Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

No as a defender Beaumont was reasonable. Limited but reasonable.

What I am saying is that people tend to focus on the exception rather than the rule at draft time. Hughes is talked up for his six goal effort but one good game does not a player make.
Sure, but what good judges only rate him by that one game.

From memory he had a decent second half of the year, IIRC he bagged a couple against us, presented well........

I take your meaning with the "one good game" theory, but Cleve showed more than that last year, and as I said earlier.........that often more than what you would expect from a late pick.

Nothing much to lose wrt this years draft pool IMO. :thumbsu:

and I reckon playing him out of the goalsquare next to Fevola might be the shot in the arm he needs.
......if his fragile mental state is a product of seeing someone get hit by a tram, then maybe playing him too close to Fev isn't such a good idea...........the Ted Richards incident might have sent him into complete shutdown.....

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

all im going to say is that he was delisted from richmond
just think about it and guess my answer

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

Might be worth a PSD pick. The trouble is, the longer players have been stuck at the Richmond Hell Hole, the harder it is to repair the damage that basket case of an organization has done to the players development. Is it to late for Hughes? Line-ball call. :)

Parrot how can you give consideration to Hughes if you are going to give a flat out "No" to Shane Tuck?

Tuck is 10 times the player Hughes is.

You put a smile on the end of every post so it's hard to argue with you ;)

Hughes is relatively young and has (had?) "potential". Tuck's getting on, and won't get any better. He aint' fast, decision making is average, and kicking is poor. I could think of 10 other players on our list I'd prefer to see playing in the midfield. At CHF, the options are less. We have Setanta and Kruezer as tall CHF options, but lack a smaller marking KP forward, now that Fisher is out of favour. Not saying Hughes is the answer, but if we got him for a PSD pick who knows how he'll progress in a proper development environment. :)

I'll play.

So you feel that if Richmond......the model club for player developement can't get the best out of him then no-one could.

Fair enough.

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

Would have to be a better development option than Bentley/Edwards!!

I still wake in a cold sweat remembering the image of Bentley dropping the ball then crawling about on all fours looking for it!!

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

Absolutely worth it.

Hughes has shown that he has the talent to succeed at AFL level.

Apparently the Polak thing has shaken him up quite badly but I would think that seeing Polak back out on the park may ease that a little. Unless he has depression which is another matter, but if the club psychologists think he could turn it around, I see no reason why we wouldn't go for him.

I'd love to get him to the club as a rookie but I would think that other clubs may be interested in him as well, in which case a PSD pick or late ND pick may be needed, and I would not mind the club going down that path at all.

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

cleve has potential but will never eventuate, his main problems are

1 trick pony, lead mark kick.................no 2nd 3rd efforts
doesnt chase & doesnt tackle he is talented and thinks that will get him to where he wants to be.

biggest problem is his mental deamons, cant seem to be able to deal with them the polak thing is a recent example there were manymore before the accident.

he wont make it...................finished

Yeah because we have such a tremendous record at taking blokes from other clubs and turning them into gold?

Re: Serhat Temel - Worth a late pick?

I don't know how much crap gets around these days about the players coming through the tac, but i've watched players like dangerfield and trengrove come out of the tac last year, and i would be disappointed if afl clubs overlooked his abilities, especially when you sit him deep down in the forward, his timing and pair of hands are remarkable.. and he doesn't go for besiktas people, i hate to break it but to the contrary he goes for the turkish powerhouses Fenerbahce Sk

Serhat, mate, if you continue the form you showed last weekend you shouldn't have a great deal of trouble being picked up whether it be in the National or Rookie draft.

Adam Treloar

Under 16 playing for Dandenong stingrays, a gun who plays across half forward and on the ball, Carlton have already contacted him and have shown alot of interest, very shy bloke but has the football world at his feet, love to see him at the blues in 2011.

Re: Adam Treloar

Ok you are a strange looking man in your photo with Murph just there <-

Thats my 11 year old daughter,if you dont mind.

I opened the thread to tell Carlton people about a kid who has been contacted by our club, not to defend a little girl against narrow minded people.

Re: Adam Treloar

I don't mean to sound rude but so what if he has been contacted by the club? I have a few mates who were drafted or got close to being drafted last year and are up for selection this year who have been contacted by numerous clubs.

Just because a club shows interest means jack shit come draft day as there are 15 other clubs who have a selection each round. If he is really good then just because other clubs havn't contacted him, does not mean that they wont select him. Even if they are contacted by clubs showing interest it by no means guarantees they will be drafted.

So this description would be for how many Tiger listed players??

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

He is worth punt.

Although people say he is from Richmond and we don't want somebody from that club who couldn't get a game, blah blah.

Wallace killed the development of about 44 players at that club.

New environment for a big, solid, leading forward who can kick goals, could certainly help our forward line, plus who wouldn't want to play for the Blues...the recently woken sleeping giant!!!
