Prediction Draft tampering is allowed now and AFL is completely alright with it this season. (Good to know)

So which high profile players wanted to come to Richmond when we were s**t? We were apparently meant to get plugger but the dick pulled out at the last minute.

Cousins doesn’t count.

Well documented that the AFL intervened at the last minute and facilitated his move to the Swans.

Similar deal was done with Judd.

The draft/equalisation, whatever you want to label it, is a complete failure when 14 of the last 16 flags reside within 100km of AFL house.

Nothing to see here.

Smaller interstate clubs wish they had that issue. Their problem is far worse - when they are ordinary, they can’t even keep the players they draft.

That's some quality cherry picking farmer, any reason you happened to pick 16 as your number?
Umm, post inquiry into why Vic clubs we're s**t in their own league.
I thought that would be obvious.

The date of that enquiry must be known to every SA fan, do you hold a service every year for it?

If you went back 20 years, your 14 in 16 suddenly becomes 14 in 20. Funny about that.

More likely Port fans remember Russell Ebert playing in Melbourne in 1979 whilst continuing to operate his sports store in Adelaide. Ebert would fly to Melbourne for the Tuesday training session, fly back to Adelaide, work until the middle of Thursday, fly to Melbourne again, play for North Melbourne in the VFL, and fly back Saturday night.

1979 Russell Ebert Travel Schedule[16][59]
Tuesday afternoonFlight to Melbourne
Tuesday nightFlight to Adelaide
Thursday afternoonFlight to Melbourne
Saturday nightFlight to Adelaide
'I think he was the first fly-in fly-out footballer because he came across from South Australia, Port Adelaide, and played just the one season. He flew in on a Thursday night and would fly home on a Sunday. Marvellous year at the club, played all 25 games, 15 goals, had the most possessions of anyone at the club in that time.'
— Ross Glendinning describing Ebert's year at North Melbourne in 1979.[60]

According to Malcolm Blight, when North Melbourne suffered a series of injuries during 1979, Ron Barassi utilised Ebert in a range of different positions.[61] Ebert's tally of twenty-five games for North Melbourne is the VFL/AFL record for the most games in a career in that league that only lasted one season.[62] During his season with North Melbourne Ebert would play alongside Malcolm Blight, Graham Cornes, Keith Greig, Ross Glendinning, Wayne Schimmelbusch, Gary Dempsey and Graham Melrose.[63] Ebert collected the most disposals of any North Melbourne player during 1979.[64] North Melbourne finished second on the ladder and reached the Preliminary Final.[64]

'Russell was a pleasure to coach. His input both physically and mentally was excellent. He never whinged or moaned about sore spots and trained and played with them which is what a coach admires. Russell thought about his footy and gave it all he had.'
— Ron Barassi, coach of Ebert during the 1979 VFL season.[65]
After a challenging year balancing his business, family and football commitments Ebert did not consider playing another season with North Melbourne in 1980.

Any footy follower knows the thirst of VFL clubs for the best players, some came, most didnt. For example Gary McIntosh or Stephen Michael.

Why would you go back 20 years when they hadn't addressed the state of Vic football at that stage?
The point is, post inquiry the Vic clubs have dominated so equalisation has done nothing to prevent whatever measures the VFL decided it needed to implement to make themselves relevant again.
Like turning a blind eye to your association with Robinsons great mate Dank. An association he figured was important enough to thank him moments after your GF win even though 'records' show Dank was never engaged by your club.
As fortune would have it Clarko, Hodge, Roughy, Mitchell and co. came to the rescue when the clowns at Windy Hill got the tip off from Vlad that the fix was up.
That was the quick response the VFL needed to turn the tide, in the meantime they set about establishing another 80 list positions on the GC and in GWS to develop your top up talent that Vic clubs have been taking advantage of recently with the help of another League lever in Free Agency.

When we we're s**t we covered a few seats with tarps, when you we're s**t the League covered much more..

Hardly surprising, South Australian footballers from that era had sublime skills and the likes of those you mention and the next wave in Platten, Bradley, Wanganeen, Buckley etc. etc. dominated them.
WA sent plenty of elite talent over who also dominated in their supposed superior league.

All they had we're thugs.

I cant imagine, whats it like to have an inquiry held to assess why you we're so s**t in your own league?
Must just be a Vicco thing.

Would make a great licence plate slogan..

VICTORIA, THE INQUIRY STATE.

Yep, in '95 when Richo went down we coulda had Lockett still. Imagine '96 though with Lockett & Richo (91 goals)!

2014 Swans warm favourites in GF … sh*t the bed.

2016 Swans warm favourites in GF… couldn’t beat a side that finished 7th and was coming off multiple interstate finals.

2017 Adelaide warm favourites in GF … sh*t the bed.

2020 … Port couldn’t beat Richmond in a home PF which cost them a flag chance. Lions flogged by Cats in a home PF same year.

The issue is not lists or player retention, it’s not being able to play your best footy when it counts, which for whatever reason has afflicted non-Vic teams far more regularly.

The teams above had teams more than capable of winning a flag based on season long performance …. they just couldn’t get the job done when it mattered most.

2001 Essendon hot favourites in the GF, s**t the bed.
2002 Collingwood warm favourites in the GF, s**t the bed.
2003 Collingwood warm favourites in the GF, s**t the bed.
2004 Geelong couldn't beat the tired Lions in a PF at the MCG.
2005 St Kilda having finished only 4 points behind Sydney lose a PF to Sydney at the MCG.
2006 the only season since the turn of the century when your whole state s**t the bed...we need an inquiry.

See, we can play that game too, only difference is, no one held an inquiry for us...

Yep. Pretty amazing that after 6 years of not winning a flag the AFL were panicking about the state of Victorian teams but non-Victorian teams have only won 1 flag in 10 years and we have not heard a peep from the AFL about it.

Still chuckling that somebody used the term Vicco.
You think that's amusing, imagine being a football mecca with 10 teams and 400 plus players within spitting distance of one another and then having half a dozen expansion clubs forcing you to evaluate your worthiness in your own league.
You mob may win the yearly battle for flags, be we won the war.

Now that's worth chuckling over.
