The list is coming along ok, we just need to take the best available player. Everyone thought Rance and Vickery were going to be failures but both looked pretty good this year. FJ knows what he's doing

I was asking about further info on Tom Downie and got some very good feedback.

He should go late first round, early second. Can't see him slipping past that though.

Strengths are he is 203 cm but moves like a 180cm bloke. Ground level work is a grade as is his tap work (ground level work is better though). Fact that his basketball also helps him get drafted higher. Behind Longer he will be the best ruckmen from the draft.

I wonder if Francis has been watching him closely behind a tree.

Wonder if we make a play for a 17yr old pick, not enough to get us the first pick but enough for the second.

I know all the hype is around O'meara but Crouch seems to be a gun as well and pretty much ready to ply AFL (even though he can't til 2013).

If we managed to pull off say getting Crouch through the 2nd 17yr old pick

Then a combo of possibly Kavanagh and Boseley with our first and second rounder.

That would add midfield depth to our list and add a good KPD for our backline.

Though I doubt either of those two would last til our 2nd rounder...

getting a pick in the mini draft would mean giving up our first round pick, it would be something like our first rounder and the compensation pick for a pick in the mini draft. which when you consider where our pick is in the first round this year, and all the compo picks that will be cashed in next year, not a bad deal at all. not that i have seen these kids, but from what i hear they are class.

GWS have the mini draft so they can pick up players, not picks.

I know we would have to give up quality to get quality, so we would have trade probably say a Foley + Morton for it.

i understand the reason for it, but are they not allowed to trade for picks?

also no chance they will want morton, and while foley is good, im not sure he is good enough to secure us a pick in the minidraft.

Yea they are allowed to but it defeats the purpose of its design.

If they end up trading them for high draft picks then the AFL might as well have just given them every top 10 pick in this draft.

GWS have already stated that there main priority for this year is to gather as many compensation picks as they can, pretty much what GCS did last year.

Draft talk part2

As the draft talk thread is getting full decided to make a new thread too talk about all the draft news , just hope that kavanagh slides then I think we one second tier midfielder a good half forward , a kpp if astburry or post dosent develop and of course a good
Ruck down ( zac Clarke ) from making the finals. Start posting!:)

Re: Draft talk part2

I doubt we'll get Z Clarke unless we give away alot. I'd prefer to get someone like Hampson who can still win tap outs but not cost as much. I can't remember what Maric is like at centre bounces, so not sure about him or not. Anyway if we get a ruckman, we'll probably have to delist one and it will come down to Graham or Browne and I think it will be Graham. Tuck has been given another year. I have a feeling Miller and White will keep their spots. Maybe Nason will get another year. Mcguane may be used in a trade to get Hampson or another ruckman I think and I reckon Moore will retire.

Out:
graham
farmer
hislop
taylor
gourdis
moore(retired)
mcguane(traded)
hicks(rookie)

Don't know who we'll get with pick 14 but hopefully it's a pretty good midfielder

That sort of stuff doesn't start to leak out until after the combine.

Kavanagh didn't play again on the weekend and the Jets were knocked out of the finals so he won't play again this year. Still a lot of uncertainty surrounding where he will fall come draft day.

It seems so, His school side isn't playing footy either so I think it's safe to assume he missed through injury.

He got a pretty bad cork 2 weeks ago so he may have not been 100%.

Our best chance of getting him is if hes injured and misses combine u would think. But then, if that happens, is it too big of a risk?

Kavanagh is injured but I wouldn't think he is too high a risk. Has shown in the past he is quality so it would be a case of drafting him and then giving him time over the pre season to get his body right:

Cotchin, Deledio, Martin, Foley, Conca, Kavanagh.....WOWEEEEEEEEE
