4 mins is way too long to pick. Especially in the first round. AFL clubs generally need about 40 seconds and can request for more time if need be.
Reason why NFL and NBA clubs require so much time (I think its like 7mins in the NFL) is because you can wheel and deal on the spot by trading. Teams trade down for more picks, trade back into the draft if a player they like is still there, etc. In the AFL, no trades are/can be done.
That's a fair point, I just can't think of any other way of making it a Good TV event. The 4 minutes was about allowing the commentators enough time to discuss each draftee. Interviewing the top 3 guys while the draft is taking place is just stupid. The commantaters provided very little analysis on any of the draftees. Pickering tried to talk about a draftee at one point and then Hudson told him off.
Top 10 was even worse than I was expecting.
