Draft speculation *MERGED THREADS*

Grigg has been carrying an ankle injury all season. Picked it up in that ill fated pre-season game we played over in country WA. He is on crutches ATM after having had the operation to fix it as soon as the season was over.

What does Gibson add to our team that we dont already have? Why would we be interested? I cant think of answers to those questions so I'm not getting too excited.

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

I'd be pretty wary of picking up any product of the Richmond development program. Will be coming from a long way back

So Cotchin wants to join his former Northern Knights team-mate at Visy Park. You'd say no to him? :D

Re: Is Cleve Hughes worth picking up late in the draft ?

I am not interested in us acquiring Gibson, to be honest I think he's overrated and often punches 'above' his weight down back for NM.

As with science, there is always an exception to every rule :o

I'd take Vickery as well. Liked what he did in his limited senior game time this year. Despite what some people say, Richmond don't have a bad group of kids on their list.

Our First Round pick AND Grigg for Gibson and some rubbish picks?

There'd have to be some sackings in the footy department at Princes Park if this was to happen.

agree.

Gibson is not the quality of defender we need. If he comes across without much loss, than fine, but defintely not by giving up our first pick plus Grigg.

Gibson isn't worth a first round pick on his own, let alone pick 11 and Grigg.

What are they on?

Grigg is worth a first round pick around 12 on his own...

You'd say pick that player with 11 if that was a video of a player in this draft.

Though he's no Liam Anthony.

A straight swap perhaps Grigg for Gibson?

I'm not so sure about this to be honest. Wouldn't want to let go of Grigg regardless of him being out of form.

I'd only trade Grigg to North for someone like Andrew Swallow, I don't rate Gibson at all, truth be told.

Anyhow if we must trade Grigg, would prefer to get a top 20 pick, I would prefer us if we loaded up on more 1st and 2nd rnd draft picks then get recycled players (for the most part)

Grigg was a better kick than Swallow in his second season.

Treaded water this year due to injury and form, but will rebound next year.

Why would we swap Grigg for a pick in the hope that we draft a Panos or Gysberts?

They're two names that have been thrown up in phantom drafts...

Or a player who happens to be 196 cms and might be a KPP?

Three years of development and senior footy into a top 20 pick in a strong draft versus a late first round pick in a weak draft.

That's a no brainer for Carlton.

No wonder Molly1 posted that Grigg won't be traded. :thumbsu:

I think we would be crazy to trade Grigg. For us to take the next step and become a side that delivers consistent 4 quarter footy (for several years) instead of the contrast of performances we currently throw up, the improvement must come from the following players: Austin, Bower, Brown, Garlett, Gibbs, Grigg, Hampson, Joseph, Kreuzer, Murphy, Robinson, Yarran. All these guys are 20-22 years old with the exception of Yarran.

Blokes who are a year or 2 older like, Armfield, Betts, Jamieson, Russell and Walker will also continue to improve. O'keeffe, Tiller and the rookies we currently have are largely unknown as to an extent is Warnock.

Our list is in good shape and we still might be a year or so off being a real premiership contender. We have to show some patience and to trade a bloke like Grigg, who I think has a lot of upside, for Gibson (25 yrs old 189cm) isn't a great move in my opinion, Boak is a different kettle of fish, but Port would want overs in any trade.

Cast your minds back only two years people. West Coast all but demanded pick 1 for Judd, and we stood firm on that. And that was to get the best player in the AFL. I hardly think we're going to trade away our first pick for someone like a Gibson, or even a Burgoyne for that matter. We have a history of hanging onto our 1st selection, and this year won't be any different.

All the players that have been thrown up, aside from Brian Lake, really don't add that much value to our list.

I, like many of the posters here on BF have said that we need another big body up forward to help take the pressure off Fevola, however, having read some posts, it is worth remembering that we still had 13 wins this year, and with a bit more skill, it could have been quite a few more. We lost very winnable games against Essendon, Hawthorn, Sydney & Fremantle.

We forget that when Warnock comes back in, this will hopefully free Kreuzer up more to play forward more often. We will also get Waite back, and unlike some posters here, I suspect he'll be almost right to go come round 1. We also hopefully get a fit & firing Andrew Walker, who could slot very nicely on a HFF. Or a Chris Yarran, with a year in Melbourne, and a full pre-season under his belt.

He'll be 9 months post injury, which would be the earliest he'd come back I'd think.

May be touch and go for NAB cup/challenge in the later weeks, but any setbacks in his rehab and they'll hold him back.

He's been doing leg weights etc for a number of weeks now...I suspect Waite will be right for Rd.1 however I wouldn't expect to see alot of him in the NAB Cup..

He'll actually be closer to 10 months Bluebear. Looking back at the fixture, we played Adelaide on May 23rd, and given that round 1 is often the final weekend of March, it will be about 10 months since he had surgery.

That trade would be a win for us, but it is not going to happen. Goose is worth more than Fisher.
Actually .. I've heard a very similar exchange mooted from a good source - in addition to a swap of later draft picks.

I get the feeling the Saints don't really rate Goose all that much anymore.

No to Grigg for Gibson straight swap. With a couple of minor tweaks Grigg will be a great player.

that said, it looks like Im one of the few on here that rates Gibson. Plays on talls and smalls, is strong and even looked good in the midfield later in the season (besides kicking the wrong way) Would be more than happy to see him in Navy Blue

I think Grigg was hampered by injury
Certainly think he will have a long sit down talk with the powers that be
When I hear talk of him smoking etc I wonder how commited he is to his career or if he is just a kid wanting to live the blessed life.
I certainly would read the riot act to him. Injury is one thing but attitude problems get worse and worse.
Had high hopes for this lad. Hope he dfoes not let us down!
Certainly think he should/could be in our Fab 4

IF Hadley does want out we could get a 3rd rounder for him, then use that pick from Brisbane to get Tuck from the tigers.

What about Fisher to the Saints in exchange for Goose.

Not sure we'd get Brisbane's 3rd round selection for Hadley, but it's worth having a crack at. I also like the on-trade of that selection to get Tuck. At least we'd be replacing like for like, and Tuck would certainly add that in-and-under type we need.

I'm not completely sure about that MS. Maguire hasn't been able to get any game time with the Saints this year at all, and even after "resting" 8 players against Hawthorn, he still couldn't get a game with the Saints. I actually think it would be a reasonable swap, and would be a terrific way for both players to re-start their careers elsewhere.

Why don't we try and have a crack for some of the talented young vic players over in Freo, like Ibbotson, I am not sure if he is under contract for next year, but i've rated him highly for a couple of years now
