Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

This is why I am saying that the opportunity that GWS represents should not be over looked. WE WOULD GET MORE FOR JACK than he is worth.... it's as simple as that.

If we sit back and hope our draft picks become elite that we will spend the next 10 years watching GC and GWS winning multiple flags while we celebrate Jacks 70-80 goals a season.

I still think Foley and Deledio would give us the picks and force us to bottom out in the super draft that we can build an elite midfield without losing the best ff in the comp.

We will need Foley and deledio... Getting rid of 2 mids to gain 2 mids doesn't make sense. The whole idea is to build the best midfield in the comp and that would include keeping Foley and Lids. Lids off a Half back would be a huge luxury to have. Foley in the rotations as a burst player would also be of value. Cotchin, Martin... and 2 quality mids wuould give us a midfield that could match it with the nest.
I honestly believe our defence has the makings of a good one.

I would gamble Jacks worth ..... there has only been 1 dominate premiership ff in the last 10 years... The other flags have been won in the middle... Yes it would set our forward line back a few years but who knows Griffith could be better than Jack long term anyhow. Being bigger faster than Jack I cant see why not.

Dont get me wrong Jack is a great footballer... All I'm suggesting is we cash in our chips to a new player that will pay overs for jacks appeal.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

FFS Foley and Deledio are both under 25 and have played 100 games.

What is with people wanting to develop good players into guns and then trading them for an 18 yr old...

Do we then build them up and when they get to 100 games repeat????

It is a ridiculous idea...as well as JACK!

If they were all 28/29 i would say go for it but they are flipping 24 and under

I wouldn't direct swap them for 2 17yo's. That wouldn;t be worth it at all. We would get slaughtered in that deal. WOuld need a first rounder and maybe their 2nd rounder thrown in. Even if its 15 and 28. That would give us 10/15/28/31. Trade 31 for a ruck plus 3 mids. (Kavanagh/Sumner/Kerridge/Z.Clarke) Most likely end up with Whitfield as GWS will be ahead of us but we will get a priority and a compo and a 2nd rounder (1/19/20/30) next year and we still have the best forward in the comp. Plus O'Meara and Crouch/Kennedy whoever we want out of 25 players if we have top 2 picks. If our midfield is still not good enough we should pack it in with 8 top 31 picks and 2 best 17yo's.

Nut , the only reason we would sensibly trade JR is to extend our premiership window out 3 years or so to allow us more opportunity to build a premiership for certain ages like Cotch, Martin, Grimes etc.. Idea being Cotch and Martin probably be our veterans in 9 years and we wouldnt have many veterans intially so would be front loading our youngters.

This is why you cannot trade JR without trading Lids etc.. Their is no point. JR is worth more than Lids and is younger. So this year we could trade Lids and others if suitable and only next year if things still suit trade JR to GWS who will have 100 games with us for father son as well. Remember, JR may get traded back to us later if suits us but this is not why we would entertain such a trade.

The other thing is you cannot trade JR for more than he is worth. He is worth a lot and even more so to GWS and he should gel with Patton in theory . GWS will not be screwed over like we shouldn't be screwed over and if either thinks they are being screwed a trade should not happen nor would it. I think I might value JR a lot more than yourself IMO. If it wasn't for what GWS could offer up, and where RFC list is at relative to the comp, I wouldn't entertain trading JR at all.

If we were gambling JR's worth we wouldn't do it!! The important thing is RFC can gamble on getting good forwards in the next 8 years with high draft picks, but GWS, with trying to get fans, and a great fit with Patton and reshaping their side JR is absolute gold!!. They are virtually guranteed a premiership within 6 years if they do not stuff up their backline and other easier recruiting and development because with Lids and JR plus patton and their other elite recruits they effectively have the blocks in place!!!

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Go for the best available mid, whether it be Grigg, Hoskin-Elliot, or Kavanagh......simple really

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

dangerfield is worth our first pick in this draft easily, plus more, but forget about it, because he wont be coming here.

keep our first pick and go best available mid, make sure they can kick and have a footy brain and they arent a stick and we should be ok.

Why would we have to trade Lids???? he will play intil he is 32... has been injury free his whole career. 9 years??? whats that all about. I would loking at 3-4 years when the 17 year olds are at the same point Cotch and Martin are at now. With Lids and Foley as experienced heads.

The whole idea of trading JR is to get the early under 17 pics which could all go this season if GWS trade all four picks.

