Serious question. Next year's draft, is there another mid we're going to be talking about taking as an absolute must pick like Sharp this year? And whoever else before that? And the draft before that?

And now let me ask, how many of those absolute musts from years gone by have gone on to burn us? I mean really, really burn us like missing out on Bontempelli or missing out on Petracca or one of St. Kilda's many other drafting failures?

In closing, at least we're not St. Kilda.

Everyone has different opinions, what limitations do you see that mean he won’t be taken until a pick in the 30s?
Mostly, because he has somewhat regressed since last year. Was top of the tree coming into this year, and hasn't gone on with it. I don't think he's overly quick which makes a difference for those top end mids. And I don't think he's all that great forward if that doesn't work out.

I get big Chesser/Brander vibes on "underperforming" top age players.

I can see someone jumping earlyish perhaps Adelaide at 16? but I expect he could be a "slider" especially with the shoulder & hope that we look somewhere else.

*2nd rounder without bids 20-40

He’s bloody quick, 2.95ish 20m sprint, he’d be the fastest top end mid apart from Grlj and kicked 3 goals in a SANFL league game. Which areas do you think he’s regressed in?

CDT doesn't just have to play Ruck or deep forward. He's a great runner with good ball use and contested ground ball ability

He's also not one of these skinny ruckman type that will take years to develop and build his body

He's thick through the hips and has powerful legs 😉 Think he plays year one without any drama.

I'm nearly 100 percent sure the Eagles will pick him.View attachment 2460675
Sounds like the AFL equivalent of Magic Johnson

A 2.95ish 20m is kind of average isn't it? With 2.8-2.9 being classed as fast. Grlj & Cumming seem more like they are good in traffic with a bit of acceleration rather than having breakneck speed.

League form doesn't mean much considering returns over a whole season. Champs was average, and U18s was good but not great. His main POD is overhead marking but that's somewhat redundant playing midfield these days.

Grlj is very outside as a player and not one i'm all that high on as a mid. Probably becomes a back flanker imo.

less than 3 seconds is pretty fast, 2.95 is top 10 areas pretty much every year
2022 and 2024 for example:

And when did we last have a good midfield?

Does anybody know Toddy's football background. All i know about him is that he was employed by West Coast 2 weeks before the AFL introduced the 20% salary cuts due to covid.
Apparently he's been there 11 years or so now

Most I can find on him (after a 30 second google search that is): Todd Nisbett joined the club as a junior under former head of football Craig Vozzo a decade ago, has risen up through the ranks and is rated highly by player agents.

We are talking about Cumming?

If he regressed this year he must have been amazing in 2024.

Played a very good championships, then seniors and then hurt his shoulder so missed some footy late.

Most phantoms and rankings have him top 10.

As much as I don't really rate him, I think we're going to draft CDT with pick 2 (if we keep it) because the recruiters will have FOMO of him blowing up and ending up one of the best players in the league 5 years down the track.

Alot of metrics and other clubs rate him.

CDT feels risky and even though we need a ruck good rucks don't normally go top 2.

Only time can tell who is right with CDT.

I'd feel a lot better about taking the risk on CDT if Duursma wasn't also a risk, if they both turn out to be duds then it will have completely stuffed the rebuild

I don't mind drafting him if we have a good football-related reason in doing so. The problem I see is that the things he is good at, there are others who are better. Drafting him at 1 or 2, you're putting a LOT of stock into him being able to put it all together.

Yeah I agree, I'm not saying I want to draft him at 2, I just think we will

At least with Duursma, he looks like he'll be a very good outside player. We drafted Gaff at 4 and he turned it to be a pretty handy player.
