If someone just takes the short 20m kick every time, thats technically effective but its far from elite

Elite implies an ability to get the hard kicks right too
I honestly don’t think you’ve watched Sharps highlights!
Brisbane Criss crossed the ground using short kicks. Ran teams into the ground! Worked for them. Possession is nine tenths of the law!

With the addition of Starcevich and Young, it’s quite a challenge to name our starting back 6, the pressure will be seriously on for starting positions, flankers, back pockets include, Ginbey, Hough, McCarthy, Duggan, Cole, Starcevich, Baker, Maric.
It’s great to see.
Ginbey, Hough, starcevich and yeo/mccarthy swapping on the ball. Assuming yeo plays…

Baker to the forward line and pinch hitting all over the ground. Maric to a wing/hhf.

Duggan and Cole emergencies. Well…that’s how I see it anyway, but you are right there will be more competition for spots. You can also can add in dewar/allan as other hb flanker options

Essendon F1 is worth more than your pick 2 alone. They'll end bottom 4 next year and next years draft is way better. Not a chance in the world of that happening.
Yeah but word is they are desperate for CDT. So we will see how desperate. And they might think their future 1st will be well above a bottom 4 pick.

Bird in the hand though. Dons could make the big dance now they have a wildcard round 😂.

Future picks are always worth less as you have to wait for them.
Stop with the comedy. Dons list is crap and for half the year they have 3 players recovering from ACL's. Even with a good run they're not getting out of the bottom 6.

Picks next year are worth more than this year. Every club is trying to get hold of future first round picks. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but it is considered that next years early picks are miles better than this year. A player like Dougie Cochrane is held in the same Esteem as Harley Reid and there is another two or three considered way better than the first half a dozen this year..Clubs with likely early picks next year aren't trading them for picks this year.

Unrelated to this discussion but I only just noticed you're a Hawthorn fan, hypothetical situation for you:

Hawks on the board at 26 having selected Pou Jr. earlier, where's the first thought? I'd have said a defender, but with most of the good ones off the board and bids matched for Jai Murray and Harry Kyle, would you consider Avery Thomas as an 185cm elite lockdown and athlete? Room for improvement with his skills but you could always have Mass give him a workshop. Hawthorn fan from Launceston. Probably frees up one of the other vets in the backline to focus on distribution and not expend as much energy on the actual defending, if you are unable to get a Lindsay or something to actual take the reigns of said backline distributor

Jfc I didnt say Sharp only takes the short 20m kicks, its just an example of efficient vs elite kick

Cochrane is rated but not to the level of Harley. He might not be available in the open draft anyway.
Who are those other players you speak of, would you care to name them and stack them alongside this year's top 6?

Cochrane and Walker I’m of the opinion would both go number 1 this year. I’d probs have Duurs and CDT after those two, then Arki Butler for me rates ahead of Robey. Sharp and XT probably in the same sort of ranges right now as Van Dyke and Robinson but I haven’t watched too much of those two and being bottom agers they’ll probably rate ahead at the end of next year on current trajectory.

dreaming.
Essendon could easily land 9-10th ish.
Then add a couple academy picks and free agency in & your out to pick 13-14
You don't trade 2 for that type of risk, weak draft or not

I know a lot of people question sample size & quality of opposition (not playing Champs), but if we're picking on potential ceiling then to me the selection has to be Robey.

I see a guy who floats across the ground & through traffic beautifully, links up, is a great size, finds the pill, takes a good mark, & kicks goals.
His kicking is passable. Only thing I'm unsure of is his stoppage craft - can anyone enlighten in this regard?

Vs cdt I think Robey has as good a ceiling, & is more likely to hit it & less likely to bust than cdt, given questions re cdt's best position.

If it was any other team I'd agree. Luckily Essendon are the team who's actions have made it very clear they aren't ready to rebuild. They'll want to see improvement next year after keeping Merrett.

I think they are the only team stupid enough to consider giving us a potential top 5 pick next year, because they'll think they'll do better than everyone is expecting.

There is also the possibility we add a F2 (either ours or St Kilda's) to make it work.

Not saying the trade is in anyway a certainty, but it is a live option that I'm hoping for.

Its not even debatable.
Most of the top 8 dont have this style of player
Are you taking the piss or just trolling

Brisbane Dunkley neale
Pies long crisp
Cats danger atkins
Crows don't and that's why they got smashed at the contest in finals.
Gws green
Hawks newcombe
Suns Davies rowell
Freo serong Fyfe

I mean what planet are you on with this comment.

Missing one of Banfield or Evans because our lack of a sixth list spot meant we couldn’t match a bid
The only thing that makes sense is that they don't want to give some of the NGAs 2 year contracts. Maybe they're on the fence about them behaviorally and will only take a punt on a one year rookie contract. It has been alluded to that both Williams and Evans like to party. Maybe too much?

Go back and look at Elijah Hewett's Championship highlights.... He was taken at 14. Looked every bit as good as Cumming and Robey etc. if not better. After Duursma and CDT, the open pool looks pretty weak this year. We should not even consider trading pick 2 unless a F1 is included. People talking of trading 2 for 5 and 15 because the points match have NFI.
