Prediction Draft rumours

Why would the King boys be less of a flight risk, over Lukosius and Rozee?

Personally, if I was GC, I would draft Lukosius, Rozee and Hately
Because they want to play together and are brothers meaning it will help them settle better to be together. M king was very very highly rated and considered a no 1 pick before injury but is still considered in that top 3 with walsh and lukosius..i just can't believe the hate for these twins on this forum..they are top top players

Not down playing the talent of the King boys, but retention wise, most of the SA boys would fit the brief and I believe are better prospects

I’d be worried taking a guy top 3 off an ACL. I know medicine has improved but there is a huge risk the injury comes back.

Best available at 2,3- Lukosius and one of Rozee or Rankine. Simple.

Rankine has been just as clear about not wanting to leave SA and luko prefers to stay in SA but is resigned to moving...the kings are no more a flight risk than luko or rankine

The reality of recruiting is that there is a lot of guesswork involved. Psyche tests, family visits and interviews help but nobody knows as kids change so much.

Club culture, winning, interaction with team mates, ability to get a girlfriend all have a big bearing (if they have an established gf it can be a disaster). Most players say it takes at least 3 years to settle, which makes the 2 year contracts seem a bit short.

GC need to get their culture right, then need to start winning.

I think they need a combination of high end talent and strong character. If they got Lukosius, Rankine and Rozee it would be a good starting point to work from!

Or a combination of max and ben king and bailey smith would be just as good

It might throw a spanner in things if they didn't go with Walsh. It would possibly change the entire top 10.

Just would mean two mids at 2,3.

Won’t happen though Walsh is your surest slam dunk pick 1.

I agree , but I can't fault GC recruiters if they choose Lukosius, Rankine , Rozee/Caldwell . They spend at least a year visiting the kids and watch them plays . They collect more information .

If they are taking best available, they should take Lukosius imo, Sam Walsh could easily end up being another Murphy or Gibbs
How can you compare a KPP and Midfielder , both are best available in different position .

Most clubs pick best available with their first pick, then fix needs with the rest of the picks. To answer your point, a good bigman is more valuable than a good mid.

Fair enough . I actually prefer Rankine and Sam Wash at pick 2,3 As they are best available if Lukosius taken as pick 1.

That's not exactly a bad thing is it? Both still reasonable players. History says despite this being a 'super' draft, there will be failures littered throughout.

In isolation there might not be a difference in home home potential between the kings and luko/rankings.

However, the kings likely will need to spend a fair bit of time bulking up, recovering from injury and playing in the neafl. At the end of two years may have only played 10 games in the seniors. Rankine certainly straight in to the seniors and lukosius likely as well.

We can’t do anything about the baseline leaving risk but who plays seniors early presents a significant post draft influence on likelihood of leaving.

Yes true but un this draft i would be looking for the next superstar because there will be one.

I call bullshit, Rankine has publicly stated more than once that he's happy to move.

That is the reason we are looking to draft all the SA boys together, Luko and Rozee are tight, and are good mates with Charlie Ballard who already is on our list.

The King's have made it pretty clear they don't want to leave Victoria, as has Bailey Smith so I can't see us taking any of them.

I would be super deflated if we picked up the King brothers. Luko, Rozee and Rankine have all played some form of senior footy this year, so they already have some experience playing against grown men which should aid in fast tracking their development.
Same was said of Toumpas and aish

Then I cal bullshit on the king twins flight risk as they have not said they won't leave Victoria either

"I've started to get my head around [a move away] a little bit more, but I would rather stay in Melbourne with my family. But I'll go anywhere where I can play football."

Max was similarly philosophical, but suggested a move interstate would be more palatable if made with his brother.

"That's just a part of the draft that you could go interstate so whatever happens, happens," Max said.

"I guess if I was to go interstate I'd like to go with Ben, that'd be pretty good, but after the trade period all the picks will be shuffled around so it's hard to tell."

Now Izak Rankine

Dual Crows premiership coach Malcolm Blight has suggested Rankine would be a perfect fit for Adelaide.

“I’d rather stay in SA and play my football here but wherever I go I’ll go and I’ll just play my role,” Rankine said.

I think if Rankine ended up at a big interstate team he would be fine but at a fledgling club he is a bit of a risk. His talent is so difficult to ignore however. Maybe with a couple of mates with him he could settle but do think he craves the big stage.
