would have thought GWS, Geelong West Coast & Richmond at least would be keen on him if he slips (I'm pretty sure someone, maybe Quayle said that they couldn't seem him getting past West Coast but I could be getting him and De Goey mixed up).

I think the fans may a little next year when Petracca plays more games, though that will be more to do with the positions they play.

I just think the the draft is so even that teams will priortise which hole they need to fill most a little. In the Saints case they may see it as more beneficial to get a top quality key forward who can have at least two years being mentored by Riewoldt over a midfielder, especially as there are likely to be a few good options available at 21 & 22..

It's a tough one, difficult to pass on a key forward. Either way I'm happy, we either get a very good young key forward or an absolute gun midfielder.

Yeah there will be a huge element of that. Will shit me to no end. We won't see much from Pat for a few years whereas Petracca will be impacting from day dot I imagine as a high half forward/mid.

You guys will have a stupid amount of serious midfield talent. If you can't develop that then ill fall off my chair.

Top shelf mids far easier to find than top shelf KPF's.

I'd be taking the big guy every time.

Top shelf mids a far safer prospect than a top shelf KPF prospect too. Especially one that has diabetes. Petracca is not your dime a dozen midfield talent. Best available goes pick 1. Petracca IMO is best available.

Just my opinion. I am sure the Saints team know a shit ton more than I do.
