Prediction Draft rumours

If I'm Gold Coast im taking as many top 20 picks in as I can get.
They don't need 1 gun player, they need as many as they can get.
Sums it up well.
Risk diversification more likely to land talent than looking at ways to overpay for the chance to move up and put all their eggs in one basket.
Talent and prospects don't fall away anywhere near as rapidly as the perceived value of the picks.

Kids have minimal input to a side in the first couple of years.

You don't pass up a kid at say pick 20, because you "need" a certain type and is ranked 5 places later in your rankings

You make allowances of course, for mature age types, such as a Kelly, Ryan
You have a point, but if you don't try to draft for needs you end up like Freo with the no forward line situation.

The idea propounded by our staff, among others, is draft for talent, trade for need. And that's what Freo did, eventually. Also didn't Freo draft Apeness as a key forward?

ALso Gold Coast could make it rain top 20 draft picks if they were smart. If I were them I would seriously consider trading picks 2 and 3 since the players in that range are not actually ideally suited to Gold Coast. They don't want Lukosius or Rainkine as there is too much of a go home factor and the King boys will not only take forever to develop, but because they are 200cm+ there is a massive question mark on if they will develop at all.

I think Gold Coast should be targetting tough midfielders, and all those players are in the 7 to 15 range in this draft.

Been told by someone involved pretty high up in the sanfl the crows are very confident of landing Lukosius on Thursday. No idea how.

Obviously a deal could fall through at any minute, though.
It would fit the script that apparently they have wanted him from a very long way out. It is also no coincidence that they have 3 x 1st round picks this year and I have no doubt they would sacrifice a few of them to get Lukosius. I wonder if 8 + 16 + 21 for 2 + 29 (or maybe 24) might be around the mark. Alternatively, 8 + 13 + 21 for 2 + 24 + 29...

The reason we moved Jarryd Lyons on was because we have a glut of tough inside mids like Swallow, Miller and Brodie to name a few. We need another tall forward which is Lukosius, and being considered a 'Nick Riewoldt' type which would suit us to the ground. We need some players with outside pace or some players that can go from inside to outside and play a flexible role.

You could also look towards Carlton, if you can get pick 1, then no need to deal with us.

The thing is Adelaide can really make this happen, they can ensure they get Lukosius, it is just a matter of what they are willing to give up. If they believe in Lukosius, and they really want him then they will find a way to make a deal happen as I firmly believe Gold Coast would be willing to deal if the price was good enough.

They also have a limited number of list spots, and there are only so many juniors you can blood at once. Unless they're keen on going back to 2011 levels.

To a degree but somewhere along the line you have to back your system in. Honest toilers only get you so far- we should know lately. You need class. I'd actually go Rozee not Rankine as it pairs up Lukosiuswith a mate of his. It isn't too fair a stretch to pick him at 3.

The thing is though that Gold Coast's midfield is terrible as Gold Coast were second last in 2018 for inside 50's.

Sure a player like Lukosius would be very helpful, but he is an icing player, one you go for when you have the fundamentals there already. Gold Coast need to load up on quality midfielders, they need to find a way to win their own ball more before they even consider going for a top quality forward.

Would have to be unbelievable overs. Port gave the equivalent of pick 1 to get up to pick 6...imagine what pick 2/3 will be. Would be selling the farm. Doubt the Crows will bother.

You take talls to develop, they lost both their key talls, getting in Lukosius helps replace one of them. They have picks 3 and 3 for mids.

The thing with Gold Coast is that they have multiple high picks so can afford to deal one of them for a good enough deal and still keep multiple high picks. Forget Carlton - they would want the earth for pick 1 and it is not ever going to happen. As a crows supporter the scenarios I put up are ones I could live with as 8 + 13 + 21 is a huge haul to part with but if it got say pick 2 and a couple of 2nd rounders then ok the crows have to pay up

If I were Gold Coast I would very much want Walsh, Smith, Rozee, Caldwell and Hately.

They are not getting Walsh, so Smith, Rozee, Caldwell and Hately should be their targets. Imagine if they got all 4, they would setup their midfield for the next 15 years with that group as all of them are going to make it, and hopefully 2 of them will be stars.

Good luck getting a couple of 2nd rounders back, GC aren't a charity. You want him that bad you will pay the extreme overs.

Except the talls are a risk. Look at the other recent key position draft picks in Boyd, Schache, Waitering, Patton and McCartin. They have not developed. Drafting key position inside the top 10 is always a bigger risk than drafting midifelders, and Gold Coast are not in a position to be taking risks this draft. They need to play it safe and make sure every player they draft stands a high chance of making it.

They aren't getting all 4 with the Bulldogs and Saints in there. They will get 2 of them whether they make a deal or not. They get the 2nd highest mid on the board (Walsh gone). Our dumb downgrading doesn't mean other clubs should follow suit. This isn't the time to give away pick 2- not unless they get extreme overs.

Every player is a risk, not just talls. We've sold our whole draft for one tall (not that I agree with this)! Playing safe isn't improving it, end of the day every club is there for one thing, to win premierships. Safe gets you the next Jordan Foote's.

That already was big overs. How in anyone's language is picks 8 + 13 + 21 for 2 + 24 & 29 no big overs in that hypothetical. Maybe then drop the pick 29 from the trade so it is 8 + 13 + 21 for 2 + 24. Tell me how many players in the history of the AFL have been traded for more than that..Not Treloar, dangerfield, Shiel, Neale, Beams, Hogan etc etc etc

Crows should offer 8, 13, 16, 21 and a future 1st for 2 and 3.

Lets be honest they are going to have to sell the farm to get Lukoscius and Rankine back in a couple of years. May as well do it now.
we can't - there was an article saying the crows along with some other clubs can't trade future picks this year as they have already traded out future picks
