My instinct is that no player would make that up. It puts them being drafted by anyone in jeopardy if its true and would be pretty blatantly found out if its false. Good luck to him if its a medical thing. Shame, I was sincerely hoping he would fall to our pick.

Honestly not surprised people think that. We get 0 coverage anywhere so as soon as people don't recognize a player people will usually dismiss them as awful.

I reckon Fiorini and Sexton are two of the biggest victims of this.

Agreed, the aroma coming off it is not pleasing...

I think that, worst case, it's probably a massive beat up. e.g. A Doctor saying that a player would have more difficulty than most adjusting to life away from family and friends. (quite possible if the player suffered from anxiety related mental illnesses). That's a long way short of what is suggested though.

Imagine the AFL if it was rankine coming up with an excuse like that to not leave SA..he would be banned from the draft that fast your mind would boggle. Lets see if anything at all is said about bailey smith and his 'condition' that prevents him from leaving victoria

I just can’t understand GC taking rankine. He is a huge flight risk and I would say almost certain to go home in 2 years. Trade pick 3 to port for 5 and 15!

If Smith's medical issues are mental health related and he prefer not to move interstate I don't see any problem with him letting people know. He still runs the risk of interstate clubs backing themselves in and picking him anyway.

At least he has the balls to admit it if that's the case. Every other player will keep it hidden for fear of not getting drafted at all. Or waste some clubs time when it comes out two years later and the player wants to head home where all the support is. Could slide a bit, but it won't stop anyone, even interstate teams taking a punt as you said. Every player is fair game in the draft.

Surprised that nobody has talked more about St Kilda’s proposed pick swap with Gold Coast, that would have seen GC move up to pick 4 and the Saints down to six, which the Suns rejected.

The surprising thing is that St Kilda initiated that discussion, which to me says that they’re looking at somebody that they feel would have been available a couple of picks later - is that really going to be Max King? I reckon it’s Bailey Smith or potentially even Caldwell.

Or maybe it’s a Journo making up bulls***, but they’d never do that would they?
