Zac Clarke for either 1st or compo and a player like Morton/Jackson/Connors/Thursty. We have pick 14 now i believe which is pretty good. Would do Foley and a 2nd and pick up Greene to replace Foley.

Think df3 is spot on except Morris is likely a 3rd rounder but Tipungwuti lasts till 4th.

Honestly don't think we're in the position to be offering our first rounder for a guy like Clarke. Most teams that trade high picks for rucks generally are ready for an assault on a flag.

IMO we still need a couple more real quality mids to help out our rotations and take pressure of Cotch n Dusty. Once that's sorted, then we look at trading high picks for a ruck... Or just develop one.

Isn't that only the case when the ruckman is of a certain age.

Clarke has the ability to grow with this team.

Yep. We also have a 2nd to pick up a mid. Morris will allow Deledio to play more mid especially when we have less injuries down back. (fingers crossed) Foley fit and firing. Conca same. Helbig will get more games. Next year 3 top 40 picks to add to the midfield. Probably try add another VFL/WAFL/SANFL mid (like Barlow).

That's 5 new mids (4 top 40 picks, 1 mature ager) Deledio, Conca, Helbig added to the rotation. Plus Clarke plays as a midfielder.

This year is very shallow though. There's no guarantees that we can get a quality mid for our second round.

Evens out after first 12 or so. Could get a similar level player in 2nd round as 1st. All comes down to how different clubs perceive different players. With Clarke we know what we are getting. A future gun athletic ruckman. Morris will play back next year. Newman, Grimes, Astbury, Batch back in the backline. Deledio, Conca, Helbig will play more midfield time next year. We also have 3 top 40 picks next year. Pick up a state-league mid in rookie draft this year. 2nd round mid as well. That's 8 mids on top of the ones playing tonight. Clarke is effectively another mid anyway. Bigger tank, quick, athletic but 203cm!!

Z Clarke or Trent West as a cheaper option.

My take is that Simpson is their preferred #1 ruck post Ottens, so West may be the better one to target. Might even be good strategy to make a play for Simpson (who is uncontracted), as this might flush out a fair deal from the Cats on West. I'd be happy with either.

I agree.

I would happily go one of those two young Geelong rucks as they wouldn't be too expensive. ALso history shows that there offloads via trade generally do well.

As for the draft I am hoping there are some KP bolters that are taken before pick 14 so a quality mid slips.

At this stage I can't see Kavanagh, Grigg, Buntine, Hoskin Elliot slipping. Kavanagh would have to really concern clubs with his injuries and would be a steal at 14.

Doboz was playing some good footy recently as well as a few other big guys so hopefully they force GWS hand around the pick 7-13 mark.

You would think they are getting 2 mids in the top 3 as well as Sculyl and Ward. Would think they will reach for some key position talent.

Brodie Smith, Lewis Jetta, Ayce Cordy, Jack Grimes, James Sellar, Grant Birchall, Angus Monfries, Fergus Watts, Daniel Bell and the great man Ashley Watson have been the previous 10 pick 14s. You would have to say we'd be very lucky to get someone better than a Mitch or Zac Clark/e based on that.

Spot on. Over-rating of picks. If we can't get Z.Clarke by all means keep it. But odds are he will be better than anything available. Load up on mids next year. Solve our ruck problem now. It is actually embarrassing how bad we are in the ruck. We are 2 drafts away from having a good enough list to push top 4.

No. Someone referred to some talk on WA radio indicating that Freo were keen on Mitch Clark. Keen enough that they might be shopping Zac Clarke to make the Mitch Clark deal happen. If this is simply media knobs talking crap then I wouldn't be holding out hope of securing Zac. If there is actually some basis of truth to it, then perhaps there's a small chance of it happening. I wouldn't be getting too excited.

If Morris shows enough I would get Docherty, and Morris like knightmares phantom draft.

Key is the emphasis is on quality, I do not like mids with question marks and I can't see the better ones slip to 14. we can get better mids next year and future years, and kpp stocks do not stand out

The other possibility is Dobsz the tassie ff as a leading forward with great speed, but it depends if the hype isn't just hype.

This would give us a backline with Docherty, Batchelor, Morris, Rance, Grimes and looking for a CHB. Dea is also very much in contention. moore, thursfield ,mcguane backup, I see Docherty capable of playing up the ground as well

Houli for mine still has question marks defensively IMO as a backman so when players like white get let go in the future Houli can assist up the ground imo. Lids I still am not sure is a defender, I would leave him on a wing, like Richo don't change the wheel, a wingman is a wingman, and Newie can play up the ground in his twilight

Personally don't see it with Gumbleton. Maybe its a continuity thing but don't see the hype. Nothing special about him. And very injury prone. The two things are probably linked. We already have a potentially injury prone KPF in Griff.

Magic, in regards to Dobosz, if we feel Griff could play CHB or we would prefer a more leading type forward which i think stuck out like dogs balls on sunday then yes. Though i would rather Zac Clarke or a mid with the pick.

Gumby might have been able to play at juniors but that's got to have been whittled away significantly by now. Is probably half the player he was, which is really sad.

Hence, i would put it up for trade. Crozier as a creative forward would be ok in my books too. Personally if it was 12 id prefer keep it but 14 the quality drops off and would prefer to trade.

I haven't seen Griff for a while, but what i have seen from in the past I cannot see him having the mobility/agility to play CHB.

Gumbleton is too one dimensional for me.

The mids in this draft don't read that well. Bearing in mind we will be picking up at least another 8 mids in future drafts before our premiership there is no need to get an iffy mid to feel arm and fuzzy when they are suspect imo

I get Docherty for a number of reasons. He is the only player at that pick with definite class with a defensive and offensive game. For me, Houli hasn't proven himself to me as a back for all situations. Eg. on the weekend who stopped Harvey in the forward line. Batchelor I rate, but isn't big in the quick in the running area, Dea I rate but also is not in the running area without the kicking effectiveness either, I cannot see Lids as a defender, he belongs on the wing for mine, Farmer is not good enough, and Morris who I rate on the vision will be a good addition if he meets expectations. Houli frankly is limited on how far he can come along in the height department against marking forwards not mentioned the fact he is at an age where the devvelopment curve will start to taper off. I see Houli in a GF situation going forward coming in off the bench to file roles like and upgrade from White to be honest. It could play a running back in certain situations to release Docherty into the midfield to give us added class in the middle. I think Docherty how can play tall , play more in the midfield like Wojinski of Geelong, but also stop the marking small forwards if necessary.

At the end of the day IMO the small forwards of class, let alone mids, KPP simply are not there at pick 14 and we have to go with youth so Docherty seems the obvious choice to me.

The game against North showed me our defense has a long way to go even without Mcguane. The only players I would definitely regard as highly probables in defense going forward for me are Rance,Grimes and Batchelor

In 2005 the weakest draft ever at the time pick 14 was Birchall. The 2006 super draft the strongest since 2001 pick 14 was James Sellar. 2007 another weak draft pick 14 was Jack Grimes. And 2008 another strong draft pick 14 was Ayce Cordy.

FJ will pick a talented kid with his head screwed on because that's what he and Dimma want. But don't go under estimating the kids because it's a weak draft.

Guys picked in the teens and early 20's include Bastanic, Menzel, Fyfe, Shuey, Redden, Zaharkis, tapscott, m brown (gee), Ward, s. Selwood, and Pears. Plus some reasonable looking ruck prospects like Lobbe and Hampson. A couple of mature recruits in Harry Taylor and Isaac smith.

We just need to trust in FJ to get the right kid.
