Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Hahahaha .. To all the people that think we wil trade possibly the best forward in the comp next to Franklin.

Players we need
Key Defender = Trengrove
Quality rover/ small forward = ?
Athletic ruckmen= Clarke or some one else

We need more impact players
Like a riolli type

I wonder what the indegnouse talent is like this draft ... (not very lucky when it comes to players of that type)

people laughed at me suggesting we should trade Ottens 18 months before we traded .... bad example..... it didn't work but the draft was more hit and miss back then.

Gerard Healey on the couch seems to think Trengrove is more a forward pinch hit Ruck. I have no reason to disagree so he is very suspect IMO as to whether he has proven he can hold down any position at AFL level yet given his lack of pace and lankiness

I believe with where our list stands now it would b stupidity to pay big on clarke and trengrove this year we will improve quicker by gettn versatile hard at it midfielders with our early draft picks also a cheap stop gap ruck such as blake . Post may well b better than trengrove anyhow .

as may astbury. im not to keen on going after another young key that would cost as much as trengrove, as im afraid it'd hinder the development of astbury, grimes, post and maybe set back rance. for now we have enough cover in the back line. first priorty is a ruck, second another good midfielder.

what good is a ruck if we cant get the ball he taps out?

Geez nut, way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Guess who we miss more than anyone right now:confused:

Actually, I think I agree with you, we should grab as many 17yo as we can find, then when they turn 22 and are just blossoming, we should trade them out for some more 17yo unknowns "with potential".

Sorry, I just don't understand the logic, and never will.

I did advocate getting pick 1 and an early round 2 pick for him.... In principle it was a decision that was going to add to our already strong position in the draft. In hindsight it was the wrong move..... but I made that when there were question marks over how long Ottens was going to take to get 100% fit again.

The big difference to now and then is the GWS 17 year old mini draft...+ we have a better recruiting department that would be less likely to stuff the picks up and our development.

Jack is a very good player but how much better is he going to get is questionable.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Kinda hard to get better than being the best FF in the comp when fit.
True... and add to that the fact that key position players are rarely at their peak at 22 years of age. He should, in theory, continue to get better for a few more years!

"when fit"..... if he crosses the whiteline he is fit. No if's no buts.... if he choses to play unfit than thats his choice... I'll judge him on his performance.

To think that the club would risk Jack in a "development" year and play him unfit beggars belief.

Nut, nowhere near as questionable as what a 17yo will produce in 24 months time.

You know what the best thing about draft picks is... you can actually get them for free, just for participating. In fact, over the next five years, we are guaranteed to be given five first round draft picks - for nothing. Yet, in that same timeframe, we are nowhere near guaranteed of getting our hands on a KPF the same quality as Jack.

Sums it up....Jack for draft picks = someone doing hard drugs in the middle of the day!

People are on some seriously hard drugs if they think we a going to build a Premiership winning team by picking up overated players like Trengrove and plugging all our holes with 3rd/4th and 5th round picks...

THIS IS the TRUTH, face up to it , do something about it , but please do not p... in the breeze about semantics

ummm soo what you guys are saying is .. we have to wait let say 5 years so we can stay sh*t to get top round draft picks ... we need to trade and deal players for this NEW style of AFL .. we are going toward more a Soccer type system were it will not be enough to just draft good players we need to use our money like GWS like GC like Collingwood like Carlton ect ect.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

....... the opportunity that GWS represent why I consider it.

I am not sure what you are saying but the GC/GWS system has been the system for the last 15 years for those oblivious to it!!

Why else would the gurus of AFL HQ endorse it??? Provided we don't tank, it has to be done if we want a premiership, that is the ABC of it, like it or not!!

Why do you think coaches on AFL insider are against priority picks if it was of no benefit to the lower clubs struggling?

Truth is this is the get out of jail card the power clubs do not want the battlers to have so they do no have a chance to provide hope to the supporters!!!!
