Prediction Draft rumours

At least he has the balls to admit it if that's the case. Every other player will keep it hidden for fear of not getting drafted at all. Or waste some clubs time when it comes out two years later and the player wants to head home where all the support is. Could slide a bit, but it won't stop anyone, even interstate teams taking a punt as you said. Every player is fair game in the draft.
I’ve said this for years. At the moment the AFLs draft tampering rules encourage draftees to lie. If I’m GC say, I would prefer Rankine to tell me the truth if he is planning to head back to SA in 2 years so I don’t waste the pick.
It would be a huge gamble for any non Vic side to take Smith now.

BTW sliding contracts from pick 1 down for the first round would fix this issue. If a kid was going to get 200k more per year by going at pick 2, they would suddenly be really happy to get drafted by GC.

If it's true then all clubs would be wary I think. It's not a positive sign.

The player really shouldn't nominate for the draft if they're not able to meet their obligations under it.

Not sure if this has been posted, but:
The Western Bulldogs shape to be the first club to leverage the AFL's new live trading of draft picks with three clubs circling their first draft pick.

Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney are all keenly interested in the Dogs' first selection at pick seven.

It is highly unlikely that any of the clubs with the first six picks - Carlton, Gold Coast, St Kilda and Port - will trade their early selections, so the Dogs' pick shapes as an attractive, attainable, option.

The Bulldogs are believed to be keen on midfielder Bailey Smith while the clubs after them have other priorities.

Imagine the AFL if it was rankine coming up with an excuse like that to not leave SA..he would be banned from the draft that fast your mind would boggle. Lets see if anything at all is said about bailey smith and his 'condition' that prevents him from leaving victoria

You do realise Wingard did pretty much the same thing to GWS in his draft year.
OK he may not have pulled the 'mental health' line but he said he'd be likely to leave.

I have no problem with a player telling a club what he plans to do after his initial contract is honoured, however this is a player implying that he can’t medically fulfill his initial contract.
Don’t nominate for a draft in a national competition if that’s the case.

100% agree. Surely they have to sign something saying that they agree to go anywhere that they are drafted.
They have to.

We drafted Zac Langdon from WA last year as a 21yo with his partner diagnosed with a potentially life threatening illness and unable to relocate.

That's a tough choice, not this waaah I dont to leave home nonsense. It would only be the favoured few anyway, most are just hoping to get drafted.

I tend to agree, however its far more complex than that with mental health factors being understood more and more.

I just can’t understand GC taking rankine. He is a huge flight risk and I would say almost certain to go home in 2 years. Trade pick 3 to port for 5 and 15!

To pick up two potential flight risks?

Rankine seems a huge risk but at some stage you’ve just got to back your system in.

It's an excellent story. Langdon is an incredibly mature young man and has been a leader from the day he walked through the door.

HE HAD realised his boyhood dream.

Yet draft day for mature-age recruit Zac Langdon was “bittersweet”.

Despite all the obstacles the boy from Dampier had overcome to earn a spot on an AFL list, the thought of moving from one side of the country to the other was met with an overwhelming sense of anguish.

Langdon was now a Giant.

But the giant battle his partner, Eli Suleska, would have to overcome dwarfed his achievement. He’d beaten the odds getting drafted, but Suleska would have to beat cancer.

We spoke to O'Halloran and Butters from the Jets this week, whispers are that we've been trying to obtain another pick prior to a likely West bid and neither of those two players are in the discussion for pick 7. We also interviewed Ben King and Bailey Smith at WO this week). A few people (including media types) have suggested we have handshake agreements with Adelaide and St Kilda depending on who is picked in the top 10, noting live pick trading.

With live pick trading available after FS or NGA bidding, I'd expect we have a verbal agreement with WCE as well who may want to move up in the draft for Hill or Stack (u18 coaches rate him higher than BF does, perhaps clubs rate him high as well). We've traded well with WCE in the past and were the first two teams to swap picks (they helped us downgrade a second rounder to on trade for Ben Hudson, they got a higher 2nd round pick. Win/win trade).

We are interested in Woodcock from SA with a later pick and Ben Caverra from Willy, a kid from the VAFA who came second in the comp B&F (surname Scott). As a back-up we'd draft Hayes otherwise we'll rookie him.

They have limited list spots so trading down isn't as attractive as it would be to other clubs. A Qld poster on our board weeks ago (when Caldwell wasn't as highly rated on BF) suggested that GCS rate Caldwell as the 6th best in the draft, ditto Brissie who have no high picks.

If you're Gold Coast you have very few reasons to back your system in.
Literally any decent player they develop leaves.

So they should just give up?

Doesn’t seem a reasonable solution to me.

Get the right people to the club off the field and things can turn, often quickly.

It won’t be quick for the Suns but they won’t give up and nor should they.

Interesting. I'm assuming the St Kilda potential deal is a trade up to 4? Not St Kilda offering up future picks to get both Kings?

Do you think it more likely the Bulldogs trade up or down if the St Kilda deal is for pick 4?
