1 Cat A.

2 Cat As if we don’t take 2 players in the national draft tonight.
So they way this draft is panning out we would be very confident that Banfield ad Evans get through to rookie picks.
Williams is the only player we have to likely match and most likely at 34 or later.
I would trade the pick 29 into 2026.

Then see if Williams gets past 34 and trade down if he is still there as we can match any bid after 36 with our next pick. which we can trade back in a 4th round to cover the list spot.
We would have a very good idea of where clubs are chasing Williams and 34 if not we can trade that down for a 3rd and F3rd.

Seemingly no link to Curtin for a very long time and no real targets left that we rate maybe.
I would leave a spot open on the rookie list for Curtin or S Ainsworth as KPD rookie spots with upside, pick 1 in the rookie list fills a need.

I am also not wanting Greeves under any situation. Does not run hard defensively. His knock knees will be shown up at the next level in speed and running capacity.

mr bean whatever GIF

Greeves is AA ruck rover, VIC metro MVP, basketball background headband wearing flog.

We simply have to have him.

More for the melts than anything else.

Why would we overlook a better talent for a lesser talent?
They might not, they might value one or both of them in the top 40 but if you don’t have to use that pick to get them why would you?

They also might value them in the same tier as the player they will get with the pick but can match the NGA/FS for free but also trade for a future pick instead.

NGA/FS situations ain’t as simple and 1 vs 1 it can be a case of 2 players vs 1 especially when they get past pick 40

Disagree on this list being better than our club tied - I am taking Banfield before all bar BOB.

Yeah I agree on Banfield I think the back end of his season was really strong, I think there’s a solid role player there at AFL level.

So which one of the three picks we’ve already used in this draft will be the prolific ball winning midfielder we need that can help Harley in winning some bloody clearances?

Duursma

Maybe not next year but he's going to be a beast.

There's a reason there was no discussion on Pick 1, it was all about what we'll do with Pick 2.

am very happy with our draft but its hard to pretend that we havent mis-managd it all a bit.

i mean theoretically we had pick 1 and 2, hakws first, end of 1r, and first pick of rnd 2.
ala 1,2,17,23,24 (post compo)

frustrating that we had hawks pick and not carltons.

some how from the above picks we have lost ryan, a FF3 and ended up with stracevich, 1, 2 and 12.
and it is a very fair call that this could have been achieved with a patterson bid @3.
all in all it doesnt look great on clarke.

then the whole list space debacle going into tonight is just bleh.

again, im more then happy with who we have taken, but i think we may have done it all a bit harder then we should have.

to top it off, we gave those prick hawks a stronger hand next year.

i dont think its unreasoble to suggest the list management team may be out of thier scope in this role.

A small clarification to your post - part of the Starcevich trade was getting back what became picks 34 and 53 and have since become pick 29 and the Bulldogs F4

Doesn’t change your main point that we’ve effectively given Ryan away for free but my OCD kicked in

Bottom line, no matter what, we’ve got on our list:

- the best player in the draft and a key midfield building block

- a ruck/forward unicorn who could be anything. The best tall in the draft.

- the best kick in the draft. I agree, we’ve really missed having a Hurn/Jetta type kicker to really open up the play. Hopefully that can be Lindsay in time.

All 3 are important list additions and building blocks across all 3 levels of the ground.

None but Robertson, Macrae and Shoenberg will provide more than any draftee in this crop could over the next couple of years.

Complete and utter bullshit that the Suns were able to trade three first round picks for Petracca and still hoover up 4 players in the top 20. Imagine the luxury going in knowing exactly what your draft/points scenario is going in while every other team is having to play Russian roulette with the likes of us getting our clocks cleaned after miscalculating their points stockpile. We were robbed of Uwland and the likes of Addinssall or Sharp who would have been there at 13 if the AFL wasn't such a joke of a competition. I just hope Duusma, CDT and Lindsay surpass Duursma, Uwland and Sharp/Addinsall is all can say.

Now people are saying it was a mistake only having 5 list spots available, but the club clearly stated that they would not take too many picks as they already had a long list of youth, they made this more clear by selecting Robertson, McRae and Schoenberg and informing our NGA's they would only be taken if places available.
I think you will find those 3 mature recruits will be vying for 1 maybe 2 spots in the AFL team, in all likely hood one or two of them will only see out the season.

It is what it is.

The hope next year is that all the kids improve 20% with an extra preseason. Dev adds some real size and muscle at the contest, and fingers, toes and anything else crossed that Yeo can play 15 games.

Besides Sharp there wasn't really a contested beast to be had, and he fell in the wrong spot for us to realistically get.

So three delisted players that werent good enough to stay at other clubs, are gonna come in and be the bbwimf that we need? I love your optimism but I don’t see it.

So which of the new draftees would you expect to be 'winning clearances' and 'getting the ball to Harley' next year?

Going to miss tonight due to a dinner.

But fully expecting us to trade into 2026 with pick 29, then wait for bids on our players. Keep trading back and into the future until we have to match.

Not expecting us to take any other players left on the board.
Pretty much what I'm expecting also.
