The wild divergences of opinion on the likely candidates for Picks 1 and 2 worries me. I don't have an opinion because i haven't see any of the players mentioned. But if opinion is so divided then that means it would be easier/more possible for the club to make a mistake and waste a pick on another spud. We really need to nail this draft. We won't get another hand like this for a long time.

Every year: We lack elite talent!

Every year: We get top 3 picks, this year, two of the bastards!

Every year: How can we trade out of the top 3 to get multiple lesser picks?

Every year: Why the **** did we trade down and miss out on the top end talent!? The only elite young talent in the midfield is Harley, taken with Pick 1! Are we stupid!?

(Yes)
Because everyone recons the top midfield talent doesn't fall at 1 and 2. And quite frankly I have serious reservations that the 2 that have been anointed as the top 2 in talent, aren't.

I just had a look at Tom De Koning’s stats in the Coates talent league vs CDT’s
CDT takes the chocolates by a fair margin, in disposals, marks, hit outs.
I don’t buy this crap the CDT isn’t a ruckman, he is developing very nicely and if he end’s anywhere near as good as Tom De Koning, WC would be mad not to take him, in what is a position of dire need for our team, start him up forward and transition to ruck over time.

Do U actually rate TDK though !!

If we do not get a Cumming or Dovaston slide to 13 I hope we bid on Addinsall. Bloke averaged 32 disposals in the Coates League and 26 disposal 8 clearance game against GWS VFL. We could do with another accumulator and first distributor.
I've actually been wondering what the knock on Addinsall is. Any posters ITK (AsterixTheGaul CountryLad Eastcoasteagle etc) who could shed some light on why he isn't ranked above the likes of Farrow, NHH, Greeves, Poo #2 and others around that pick 13 mark?

Is there much reason to why on both the Richmond and Essendon board that they are frothing at getting Robey and hoping Eagles pick CDT at 2?

Surely there is substance to that?

I wonder if Essendon are into Robey and want to get ahead of Tigers. If it’s CDT they’re into I reckon they just call our bluff and hope he slides. Considering Tigers are unlikely to draft him due to who they took last year and he would be a risky pick for us, they might still get him at 5. Less chance Robey gets past Tigers IMO.

If we trade 2&13 for 5&6

1. Duurs WC
2. Robey Ess
3. Grlj Ric
4. Taylor Ric
5. CDT WC
6. Sharp WC

Would be happy to take CDT with Duurs and Sharp but not if we don’t get Sharp as well.
I agree. I think we should try and move pick 2 back so we get 3 selections before Melbourne. Take Duursma with pick 1 and aim to get 2 of Sharp/Cumming/CDT. I can live with CDT if we take two mids (Duursma and Sharp/Cumming).

I think he is good but I have him with a lower ceiling. I still see him as a 20-30 pick. Others are in my 15 to 20 range

How come some are not that excited about this guy? Some of that kicking is elite, he cracks in when he has to, looks to have pace and a great step....and looks like can play pretty much anywhere
It might be because we are seen as almost a certainty to pick Duursma that people are turning their attention to pick 2.

I agree he will be a beauty for us. I think the 'utility ' description is also making people wary but Harley was described as one as well.

Not saying he is as good as Harley, just that he similarly has a very good ability to play on any line.

There are the three well known facts we need to recognise:
1) Both CDT & family and Robey & family are Essendon supporters. Duursma has linked to his brother in Essendon.
2) The top 4 talent draftees available (to the Eagles) are of better distinct quality than the rest. (Duursma, CDT and Robey are three of them)
3) So far no club has expressed interest in getting our top 2 picks and the Eagles are not interested in selling any of these two top picks (unless ...???)

TDK is honestly a pretty low bar for a ruck. Saints are insane.

What if we keep 1,2,13. If we are then picking at 34 and williams and banfield still havent been bid on, what do we do then? Do we have the list spots or is it a choice of picking someone at 34 and missing one of those two?
If it comes to pick 34 and we haven't used it to match a bid, we could live trade it to another team who has their eye on a player that's still available.

TDK is honestly a pretty low bar for a ruck. Saints are insane.
For players that had played over 10 games in 2025, TDK was ranked 19th in average hitouts. Just below Flynn in 18th. He obviously has a lot more complimentary skills, but that's a long way down the list for a "superstar" ruckman.

Also, he was a pick 30, so he was a very different cost to CDT. I'm note sure I'm a fan of the comparison either.

lol, well known facts 🙄…Did you not hear Essendon multiple times during trade week say they have made direct contact with West Coast in relation to pick 1/2 and Richmond pick 3?

"We've let West Coast and Richmond know that we'd be keen to explore moving up," Essendon list boss Matt Rosa told AFL.com.au's Gettable Trade Radio on Tuesday.

Really? I’d want far greater output from a pick 1 or 2 than TDK…

Barring a deux ex machina occurrence the reality is WCE are finishing bottom 3 in 2026.

Cannot afford to have another 1 win season but frankly we need another influx of high end talent in 2026 before Tazzy concessions kick in.

5 wins and pick 2 next year i could live with. Let 9nthmond have a turn with the coveted spoon.

As a person not involving in the Eagles administration, I choose to ignore rumours (from the media)and pay more attention to what the Eagles' official announcement.
Whether you choose to believe what M Clarke said is up to you.

Most likely outcome come draft night imo

1. Duursma
2. CDT

Trade with Carlton for pick 9

9. Farrow
Match:T.Williams
Match: Banfield
K.Evans

We take the general consensus best available with pick (1 & 2) The club probably wants to pair CDT with Archer long-term.

The trade with Carlton seems like a pretty straight forward one and allows us to secure Farrow who apparently we're keen on. Half back with midfield potential, how could we not pick him.

Like most I'm keen on trading 2+13 for 5+6 to get Cumming and Sharp but i don't think it will happen.

Clarke has said:
  • There is a fair bit of interest (picks 1 & 2)
  • No offers have been made

If i were to trust what Clarke has said, i'd be assuming conversations have been had, but no formal offers have been recieved yet.

I think Melbourne deserve the spoon and actually want it. It will be interesting to see what the bookies think at the start of next season. But i think they will be favourites.

if we had done what they just did everybody would be accusing us of tanking and demanding a draft lottery.
