Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Not sure it was. Looks like he pulled the kick to me when he saw his options

How you can say either way definitively and judge the kids entire kicking skills on that is just beyond me tbh. Still hit the target regardless
Exactly.

It was an interesting discussion

They didn’t think we’d accept it but acknowledged later, it was something they’d do if they were the Eagles - a view I agree with. Personally, 2,13 for 5,6 is ideal imo but figured the Bombers wouldn’t offer it. Maybe they do - it wasn’t ruled out as being unrealistic

Cal also was coy as to whether it would be CDT Essendon take if they had pick 2. Assuming Duursma is a lock for pick 1 then perhaps they’re considering Robey. Do Richmond then go CDT or go with a combination of Taylor, Cumming or Grlj

Us trading down from 2 to 5 and still have access to CDT would be quite the plot twist. Then Sharp or Cumming at 6 and it’d be hard to argue we didn’t nail the draft as Twomey correctly said we need to
I guess it all comes back to the eternal (& debated ad nauseum) question: how highly do we rate CDT?

If we want CDT and see him as clear top 2 talent then we keep 2.

If we're into CDT but want to prioritise mids - 2 & 13 for 5 & 6 seems a no brainer.

Honest question - is there any indication Essendon are willing to trade 5 and 6 for 2 and 13, or is it mere speculation from our end?

Up until today, it had basically been speculation on here - nothing in the media

But it was floated today by Cal Twomey on Gettable -more as a thought bubble than actual intel to be fair though. Not sure how much he just pulls some of these things out of thin air but it has now been raised somewhere more credible than this board

He doesnt know much about the non vic teams in general, his views about most teams are a bit off imo but he seems to know about the draftees for the most part(mainly the vic ones, hes very vic focused)
Probably just reads Bigfooty draft forums. That said, Hi mate.

We can always help them out further by pushing the picks back and bidding on a handful of Uwland, Patterson and Annable but would we do it?

I expect pick two will be used for bids.

If CDT is still on the table at Richmond's picks, no chance of him not being picked.

Really would like that 6th list spot to take away the stress of sitting through the back end of the draft hoping a bid doesn’t come for Banfield and Evans

After our first three picks -
• Match a probable Williams bid or decline and take a 4th selection instead
• Match a bid on Evans or Banfield if one comes

As it stands if we match a bid for one of Evans or Banfield we won’t be able to match a bid on the other. With an extra list spot we’d be able to match both should they come

It’s been said by Rosa their list boss that they will look to trade up. Most assumed for pick 1 and Duursma but I believe Rosa has said he’s contacted both the Eagles and Tigers so that would suggest they have interest in CDT or Robey or maybe even both.

The 2 + 13 for 5 and 6 was floated on Gettable today as what Cal would offer if he was Essendon (he is a mad Dons fan). They also said no offer has been put forward by Essendon at this stage.

Herald Sun reported last week that the Dons are obsessed with CDT and will likely make a play.

The other rumour of 2 for 5 + 15 would be an interesting option if we don’t rate our NGA/FS, While I’d take Williams and Evans ect. Cal said Dovaston could be there at the Suns pick 15 for who ever gets it. The draft haul could be
1- Duursma
5-Sharp/Cumming
13- Farrow
15- Dovaston
Would cover some needs.

Like I said we've been trying to rebuild the midfield with backmen( hough, ginbey and likely bo. )
And late picks ( gross,Davis)
Not sure we've stifled their development as much as they aren't as ready as a top draft pick mayb be or someone whose actually used to playing in the midfield
So you were saying it's the talent, not the development. Gotchya.
To be honest I think it is a bit of both. Our development pathway is the Beagles so it has been very difficult to get good development into players in the lower tier. Especially the midfield, we have to either develop them in a team that is half made up of ammo players who struggle to hit a target or we are playing 1st and 2nd year players in the guts in the AFL with precious little support in a team that won a single game last year.

If we keep pick 13 and on the board is Farrow ,Dovaston and Barker.
I'm probably going Barker ,yeah probably won't play much in his first season coming off ACL but so much upside and has all the tools to be an A grader.

Dovaston would be my 2nd choice proven goal sneak in the fwd line.
Yes we have a few but they look very vanilla.
Dovaston has a bit of the Wizard about him.

Not really keen on Farrow to be honest

Do you guys see a better player still sitting there for us ?

Not sure about that, he'll be ready to play seniors straight away.

On CDT - The same people that say he’s a development ruck and that’s the reason he won’t be plug and play are the same people that say he’s not a ruck at all due to his unproven hitout work

Sharp haters aren’t going to watch it. Save your breath.
I don't hate or laud any of the kids, but highlight packages are not supposed to show weaknesses in games. You could even find highlights of Priddis showing him burst from congestion and hit a target. They are so flawed when being used to assess talent.

He is 100% what we need.A proper first release midfielder who has great hands. He only needs to be able to create for Harley, Hewett and heck even Kelly to be able to take the ball on the run going forward.. he seems to be one of those guys people look at what they think he can’t do well rather than what he seems to do very well.

Sorry if this is a re-post, Sausage Gossage had CDT on the show this morning

Speaks very well as many of the draftees seem to do these days.

Can “play down back too”. Now that would be one hell of a plot twist if he becomes the key defender we’ve been craving…