He is not worth 2 top 5 picks.... potentially that is what we will get with 2 17 year olds.

You should be working for GWS....

I would keep deledio, foley, Cotch and Martin and add 2 quality mids thus having a very strong midfield.

Pods is doing the job for Geelong with their Midfield... The way the game is being played these days the one out Key forward is almost redundant and even if you have a good one they can make you become too FF focused.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Well if you don't think JR is worth at least 2 top draft picks don't trade hm because you are underating him so bad it aint funny!!!

It sounds like you trying to get Tigers to offload JR for no reason.

Are you sure you are not working for GWS??

"no reason"???? have I not explained myself 200 times already??????. GWS right now represents an opportunity that will not came again. There are 4 picks available over 2 years that would allow us to get quality young players.
GWS own those picks but cant use them.... but they can auction them off to the highest bidder. If we want these picks we will have offer something VERY good. Jack Riewoldt would surely get us 2 of those picks. Maybe even the first 2 picks. This would allow us to get 2 elite 17 year olds that could well be top 5 picks in a normal draft and on a side note Ablett was not even worth 2 top 5 picks.

IS THIS TOO HARD to understand????? FFS.

I see where your coming from but gee we would want more than 2 kids back for the best FF in the league. KPP/Rucks are always worth more than mids. If one of those kids didn't work out then we are screwed. They would have to give us the first two picks plus a first rounder in 2011 draft to get us interested at all and i'd think we would still reject it.

Keeping Riewoldt as the best forward doesn't mean we will be one-dimensional. A forward line of Riewoldt/Vickery/Griffiths resting mids like geelong would be unstoppable if Griff develops how the club believes he will and stays on the park.

By all accounts O'Meara will end up close to as good as Deledio just not as tall. He's fast and skillful like Lids and has a DEFENSIVE side too. Crouch is bigger than Foley, wins the hard ball can play outside if we needed him to and has great skills and to top it off is consistent from week to week. Throw in a first rounder and a 2nd rounder should mean we score a 3rd gun mid (Sumner) and can trade 2nd rounder for a ruck. All that and still keep our first/2nd rounder which can be used on mids. (Kavanagh/Kerridge). Sumner would see the end of Edwards. Kavanagh and Kerridge would be bye bye to Jackson and probably Grigg would be at Coburg.

Sounds good to me!!!

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Nut complains we have no leadership but wants to trade the man who will likely be Cotch's vice-captain.

Not to mention the commercial face of the club for years to come

That's ok, we can get rid of him, and play more games in Darwin to make up the shortfall in $... good idea nut? :p

and go on TFS and leave late and not wear gloves?:D

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Now you're just shit stirring :p

yes i was. But we cant afford to lose the best FF going around and potential back-to-back coleman medallist. Imagine him, vickery and a full-flight Griff if it happens all together. With some serious depth in the midfield which i think we can obtain within next 2 drafts if we play our cards right.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

What to do with our first pick? Not **** it up I hope.

Pick Buddy over Tambling in 2004 and Mitch Clark over JON in 2005 and we'd very possibly be in the eight right now.

I know I'm Captain Obvious with 20/20 hindsight but it is amazing how just those two decisions alone have shaped our club.

It's been done to death, I know, I know but I mention it only to stress how supremely important our drafting will be if we are to extract ourselves from 30 years of shiteness.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

I'm pretty confident with who we choose for our first pick. Since 06 our first rounders have been all hits IMO.

Jack, Cotch, Vicks, Dusty, Conca. All look the goods.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

Nut complains we have no leadership but wants to trade the man who will likely be Cotch's vice-captain.

As much as I loved Richo there is a reason why he was never captain or an integral part of our leadership team, Jack is no different.... Jack is very self motivated and very interested in his own success. I've seen more dummy spits, looking down at other players and arm throwing from Jack than I did from Richo...

If Jack ends up as vice captain then god help us.

The whole idea is based on a second rebuild and strengthen our midfield so it becomes an elite midfield..... are you suggesting getting rid of 2 mids to gain 2??? this doesn't make sense.

I dont give a crap about commercial face of the club... I want a flag. If we can get 2 more elite mids then we would be better off. Simple. If Geelong doesn't teach you that then I cant.

Did the sky fall down when Plugger left the saints??? when Hall left the Saints or swans??? When Fev left Carlton??? I follow the Richmond Football club not the Coleman medallist. Cotchin Represents way more what this club should be striving for then Jacks self-centeredness.
