Prediction Draft rumours

If you're Gold Coast you have very few reasons to back your system in.
Literally any decent player they develop leaves.
We have completely changed all but 1 of the assistant coaches and brought in a lot more off field support like Shaun Hart as Welfare manager, obviously the club in chatting with Rankine/Lukosius and with the changes we have made are backing themselves in that they can keep them around. I'd rather have a crack at the best then pick up the 10th best player in the draft at 2 because we are sure they will still be at the club, we don't improve playing it safe.

It was thought taking McLuggage a couple of years ago, he would be straight out the Brisbane door but he has stuck around because Brisbane sorted their off field situation out. We have looked to do the same, we will wait and see.

No doubt you still have to pick the best player/fit for the club.
Realistically you guys should be picking best available, and if you can slide an existing relationship in there go for gold.

As much as I'd like Rankine, we know he aint getting to us anyway and I'd much prefer he plays for GC than Port.

If Smith's medical issues are mental health related and he prefer not to move interstate I don't see any problem with him letting people know. He still runs the risk of interstate clubs backing themselves in and picking him anyway.

Hmmm then again raises questions over his resilience and wonder if you would take the chance of drafting him high up the order as well!

You do realise Wingard did pretty much the same thing to GWS in his draft year.
OK he may not have pulled the 'mental health' line but he said he'd be likely to leave.

And he did! ;)

If I was GC and having concerns regarding retention, I would select Lukosius, Rozee and Hately.

The point is, right now just about every single player they select is a flight risk.

And it'll remain as such until they get things right, which they have made moves towards in recent years.

If they believe Rankine is the best player for them, they should pick him, regardless of where he is from.

I don't disagree with the above, but you can still mitigate risk

Interesting. I'm assuming the St Kilda potential deal is a trade up to 4? Not St Kilda offering up future picks to get both Kings?

Do you think it more likely the Bulldogs trade up or down if the St Kilda deal is for pick 4?
There is talk the board is split on who they want, one scenario on our board had a three way trade where Adelaide finish up with pick 4 and we get Adelaide's pick 8 and upgrade our pick 27.

I expect a lot will rest on where Rozee/Ben King fall, all clubs taking a 'wait and see' approach and have contingency plans in place as the night unfolds.

I think you're missing the point a bit. They have to go for the best player, as dies every club. You dont want them leaving after two years, but if necessary you back the club to extract value from the trade.

Easy to do as a Victorian club. Interstate clubs have to take risks and as a club if you took the 15th best player at 2 just because "he's no flight risk" you are silly. That's not winning games long-term

Adelaide would only do that of they want the player you plan on picking at 7.

In that instance the Bulldogs wouldn't do it.

If they dont want the player the Doggies want then there is no benefit to Adelaide

Rozee and Ben King have been mentioned, although I'm not sure how Rozee gets past GCS. You guys linked to both King brothers and Rozee so it really like one of the more open top tens in recent years.

So it's still top 10 tonight and the rest tomorrow?

So if you don't have a top 10 pick you probably won't tune in?

West Coast's pick 20 is the first selection on day 2.

In that scenario Adelaide end up with pick 4 so could take Rozee or Rankine if GC went Rozee. Do you mean StKilda would only do that if they wanted the player the dogs wanted at 8?

I agree that if the Saints are downgrading it's most likely for Smith who the dogs are apparently also keen on so can't see it happening unless we have 2 prospects (say Smith and Caldwell) that we are equally happy with.

I think it is first round tonight so I think it will go up to pick 20 or something.

Correct, the end of firsts compensation selections are the first selections on day 2. I guess they had to break it somewhere, this makes sense. Does mean there could be a million and 1 offers to West Coast for pick 20 overnight if there is a draft slider.

Not missing the point at all, I understand the machinations. Firstly I don't rate Rankine as highly as most, as well as being a greater flight risk than most draftees. If he was to request a trade, after 2 years, you will not extract a similar value in the trade

Not suggesting you taking the 15th best player, as the example I have used doesn't indicate that scenario

So it could look like this...
Seems pretty fair all-round and everyone gets what they want:

Adelaide
in: Pick 4 (Saints), Pick 27 (Bulldogs), Pick 32 (Bulldogs)
out: Pick 8, Pick 16 and Pick 21

St Kilda
in: Pick 7 (Bulldogs), Pick 21 (Adelaide)
out: Pick 4, Pick 36

Bulldogs
in: Pick 8 (Adelaide), Pick 16 (Adelaide), Pick 36 (St Kilda)
out: Pick 7, Pick 27 and Pick 32

At some point you have to back your systems, your welfare, etc. These recruiters spend months and years doing research, they know more than you and me combined. I disagree with you on Rankine, think he's the one that has STAR written over him

Rozee is the key - if he gets through the Dogs, Saints, Adelaide live-trade will happen

"Seems pretty fair all-round" Lol. Are you serious?

Our recruiting team would be sacked on the spot and be the laughing stock of the AFL.

As a Crows supporter I approve of this... would be one hell of a deal.

Gotta love how the dogs get a bigger pick upgrade despite having a poorer draft hand. Poster is having a laugh.

Can you even facilitate a 3 way trade on the night. Id assume you can only offer collateral that you hold? So if the crows were bidding on pick 4, I'm not sure they can offer the dogs picks. I could be wrong of course.
