afl.com saying Kavanagh might be a top 20 pick. :)

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/125378/default.aspx

THE WESTERN Jets have a modest record of producing AFL players. They've only ever had one top-10 pick: Shannon Grant at No.3 in 1994.

That might be about to change, with the emergence of two run-and-carry midfielders who are likely to be taken high in next month's NAB AFL Draft.

Will Hoskin-Elliott is a wingman who should go in the top 10, while Elliott Kavanagh might go in the top 20.

Anyone with half a brain would've taken Dusty with their first pick... Which makes Melbourne's recruiting that much funnier! :D

I rated Trengove as Number 1 and would have been stoked if we got him. Still reckon hes not all that far from Dusty.

Very happy to have Dusty however :D

Does anyone like Shane Nelson? Just realised he won the kicking test and is a real accumulator of the footy. Good endurance and speed as well. Loves the rough stuff but still highly skilled in congestion. According to this article insiders comparing him to Dusty.

THE RUNDOWN:
This bullish yet classy midfielder is likely to go top 20 in the next draft.

Nelson is playing his second year in WA’s state 18s and if his 2010 form as a 16-year-old is anything to go by, this year he should solidify his bright future.

Tough midfielder, good character and kicking skills... sounds like someone FJ would be looking very closely at. No doubt they would have consulted Conca and their WA contacts about him.

No slight on Trengove, who is a very promising young player who should develop into a gun, but he's miles behind the Bull.

Disagree. Hes behind, but far from miles away.

15 or 26 do u think Jimmy?

Ideally at 55!! Kavanagh/Grigg/Nelson would be nice but that would be dreaming. I guess its up to FJ and co and how high they rate him and which players have slid to pick 15 etc... Definitely sounds like promising talent though.

Id be iffy he lasts till 26. With Freo and WC between our 2 picks but that's not a reason to reach for someone. I guess with 2 first rounders they need to try guess which way around to pick their 2 targets. eg. Everyone may expect Grigg to go higher than Nelson but we may take Nelson first thinking no one will take Grigg in between our picks where as Nelson is likely to go to a WA club. Glad its not my choice :D

It sounds like he is rated around the 20 mark and is likely to be taken by either Freo and WCE as you say. Would definitely be a nice pick up at 26 though. The pressure is on FJ and co this year that's for sure!! If they nail this one it could really catapult us into contention within a couple of years or so.

Does anyone have footage of Kavanagh? You'd reckon GWS will risk him, given the word on his talent.

I think you also need to realise Kavanagh is developing a god like reputation on big footy that he may not actually be able to match. Hence recruiters might genuinely see him as a 15-20 pick.

Hope we do get him but there are always those players that BF posters think will got low and don't end up doing so.

Its not just on BF that people are giving him God like status. ;)

God like is a bit of an overstatement. From what I've read, it's from what junior watchers are saying about the bloke, and the fact that he ripped it up straight back from injury. With 11 of the first 14 picks I'd be amazed if GWS doesn't take him. Of course that's providing the hype is justified, but if it's not, why would we want him.

Care to explain?

Picking Grigg and Kavanagh would be a North thing to do, taking the big pre-draft names that have slipped down the order where other clubs have done DD and passed. If either of them fit outr plans then great, but I have faith in our boys to pick the right players, even if we haven't heard of them now. Really not that keen on Grigg at the moment. Pretty keen on Kav.

Not all big names that slip are going to be a bad choice, though. It doesn't seem to have hurt West Coast to pick up the slider in Darling, ditto Port in Butcher, ditto us in Rance. It's all on a case to case basis. I haven't watched enough this year to say but the early wraps (and usually the late knocks) appear for a reason. It's all about pros and cons.

Yep. Provided they pass the kicking and character test then a slider is good for us. If they are a shit kick (Atley) then doesnt really affect us even if they slide to 55.

Paul Daffey probably has a rough idea where the kid will go too. If he survives to 15 (its survival to avoid going interstate this draft :D) then his kicking is up to scratch it will come down purely to character.

Check out all the sliders you just named. All have proved that they probably should have gone a little earlier. You could even add Rich to the list (pick 8 was about right for him- shot onto the scene and only just getting back to having a real impact). I would have no qualms whatsoever as to taking Grigg with pick 15 provided that Kavanagh and Greene were off the board.

1 month ago we were hoping/praying this guy would fall to pick 14. Now all of a sudden we are reaching for him at pick 15. Sure he isnt quick... but he also doesnt have to put on any weight to be AFL ready. Speed isnt everything. Grigg is an accumulator who reads the play well and uses the ball superbly. He would be a great addition to the tigers midfield and i hope we pick him

^^
Yes but Grigg may last to 26 and we can take the risk and try and get him at our 2nd pick. Hoping this Markworth is our pick 15, sounds like he has real potential and upside

the more i see and hear about adams the more he reminds me of joel selwood, obviously not as strong as him, but he would be the perfect addition to our midfield, plus he can push forward and kick a goal or two. i think he will be one that recruiters rate higher than people on big footy, but if he lasts till our pick, ill be stoked.

Definitely my feelings too. Very keen on Adams. He is rated pretty highly here I think. Regular top 10 prediction. Kavanagh or him and Grigg at 26 would be just perfect

I think 26 should give us something to like.

Grigg was being discussed as top 5 in July. If he is there at 15, and we really like him, I'd rather we didn't roll the dice and hope we pick him up later

Adams was suspended over the TAC cup finals period for a rough tackle that left a player unconscious. So he's definitely got some mongrel about him.

He's a leader and so clean and composed with the ball. It's been along time sine we've drafted a Falcon.

just had another look at the phantom drafts, seems like the ones with a good reputation have him pretty high, whereas those who havent seen much or arent regular phantom drafters have him between 10 and 20.

i cant see him lasting past pick 12, but fingers crossed he does, him and dusty could be like the bash bros!

i have only seen grigg play twice, plus his video footage, i still think he has a great kick, but its his defensive side that worries me, we really need two defensive minded midfielders to complement our group.
