Duffy tells the Dockers she can’t play because of work commitments and personal issues. Fremantle delist her on her advice.

Duffy then nominates for the WA draft. She goes un-drafted. Not sure what she said to West Coast but I am sure they would have selected her.

Then Duffy admits that she had been holding a secret that Melbourne offered her a contract.

Melbourne now recruits her as a delisted free agent.

Why didn’t Melbourne and Duffy ask for a trade? Plus this is clear draft tampering.

This lacks integrity from Duffy and Melbourne.

No they didn't. Melbourne signed her as an undrafted free agent.

Her delisting was announced on the 10th of June. Melbourne had up until the 25th of June (four days after draft nominations had to be submitted) to easily sign her as a delisted free agent, and they didn't (instead waited to see if West Coast would pick her up first).

Basic knowledge of dates/rules and some common sense totally blows your sooky rant to pieces.

Duffy told Fremantle and on social media she couldn’t play because of personal issues and work commitments.

Clearly that was a lie. Fremantle made a decision to delist based on her lie. If Melbourne had picked her up within 2 weeks, that would have look worst than its looking now.

In her recent post, she was carrying a secret that she had agreed to play with Melbourne.

All she needed to do is ask for trade.

Very underhanded.

It doesn't work like that. First stage is the club decides whether to offer a contract, second stage is the player can accept or reject. It never got to the second stage with Fremantle & Duffy.

They didn't offer her a contract for season seven, which was confirmed on the club website (in the opening paragraph of this article). Consequently they surrendered the right to trade her.

If you had any integrity, you'd admit you're completely wrong rather than digging in deeper and attempting more misguided character assassinations.

You are a very weird take on things and always argumentative.

Good luck and please don’t reply to any of my posts.

Keep coming on here with ill-informed potshots at players and I'll keep shutting you down.

Lets be honest here - even if it were in bad faith. Melbourne's best pick was pick 44. Which in effect is pick 7 for WA talent. At that stage in the draft you're basically shooting darts.

ps. It is a terrible look. However, due to league expansion, and all the extra picks for expansion clubs, it's not like Freo lost out on much compensation.

What part of "not offered a contract" are you struggling with?

You are right about the compensation.

What disappointing is the keeping of a secret and lying.

Duffy is a great player and seriously can kick multiple goals.

I’m ok with her moving clubs, just be upfront and honest.

The secret was Melbourne offered her a contract, which she promised to accept if she didn't get picked up in the draft.

The lying is basically everything you've written in this thread.

Why didn’t Melbourne and Duffy ask for a trade?
Melbourne ended up using their first pick re-drafting a player they delisted to get down to the maximum list size. They couldn't trade for anyone without delisting more players (Colvin's ACL came a week after the DFA deadline). Without doing that, the only way for them to get Duffy was through the draft - either as a pick or as an undrafted free agent after.

Duffy is a star of the game and walks into the best 22.

Fremantle delisted her because she couldn’t play. I just don’t like when people are dishonest.

Sorry to Melbourne but this smells and they should have traded and maybe delisted a lesser player.

Duffy wasn't able to play last season either and Freo managed to not delist her. Jess Allan can't play and she's still on the GWS list. There's plenty of inactive players around the league. Fremantle delisted Duffy because they wanted to save some money.

Even if Duffy hadn't been delisted, she was out of contract, so she could have got to Melbourne by entering the draft. She could have told teams she doesn't want to play for them. She navigated the draft and ended up in a situation she's happy with. I see no rules that have been broken.

Melbourne's reward for this supposed gambit is they got to keep their picks. They used pick 44 re-drafting a player they'd just delisted, pick 49 drafting a player off their VFLW list and pick 72 on a junior from outside the elite system. It looks a lot like a bunch of players they could have got at any pick they liked. Surely, if the plan was to get to Melbourne all along, the best way to do that would have been to nominate Victoria and have Melbourne take her there.
