Re: drafting

Afternoon.

I just found this on the AFL site, and wanted to ask if any one knows if he is expected to be picked up by GWS...

I am at work today, and have not read through the rest of the thread. Sorry if repeating. I kind of expect that he will be well and truly gone, but it is the first I have heard.

Billy Longer, Northern Knights, 12 May 1993, 202cm, 95kg
The Northern Knights' skipper remained the dominant ruckman in the TAC Cup competition and will be the first ruck taken at the draft. Longer finished his Knights' career with a season high 41 hit-outs. The All Australian ruckman at the champs hit the scoreboard in all but two TAC Cup games this season and his appetite for tackling has not waned.

Thanks

Timmy.

Re: drafting

unless we purposely tell him to get "injured" and not do the combine and we can snag him :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

wouldnt be suprised if other teams have done that before
will still go at that pick. is a gun. Kavanagh has missed large chunk of the year and will still likely go top 10.

The guns don't slip because of combine (I hate that word, bring back camp) results or not competing. Murphy, cotchin, selwood and scully all didn't participate in the athletic trials from memory and still went high. Probably plenty of others too.

Re: drafting

Say we finith 9th which is likely. Which midfielders in the draft would be available at pick 18. Can we snare a decent one?

Re: drafting

Three players of the small/medium size that can play in the middle that could be there at 18 are:

1. McKenzie - Outside player with good shoe. HBF/Midfielder
2. Kavanagh - Long shot that he is there at 18 but stranger things have happened. Given his injuries. WOuld be a steal.
3. Devon-Smith - Is a gun but the the downside is he is only 175cm.

Re: drafting

There is still a possibility that players like Kavanagh and Greene could be available as there are sliders every year (Atley, Parker, Tappscott Bastinac, Swift etc) But some very good players the likes of Mckenzie, Sumner, Adams, Crozier and Docherty are all real possiblites...

Suprise selections like Kerridge (kicking isn't a problem like others have reported in my opinion) and Jackon Paine would also be considered.

Paine is a bit of a Darling, Fyfe hybrid type marking forward who can also play very well through the midfield. Is known as a hardworker and could really fill that whole that we hoped Troy Taylor would.

I hate it to buddy..

A recruiter can tell if a kid can/cannot play football,

Re: drafting

If we do finish 9th, what's everyones thoughts on offering our first rounder for Toy?

Would definately. It was commonly regarded he would of been a top 5 draft pick if he was in the draft last year which was very strong compared to pick 18 in an ordinary draft.

Whilst our recruiters would know better as to who we would be looking at with that pick & how he compares to toy ............ I would be all for it.

1st round pick + 1 of Thursty,Mguane,Connors,White
To GWS for Yarran ?

Is that the 17yo from WA im presuming. Think they would prefer compo to our 1st pick. They already have enough 1st rounders. Would be happy to get a top 10 kid for a pick in the 20's though so would still be keen.

Re: drafting

Saw Dandenong play today, They fought there way to a shocking win against the Calder cannons who were minor premiers... Nic Haynes is one to watch for with a 2nd rounder onwards.

Tall wingman (191cm) who is strong over head, good skills and delivery inside 50 and he has loads of pace and agility. Very athletic and with his leap can take a hanger.

Plays a bit like Isaac Smith. It's hard to gauge where he'll land because Hayes is 19.

Re: What will we do with our 1st round draft pick?

All Australian team

Jaeger O’Meara (WA),

These are the players I'd be happy to pick up out of the AA team

Jonathon Patton
Stephen Coniglio
Dom Tyson
Mitchell Grigg
Hoskin-Elliott
Clay Smith
Billy Longer
Brandon Ellis

So there's at least 7 players in the AA team i'd take, also I'd take Whitfield and O'Meara but they're not eligible this year.

There's some good players there, if any drop to 10 or 12 then we have to take them over trading the pick.

Just started reading this thread from the start so unsure if its mentioned or not, apologies to the poster if it is;

Jaeger O'Meara is as stated, ineligible to be drafted this year but has nominated for the specialised draft of four 17 year old players that must be traded by GWS for players with other clubs. I would happily trade Shane Tuck to GWS (or similar type) for O'Meara, he is a player that is ready made for AFL now. Do the trade!!!!

Re: drafting

Good to hear Toadvine. Who would be a more likely chance to come to us? This Haynes kid or Waldhunter?

It's hard to say but at this stage Haynes would be more likely to last to our pick. Waldhunter was expected to go in the first round heading into this season but his form hasn't been what it was. I haven't seen him play since the Champs but Waldhunter being the more highly rated and a year younger you think he'll go first on draft day.

Which one is a) better? and b) suits our needs more?

Re: drafting

I'd say we need talent all over the park. Waldhunter is more capable of winning inside ball and getting clearances, Haynes is better overhead and has more pace.

Things will be clearer after draft camp. I'd be happy to have either at the club.

Re: drafting

Round 1
Pick 12 - Kavanagh, McKenzie or Greene (If he lasts until our pick)

Round 2
Pick 33 - Waldhunter, Kerridge, Haynes or Bolger (If he lasts until our pick)

Round 3
Pick 51 - Tipwunguti, Sundberg

Round 4
Pick 68 (I think) - Steven Morris (F/S)

Anymore possible prospects??

Re: drafting

Must chase an established ruck, just chasing our tail until this happens. Need to offer our prioratory pick plus something most likely jackson or foley, the likes of farmer and edwards simply will not get across the line.
