Assume we finish 2nd last.

If he's not an NGA then last place takes Cochrane and we get the next best player.

However, now that he's NGA last place bids and Port take Cochrane.
Last place then chooses another player.

We have now missed out on the other player and choose the 3rd best player instead.

So yes it still impacts us (especially with Carlton having potential top 3 players as F/S).
Yeah you're right booooo AFL

Cody Walker the other one in early Pick 1 conversations.

Tied to Carlton.

Finish 15th next season and you might, might be able to take a Top 10 rated player in the draft.

The system works!

I don't get the Jagga Smith hype. Bloke is built like a twig and his body failed in his first pre-season. He's up against it to have a successful career.

What does he project to at best? A heavily outside high accumulator? Is that worth pick 3 in a strong draft? Duursma should at least be able to win his own ball.
Jagga Smith is Chris Masten 2.0

No issue with someone discovering/exploring their Aboriginal heritage later in life than others. That’s not the issue here.

The issue is the AFL have had to rezone the kid just to get him in, and he plays for what looks to be an Adelaide Crows aligned NGA team in Centrals.

How that equates to Port having access is beyond me. Farcical stuff.

Happy for anyone to explore their heritage etc.

But after reading what occurred (if reported correctly) the family wasn't interested in their heritage until they worked out it could help them play at Port.

So are they really interested and focused on their background......or is it just something that is now convenient if that helps Port land a top kid?

It looks dodgy. But that's how the AFL roll.....dodgy.

Dont mind dougie been a part of port nga however hes only been a part of the port academy since mid last year and the nga avaiblilty was only discovered recently should be that a player must be registered by a max by there 15th bday to be eligible. He was gonna be a gun footballerbregardless of the nga

Quite likely the location was incidental (ie Collingwood's was the easiest to do) - recruiters doesn't specify that it's only Pies ones.

This isn’t some special treatment. It’s where all draftees do their 2km. Even for the national combine.

Collingwood’s training oval is surrounded by an (3-lane) athletics track ala an Olympic Stadium (on Olympic Boulevard no less).

It’s the only club I’ve seen to have an athletics track and football field in one.

Hawks should be straight on the phone about Greeves

Yeah that's my complaint about this whole thing. The NGA system is intended for AFL clubs to invest in indigenous kids to develop as footballers, which is great! Allowing a club to ingest a kid who became a gun footballer outside their academy and then did some looking into his background to find that he was indigenous makes a mockery of the whole thing. Much like the academies, if things go too far in tilting the playing field and rorting the draft then you're going to end up with people agitating to shut down the NGA academies, which would be a shame.

Might be a tricky one. I know he played for Port Districts as a kid which that area sits in the Eagles zone but assuming he plays for Central Districts in the SANFL due to his dad playing for them. If there a father/son rule in state league zones?
