Re: drafting

AFL site has us taking either Brad McKenzie or Elliot Kavanagh with pick 14.
i hope we go mckenzie always take the bloke that can kick it 65 meters and land it on a ten cent peace, plus i hear kavanagh has had hammy probs all his life.:thumbsu:

Judd's shoulders were shot, selwoods knees wouldnt stand up to AFL and heppel had OP.

Injuries are not the best sign but with quality medical practices and a kid with a good head and determined it shouldn't be a problem.

This is why I love Hardwicks. He wants kids with the right mindset and it's policy for them to develop other skills so they are well rounded people not just footballers!

MUAHAHAHAHA LET THE SLIDING BEGINN!!!!
KAVANAGH HERE WE COME!!!

Now that everyone is so caught up in trying to poach O'Meara, this could be our chances to pick up Crouch, Vlastuin sounds good by the description given.

wiley played forward pocket, anyway if this kid kav is as good as everybody is crapping on about he wont last till pick 14.

Re: drafting

ive heard something about kav that has made me hope we stay away from him, i hope that person was wrong, unfortunately i swore i wouldnt say what i was told.

Re: drafting

So why can I remember going to games and seeing him pick up 30+ possessions all over the ground. I am sure I wasn't dreaming at the time.....

Wiley was a gun mid. One of my absolute favourites. Was there the day he knocked himself out on a goalpost and his left foot goal in the 1980 GF was pure silk

Don't think we've had a better #2 since, actually. Bloody chris Burton, Terry keays. Gaspar was good for some time I guess

Was there that day too mate. I hated Roger Merrett forever after that incident. Wiley definitely a rover, not a forward pocket.

Wiley came and did a clinic for our year level at high school in about 82, I had to pinch myself. Garry Wilson was our sports co-ordinator at the time, so it was a fair line up that day.

OK, some help please.

We all know/ hear that the draft is poor after 15/20.

My question is, are the next 30-40 relatively easy to rate in order of preference or does it become a bit of a blancmange where the bloke at 35 is probably pretty similar to the guy at 60?

This is an issue when it comes to trading picks.

EG. If we think that not only is there a decent chance the guy we like at 35 could be there next round, because of the evenness of that part of the draft, but also that the bloke at 35 is likely of similar quality to 60, then I'd expect us to be more flexible with trading picks.

Interested in feedback and I think it's an important distinction.

Pretty well spot on. Only thing is having pick 35 over pick 53 is there is 18 chances for your player to disappear.

Re: drafting

Sounds like he has ability if you ask me if he has trouble being coached, like a young colt:D!!

Might be ahead of his time!!!
Depends what recruiters think of him. We are only drafting players of good character so if we pick him then he should be fine. Anyways keep spreading the rumour so he's at least an option at pick 14 :p

Re: drafting

As I posted on PRE a mate of mine has had a bit to do with him via a VFL club and his involvement with the Jets. He suggested he could be an absolute star and play 200 games if he can get over his injuries (been injured for the last 3 years) and that he is also fairly mentally weak...

I agree......trade 35 because most likely a similar level will be available at 60.

geez i doubt that very much.with our history i really dont understand this attitude toward the draft.

even in shallow draft yrs in recent yrs, the majority of players are taken in the top 50.
in a shallow draft yr i think it more important than at any other time to have as many picks as possible if not all of your picks inside the top 50.

rather than trading away really good picks around 35 id be looking to add to them around that point.

clubs in recent yrs are spending huge amounts on recruiting do you really believe they will find just as many good players around 60 as 35.

in 04 one of the shallowest drafts in recent times imo. clubs hardly used a pick after 60.
your advocating we use pick 14 and whatever other draft picks we use at pick 54 onwards.

why do we place so little value on our draft picks its this that has plauged the club since the inception of the nd in 86.

we need to find 4 or 5 very good to reasonable footballers every yr just to tread water it wont happen with picks after 54.

Buntine really seems like a player we would draft, going by our picks in the last draft.

reads the play well, good decision maker and good skills, although his lack of pace may be a put off.

still im a fan, and i think with him and batchelor coming off the half back flanks we would be set for many years to come.

we might go for a pure mid, but i wouldnt be unhappy if we picked him up.

would push lids to a wing, with conca on the other, martin in the middle, and then cotchin would need that other inside gun to support him.
