Prediction Draft rumours

I agree regarding Lukosius, as I rate him the best player in the draft, I also rate Smith and Caldwell better long term prospects over Walsh

As for finishing bottom 2 next year, think that is a tad premature
I was assuming GC were going to get worse...but maybe not

Would a club draft a player with a 1st rounder knowing they potentially can trade him for 2 1st rounders in a couple of years.

Doubt it, especially not GC they need players to stay or they’ll never climb up the ladder.

A higher club may take the risk of the player leaving as they’ll get a great pick back, but at the end of the day if the player is worth two first you’d rather they stay becouse they two players you pick up may not turn out as good.

What if they turn out like 2001 draft
pick 2 Luke ball , pick 3 Chris Judd .

I would still prefer Luke ball and Chris Judd rather than just Hodge alone .

Pick 8 Jimmy Bartel
Pick 24 Stevie J
Pick 36 Sam Mitchell
Pick 37 Leigh Montagna

Draft picks are speculative with no guarantee of a quality player.

You could ace the two picks and get players like you nominated, but how about if you drafted Riewoldt in 2001 to trade him away for picks 2 and 3 in the 2003 draft only to select Andrew Walker and Colin Sylvia.

If you draft a gun player, you want to keep a gun player not trade them for multiple picks in the hope of getting two gun players.

What I originally said was, Max was not a consensus #1 overall pick. The opinion of SOS does not change that, he's only one among many.

There doesnt need to be a consensus. Theres one pick 1 and SOS has it. This isnt Australian Idol whre all of Australia gets to decide who goes first pick by popular poll. Secondly, I appreciate all the draft watchers and the outstanding work they put in but they dont have the same yardsticks that list managers have. Medical reports, interviews with the kid and their family. Theres a lot that goes on behind the scenes that goes towards a prospects value. SOS and others early on rated Max as pick 1. Things change.

Also, it makes you look bad at how some of these number 1s have under achieved. Probably need to bank the safest one ;)

Sam Walsh itself is a draft pick , why other players are speculative and he is not , you are so discriminated against other players even before draft selection start .

I was responding to a statement about would you be happy to draft a guy to then trade them out two years time for two first rounders (assuming they turn out to be a star)

I’m not talking about Sam Walsh being a sure thing vs picks two and three who may not be.

You pick the best players and find a place to put them...that or trade out McKay

I think Curnow might end up being a mid anyway

That’s why Carlton are picking Walsh or Rankine. Best available

I won't be happy to trade a guy out after two year but if that is the best situation I would do it for two first round pick .

My point was you wouldn’t want to draft a player who you think would leave in two years, you draft a guy that would want to stay long term.
Would you think all club Recruiters purposely draft a player that would leave in two years after interview them and home visit ?

Of course not, but the question before was, would a club draft a guy to then trade them out for two firsts rounder in two years.
Depend on situation, if like Dayne beam , father sick yes .

What any of this has to do with the original point is a mystery. Six months ago SOS didn't have the #1 pick, so who cares?

Not if they see Walsh as a 15 year player and Lukoscius and Rankine as 2 year players.

That makes for somewhat of a difference.
GC don't wish to be playing this game of losing players for picks. It never wins out.

They are in a tough spot though of which way to go. Take the risk or sell out for something that may be more grounded.
They'd love Walsh and Walsh would love them should they find a way of doing so. Just can't se it happening though. (no rumours attached)
